What trainers are fashionable these days?

I'm in my 30's and not stylish at all but trying to improve. What trainers should I buy to wear with jeans, dresses etc? I'm buying some cheap black and white fake converse type trainers from Next (Yours brand) but was wondering whether to get a white pair too. Not too fussed about brands but don't want to look ridiculous or unstylish but also don't want to dress too "young". Am clueless. Any ideas?

Mine are Hoff Java

ISmellBurnings · 24/03/2022 16:56

I love my New Balance trainers!

Sickoffamilydrama · 24/03/2022 16:57

How comfy are these high tops?

I keep thinking of getting some high tops but like a supportive sole not thin like some are.

MamaNeedsTea · 25/03/2022 07:13

I'm 30s & have some Sophia Webster "Swalk" trainers.

I don't wear trainers that often, but love these & wear with long coat etc for school run. I feels like they're snazzy but go with everything. They're also made out of recycled materials.

LondonQueen · 25/03/2022 07:24

Can't go wrong with white AF1's.

Who cares about being stylish?
Well most people on this board since it's Style and Beauty?

ParanoidGynodroid · 25/03/2022 07:32

@LondonQueen I got my AF1s sort of by accident, but then fell in love. But when I was out and about I couldn't believe the ubiquity of them! All sorts of AFs and all sorts of other trainers that were trying to look like them. Had a trip to London last July (I'm a country bumpkin) and as I sat eating my lunch by Camden Lock I noticed approx 80% of all people wore trainers (most of the rest sandals), and the most common trainer was an AF1.

So yes, I'd say they certainly fit OPs remit of being "fashionable"!

converseandjeans · 25/03/2022 07:33

I think if you like converse style then get proper converse rather than the cheap alternative. It's false economy to buy cheap ones.

I like superga as an alternative to converse.

I have some Adidas superstar. I also fancy some Veja.

intwrferingma · 25/03/2022 07:35

I found the one pair of Vejas I bought the single most uncomfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn. I don't get the love. Air and grace all the way.

RussianSpy101 · 25/03/2022 07:36

New balance!!

NandorTheRelentlessCleaner · 25/03/2022 07:44

I think Vejas are worn mainly by the 40+ crowd

They are "safe" rather than "fashion"

At 30 you are def still young though and can't really dress too young iyswim

Try some on and see what you like? Old school style, in the shops?

elbea · 25/03/2022 07:52

I’m a similar age and wear Vans with my dresses, I feel like they are pretty timeless so won’t go out of fashion like the clumpy one will.

jay55 · 25/03/2022 07:56

All the 'classics' are back at the main sports brands and go with the 70s and 90s fashions that have come back.

Those Hoff ones are very much classic puma in style without the swoosh.

I see lots of trendysomethings on the tube wearing old reeboks, which they may have liberated from their mums.

I'm totally off trend this spring with bright adidas ultra boosts, though I did grab some Stella ones in the sale made of ocean plastic so on message if not on trend.

Cakecakeandcake · 25/03/2022 08:07

I work for a well known shoe retailer, we sell a lot of converse, puma are big just now as well as fila.

ittakes2 · 25/03/2022 08:26

I like the Clark trainers they do them with wide foot options and zips which is really helpful for the school run in the morning because we are always running late.

doobyscoob · 25/03/2022 18:26

I know you're not brand focussed but Next own brand trainers aren't going to make you look fashion conscious. Sorry

Buy some real converse. The chunky sole ones are cool

KateMcAllister · 25/03/2022 18:29

I have bright pink and white high Nike dunks. Really comfy and they brighten up my day to have bright pink on my feet. Find white trainers really boring now.

Libertaire · 25/03/2022 18:33

Adidas classic styles will never go out of fashion, eg Samba, Beckenbauer, Spezial, Gazelle.

Babymamamama · 25/03/2022 18:40

I’m sporting Puma Future Riders. Lots of lovely colour combos and cheaper than Hoffs but similar profile. Very very comfy. I may invest in a second pair. Not seen anyone else my age wearing them yet but they are getting popular amongst the 12 year old cohort. If it’s good enough for them… Grin

Loudhousefun · 25/03/2022 20:55

Vans look good with ever and very comfortable, I have both black and white.

Loudhousefun · 25/03/2022 20:55

Everything

lugeforlife · 26/03/2022 07:33

I have and always will love an old skool adidas - gazelles and superstars especially.

I feel similar re pumas. I have 6th form flash backs and I don't bloody care that I wore them first time round. DH is the same - 52 and you touch his gazelles at your peril.

I love those Hoff trainers but ironically I want something plain this year.

abc4321 · 26/03/2022 16:58

I love my Gazelles.

But egged on by my teenagers, I've just bought a pair of mid-top Air Jordan's. In muted greys so I feel a little less mutton dressed as lamb.

They're actually really comfortable but have that stupid thing where Nike only sell one or two colours at a time so you have to scour resellers.

Rainbowshit · 26/03/2022 21:42

I love my new balance 327s

Callmecordelia · 27/03/2022 09:06

I love my new balance trainers. So comfortable and I think they are stylish.
