Short hair but not sensible!

I'm considering going short, but struggling to find ideas that don't look 'sensible'.
What short haircuts are fun and not too ageing?
I've spent time on Pinterest but I struggle seeing hair separate from made up models!

I have fine hair and glasses, I don't want to age myself, kids are doing it for me anyway Confused.

Look up Audrey Tatou; Ginnifer Goodwin and Winona Ryder for gamine hairstyles on dark hair. None of them look frumpy.

@LittleGwyneth

Honestly cutting your hair off will age you, and you will have to style it properly every single day. If you want to do something which looks modern then a one length mid-neck bob is probably your best best, but honestly I'd just tie it up.
That’s not true at all unless she’s planing on a blue rinse shampoo and set! If anything long hair can be ageing if the wrong still and colour for your complexion
ChristopherTracy · 23/03/2022 18:01

Trouble is all of the examples used in this thread are on very pretty women. I have a very mannish face - if I went for one of these styles I worry I would look awful, plus my hair is so frizzy.

evilharpy · 23/03/2022 18:05

Oh how I wish I looked like this with short hair. But I don't. I looked more like a budget Helen Shapiro when I chopped mine off, and started growing it back immediately.

@PixiePlease, not sure I'd be brave enough to share a photo plus I have Covid so hair styling is not my priority today Wink

I have blond highlights in mine as I feel my hair needs some colour 'ooomph'

Go for it, I'd say

In my opinion nothing ages a woman MORE than a one length bob!
evilharpy · 23/03/2022 18:46

Oh dear - I have a one length bob Blush

It's blunt though, not a mushroom cut.

Far from it. There's nothing more aging than shoulder length, or longer, hair just hanging there around a middle aged face. It just....hangs.

Utter rubbish! I have short hair and people always think I am years younger than I am. As for having to style it properly every single day??? I never style it, I literally get up and go.

Coffeepot72 · 23/03/2022 19:04

Be careful - I posted at length last year, my edgy modern short cut made me look like Nicola Sturgeon.

StCharlotte · 23/03/2022 19:06

I've just had this cut but with a fringe. I think I stole it off someone on here Grin

Very easy to look after.

I wear glasses and my favourite ever haircut was a copy of this - the woman from Tron Legacy. Definitely not frumpy. Looks good with glasses. Have long hair at the moment but might go back to this some time

Fedupsotired · 23/03/2022 19:10

I think the ageing thing depends on your age. I think when you are younger it can age you and when you are older it can make you look younger 🤣

SmallestInTheClass · 23/03/2022 19:10

Another Vicky McClure style short crop here. Love it and don't think it ages me. Better than the long, witches hair look which I think can be ageing on older women, especially when it's dyed very dark or all over blonde. My short cut might age me more than a bob, but it's a more interesting and individual look and I think it suits me.

DetailMouse · 23/03/2022 19:11

Imo the single length mid length bob is the single most aging haircut in existence.

I have fine hair that just looks lank long. I love my very short pixie. Maybe it is aging and I probably do need earrings but I still love it. my ears closed up when I took out the earrings because of babies pulling on them 21 years ago FWiW I do think overly coiffed short haircuts are aging.

Love this but worry I’d end up like Fleabag’s sister Grin
MrsMigginsCat · 23/03/2022 22:06

I have a stacked bob. In a mad moment a couple of weeks ago I decided to have some blue highlights put in around the sides towards the front. It's turned what could be considered a slightly boring cut into something a bit more funky. I love it. I'm not far off 50 and have fine hair which is a pain when it gets longer.

I’m getting this cut soon, too!
PixiePlease · 24/03/2022 13:46

To those of you saying short hair is ageing- I guess it might be, depending on your hair, face etc. I'm mid 30s so I am quite concerned I'll bump myself into mid 40s range with a wrong cut!

My long hair, however easy to take care of, is utter shit. Here it is, unstyled. I can add volumising foams, sleep with it up etc but it always goes flat at certain length. I don't think it does anything for me Confused.

I miss my waist being so small though Grin

@StCharlotte does it work well with a fringe? I think my forehead is better covered

JaneJeffer · 24/03/2022 13:48

I think you have great bone structure so short hair would be lovely on you.

MoonOnASpoon · 24/03/2022 13:53

Mine's a bit like this (can be styled in either way). I've always suited short hair and I definitely look older if it gets longer. I also have fine hair, but I don't find styling that much hassle - you just need a volumising spray or powder and a bit of wax.

I have total hair envy/crush for a woman at my gym - she’s in her 40s and has an undercut. Her hair on top is either top knotted, or styled into these sweeping roll things, she looks so bloody cool and seems to have lots of choice with that top bit.

Mind you she’s Italian with phenomenal bone structure - she exudes “I don’t give a shit” attitude.

BlingLoving · 24/03/2022 14:06

I think the picture of the last cut you posted (page 1) was great and could work. I have a lot of hair and it's very thick. Its also a little bit wavy so I went short but it's cut in a lot of layers and very choppy to make it softer and curlier. Sort of like this picture of Nina from 24. I love it.

I absolutely hate a lot of volume on top so many of these cuts on here would freak me out completely (and the very early link posted was really just the same cut in a few different styles, all very top heavy).

Short hair but not sensible!
PixiePlease · 24/03/2022 14:55

I look ok with volume on top because of my square face. I DO NOT want to end up looking like this though!
Any idea how to avoid it?

I love Michelle William's hair but don't know about bleaching mine, I think it makes it more funky.
