What trainers are fashionable these days?

I'm in my 30's and not stylish at all but trying to improve. What trainers should I buy to wear with jeans, dresses etc? I'm buying some cheap black and white fake converse type trainers from Next (Yours brand) but was wondering whether to get a white pair too. Not too fussed about brands but don't want to look ridiculous or unstylish but also don't want to dress too "young". Am clueless. Any ideas?

Probably Veja.

Depends what you like though.

I got some lovely pastel AF1s (which I love!) But then again I splashed out on Karl Lagerfelds which I also love and have Stan Smiths etc.

White trainers are so bloody overdone tho. It is just dull. I wear loafers in different colours. I also have a pair of burgundy trainers. Wear what makes you happy.

Gonnagetgoing · 24/03/2022 10:40

Also depends what's comfy. Some find AF1 not comfy.

I'm not keen on Air Max but have got a fake pair of these in white.

LittleGwyneth · 24/03/2022 11:17

Chunkier is more on trend, so I'd suggest looking at something with some heft. I was surprised to find that Sketchers had some great ones. Otherwise there's always Vejas of course.

I agree, who cares about being stylish?

Wear what you like rather than what other people say you should be wearing!

mumonthehill · 24/03/2022 11:30

I bought silver new balance trainers recently, not sure they are that flattering but they are comfortable and make me smile!!

evilharpy · 24/03/2022 11:33

The board is called "style and beauty". People who post here tend to be interested in being stylish/vaguely keeping track of what's fashionable at the moment. The OP herself says "I'm not stylish at all but trying to improve". There's nothing wrong with that.

OP, I've posted about these before but I have these from Puma that I really like, and find them very comfortable.

My3cents1 · 24/03/2022 11:35

Bloody expensive but my choice is Common Projects. I hate clothes and shoes that make me look like a walking advertisement.

astoundedgoat · 24/03/2022 11:40

Well the OP specifically asked about what trainers are stylish right now. She didn't say "should I bother having stylish trainers?"

I have Vejas, but I don't find them especially comfy.

I agree that a bit more heft and colour make a nice change these days - these ones keep coming up in my ads but are crazy expensive:

I like these a lot though:

(You can see that I mostly like the colours there!)

Lots of pastels going around - all the current Vejas have pastel trim, not bold, but these are gorgeous and also cheap! I'm quite tempted, but I don't need them;

Love these too, but high tops are trickier - www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,20/4569016930

What kind of clothes do you wear?

DoucheCanoe · 24/03/2022 11:49

But my point is people don't need to"improve" themselves by following a certain trend.

Style is supposed to be fun - an individual thing to match your personality and lifestyle.

Chunky trainers might be "in" but I'd be uncomfortable and look ridiculous in them too, what works for one doesn't automatically fit for others.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 24/03/2022 11:51

I've recently seen a lot of people wearing Hoff.

Mindtheears · 24/03/2022 11:54

I have some Vejas but (and no idea if they are trendy or not) I was looking at Gola yesterday and thought they were at least as nice and way cheaper

Mindtheears · 24/03/2022 11:55

I think Anthropologie sell Hoff

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/03/2022 12:15

You can save yourself pounds by buying cheap white plimsolls and then drawing on whatever is the most fashionable / popular logo.

Jellybel · 24/03/2022 12:25

Thanks everyone. Completely agree that you should wear what makes you happy and not what everyone thinks you should wear. I guess I'm just a funny one in that I'm extremely indecisive and have no clue about what looks good or how to dress myself. I suppose I just want to look well put together....not necessarily bang on trend. I just find that I buy things that I like or make me happy and then find they look lovely on their own but don't match anything else I own. But I guess that's a whole different thread

See, I think Vejas look crap (and cheap). I’ve seen loads of customers wearing them recently but I don’t get the hype. I love AF1 and I’m currently wearing purple suede Vans with the jelly stripe.

RockaLock · 24/03/2022 12:35

I have a lovely pair from Hoff.

It's a bit weird looking down at my feet and seeing coloured trainers, not white, but I really like them! And they are very comfortable.

I love these ones. What's the sizing like?
teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/03/2022 13:47

I love converse in all different ways. Yesterday I wore glittery low tops, days before zig zag high tops. I like some white studded ones I saw. Also after a pair of adidas superstars

RockaLock · 24/03/2022 13:59

@evilharpy , I am a UK 6 and the 39 is perfect.

I think mine are the "London" style, which are in their sale.

evilharpy · 24/03/2022 14:02

Thanks @RockaLock, I'll take a look. Payday is tomorrow Grin

RockaLock · 24/03/2022 14:06

I would say though, that as mine were in the sale, they were cheap enough not to attract import VAT.

I'm not sure whether a full price pair would tip you over into having to pay it or not, but it's something to bear in mind.

ParanoidGynodroid · 24/03/2022 15:38

I still have not gotten over my love of AF1's.
So comfy, go with anything, and they make my feet look cuddly.

EllaPaella · 24/03/2022 16:01

I have Hoff trainers and absolutely love them, they are so so comfy. Anyone wondering about sizing they are true to size imo and good for wide feet.
