What trainers are fashionable these days?

I'm in my 30's and not stylish at all but trying to improve. What trainers should I buy to wear with jeans, dresses etc? I'm buying some cheap black and white fake converse type trainers from Next (Yours brand) but was wondering whether to get a white pair too. Not too fussed about brands but don't want to look ridiculous or unstylish but also don't want to dress too "young". Am clueless. Any ideas?

I've suddenly found myself with 5 pairs of Nike Air Max. I don't have any particular attachment to the brand, it's just that they fit me and are super comfortable!

WeirdArchitecture · 27/03/2022 12:23

I don't know if it's just me, but i am sick of the sight of trainers lately. Like it reached peak trainer and now im all trainered out Grin

I just want a new alternative but am also sick of sandals with Frankenstein chunky soles or such uncomfortable flat soles that you might as well strap a piece of plywood to the base of your foot.

WeirdArchitecture · 27/03/2022 12:29

and i want the alternative to be comfortable so im asking for a lot i know.

ISmellBurnings · 27/03/2022 14:21

I know what you mean @WeirdArchitecture. I love my trainers but really don’t want to go back to sandals or flats which have no support and feel like I might as well be walking on the concrete. I can also run after the kids in trainers.

IndoorsyImogen · 27/03/2022 15:39

Don't anybody call the trainer trend over for the love of God and my arches Grin

I have just got a pair of multicoloured trainers in a Lookiero box and I really like them. I also so a woman in a midi skirt and dusky pink dad trainers yesterday and thought she looked great.

I do have some "basic", flatform white trainers by adidas. They are a done to death look I know, but they do go with a lot of stuff, so I'm loathe to get rid of them yet.

No idea what the next big thing will be with trainers or if we might shift back to something else. I love them in summer. Not a fan of sandals (although I have some ugly Tevas for hot days) or ballet flats or anything. Watching this with interest!

I think Vejas are a bit overdone now. 3 years ago they were more fashionable.

New Balance are good. I have a few paid that I love and wear lots

You basically need to find random unheard of brands
I’ve just got a bright pair by an Italian company called Sun68. I love them. Very comfy too.

IndoorsyImogen · 27/03/2022 16:04

My new ones are from a brand called Hoff. Not sure if that's a fashionable brand, but I really like the trainers. They're quite colourful

VeggieTables · 27/03/2022 21:03

Not sure if they're particularly trendy or stylish, but i quite like Onitsuka trainers

ISmellBurnings · 27/03/2022 21:22

Ooh I like the Sun68 trainers!

Delatron · 27/03/2022 21:34

They’re great @ISmellBurnings
I have a bright pink pair!!

Gonnagetgoing · 27/03/2022 21:38

Gonnagetgoing · 27/03/2022 21:39

I don’t like Vejas. My new pastel colours AF1s are nice.

ISmellBurnings · 27/03/2022 21:46

@Delatron where did you buy them?

DJSteves · 27/03/2022 21:47

I wear gold AF1 Adidas Sambarose and leopard print Nike TN's. Veja's would not be seen on my cold dead feet. And I'm mid 40's

iCod · 27/03/2022 21:48

New balance 327

Shmithecat2 · 27/03/2022 21:48

I like Adidas Superstars and Stan Smiths.

Delatron · 27/03/2022 21:48

@ISmellBurnings in Italy but I do think you can get them online here as I investigated. My DH bought them. A good present!

lettherainfalldown · 27/03/2022 22:20

Vans are a good option if you want a comfy and classic trainer. Certainly not too young and def not as dated as Veja. Hailey Bieber wears a good selection of hi tops and the old skool ones so lots of style inspo there for how she wears dresses / jeans etc with them!

LightOfAThousandStars · 28/03/2022 23:01

Stan Smiths, very comfortable and go with everything

Rainbowshit · 28/03/2022 23:07

AF1s are for kids IMHO. Don't think they look right on adults.

BookkeeperBobby · 28/03/2022 23:15

Ooh I've just looked up the future riders and you are right they are very similar to hoffs but half the price.

I also love my gazelles as it goes. Apart from them being a classic they just fit my feet really well. I've never found converse or Vans comfortable at all although I did used to wear them regardless. Even the platform converse I just can't get on with although they look great.

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 28/03/2022 23:23

I really dislike AF1's and Vans. I associate them more with younger college kids and their fashion which is kind of frumpy. They're too chunky looking and I can't unsee them with joggers and crop tops. That seems to be the staple outfit I see paired with them.

I have a few pairs of Stan Smith's - they're not ground breaking, but they're comfy as hell. I wouldn't say Veja's are out dated by any means. They're just common now. But still very on trend.

I also like the retro looking Reebok & New Balance ones. They come in some fun colour combos.

Then there's the lesser known brands - I really like the Woden brand. They've got some really nice looking ones, and at reasonable prices. I love these - very neutral, and would go with everything. www.flannels.com/woden-nora-iii-leather-trainers-239624#colcode=23962427

I second Woden, the most comfortable shoe straight out the box I've ever had.
