Which dress to black tie

Just realised the work event I have next week is black tie. It's being hosted by one of our suppliers so no customers there not that it makes a difference.

So which dress shall I wear
Orange - love the swish of this one but bought it 7/8 years ago pre child no3 so they'd more cleavage out than before and I feel a little exposed.

Red dress has pockets the zip is stiff though so worried it will go.

Black dress nice enough but a bit bland could do with a brighter contrast for the white lining

Red, it’s gorgeous!

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/03/2022 06:22

Wow thank you everyone! Bit of a mixed bag so I'll take both the red & black and decide on the night.

I do need a new pair of event shoes my foot is fucked started twisting inwards last pregnancy and I really struggle with any type of heel, I've also helpfully for a weird size 7.5 so any help on that front would be appreciated!

Defo the middle option :)

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/03/2022 08:01

So I have these shoes ignore the mess just getting ready for work & school

Or I buy a new pair which I'm reluctant to as I wear heels probably less than once a year although I expect I've start getting lots of work events.

Or these all are £££ though for such little wear! It's so hard to find 7.5 size shoes in style I like!

Try those shoes on with the black dress and put on a necklace or bracelet or something, i bet it looks nice.

You look nice in all three, but for a work event i would wear the black.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/03/2022 08:52

Black, with bright shoes.

PegasusReturns · 25/03/2022 09:48

Definitely black.

The orange is to exposing for a work event and and I don’t like the style of the red- it looks a bit old fashioned.

Black is perfect for a work event: elegant and sophisticated.

LadyEloise1 · 25/03/2022 10:03

I personally don't like ankle strap sandals. They appear to shorten ones legs - mine are short enough Smile
I would wear a court shoe -silver would be nice. Or a bright colour, or black with a bit of bling on them.
A fuschia Manolo dupe ?

MinglingFlamingo · 25/03/2022 10:07

Love the red dress then the black one.

Iwonder08 · 25/03/2022 10:21

I think red dress is gorgeous but not appropriate for a work event. I would go for black with some bright accessories and shoes

KosherDill · 25/03/2022 10:31

For work related, the black. You don't want to emphasize sexiness among professional colleagues.

sparklefarts · 25/03/2022 10:49

Orange - no

Red - I like it but a bit dated and bridemaidseh

Black - perfect for a work event. Just get some bright or sparkly accessories Matthew I think the black shoes you posted will go

sparklefarts · 25/03/2022 10:51

No idea how one word changed to Matthew!

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 25/03/2022 10:51

The black or the red one. The black one is simple and classy. The red very elegant with a touch of sexiness to it. I'm sorry, but I don't think the orange one is very flattering at all and looks quite out of date

Rosebuud · 25/03/2022 10:52

Black it’s the most flattering on you.

LadyEloise1 · 25/03/2022 10:52

What colour is the "lining" of the black dress ?
I would get shoes in that colour and put fake tan on my legs.

MindBodyChocolate · 25/03/2022 10:53

You look great in the black one. The red one is a bit old fashioned IMO and if you’re worried about the zip you won’t be able to relax and enjoy yourself. Have a good evening.

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/03/2022 13:38

So looks like black is becoming the winner 🏆

It has a white lining although in places (not where it shows) it's quite dirty. It's helpful dry clean only and they didn't get the marks out so I wanted it and some have come out. Although it doesn't really matter if they can't be seen.

I might go take a look at the Clarks outlet near me and see if they have any nice shoes.

I'll post a photo of it all pulled together later.

Another vote for black. The red is a bit too like a bridesmaids dress.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 25/03/2022 14:29

I think you have made the right choice going with the black. I'm not normally a fan of black dresses but the white lining lifts it and it's a lovely shape on you.

I agree the red is lovely but I think it's a little dated. If you have daughters, hang onto it. By the time they are ready for posh frocks it might be retro-chic.

ArtVandalay · 25/03/2022 14:30

Red number 3. Other 2 are on the unflattering side.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 25/03/2022 14:33

Definitely black dress. I’d wear white shoes to go with the white lining.

notacooldad · 25/03/2022 14:35

Black.
I dont like the red one.
The orange one is nice.

timeforteaforyouandme · 25/03/2022 14:49

Just to say am loving that you posted photos - so many posts are just links which are quite boring
I liked red but black also good
