Joules yellow 'mum' coat

I bought the joules yellow 'mum' coat a few years ago- you know the one. I really don't want to wear it this spring but it is so practical. Waterproof but not sweaty, not too hot, decent pockets, casual to wear with jeans, bright colour so easily found in a crowd (unless there are several people wearing the same coat!)

What else would be a good replacement?

Haha, I just bought a yellow Joules coat and call it my Mum Coat.

Buy another? Grin

Lollll I’ve got one of these, bought while pregnant in a flurry of hormones and feeling I ought to have a mum coat. I feel like such a frump in mine but the pockets are ideal! Following with interest: my very glamorous neighbour has kids my age and she’s always in fabulous coats looking fabulous, not an ounce of Joules in her wardrobe.

I don't understand. If you like it and it suits it's purpose, why wouldn't you wear it?
Mistressiggi · 19/03/2022 18:12

When I was a young thing a coat was basically for life, not just for a year or two.

ImprobablePuffin · 19/03/2022 18:32

Why don't you want to wear it? It sounds perfect for what you need?

caprimoon · 19/03/2022 18:38

Fatface 'Taylor' jacket, I like the pink for Spring.

I'm not sure this is any more stylish but I have just replaced my Joules school run coat with this. I will remove the fur now it is springtime.

Clarabellawilliamson · 19/03/2022 18:46

It's a bit too small for me now! And pretty battered after a good few years of use!

As a Granny if I buy a mum coat will it make me look younger?Grin

TheRealHousewife · 19/03/2022 19:17

I’ve got the Joules Yellow Raincoat … my oh says I look like a fisherman 😬 Still wear it though! Nice lining, nice pockets, not too heavy.

So what's the criteria?

Hood ?
Pockets ?
Showerproof or properly waterproof ?
Buttons, zip or poppers ?
Over your bum but not down to your knees?

LazyDoll · 19/03/2022 19:22

Snap. I bought it in Lockdown in a 50% off sale. Had no idea how many other people had this coat! Income mum ShockI’ve not worn it since. Must eBay it! Thanks for remind me!!

iamnotanalcoholic70 · 19/03/2022 19:25

My DH calls mine 'mummy's marvellous mustard mac'. I tell him to fuck off🤣🤣

LazyDoll · 19/03/2022 19:26

*including my mum (typos)

Clarabellawilliamson · 19/03/2022 20:17

@LizzieMacQueen

Hood ? Yes
Pockets ? Yes
Showerproof or properly waterproof ? Showerproof probably ok, bonus for properly waterproof
Buttons, zip or poppers ? Zip
Over your bum but not down to your knees? Def not knees, would like it to cover bumcrack when sitting or bending down (next request will be for jeans that don't fall down!)
Size 14-16

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I think the fat face one is probably the closest, it's slightly less 'technical' looking

Oh I love my mum coat 😂. DS calls me Paddington when I wear it though even though it’s yellow.

Imanidiotiknow · 19/03/2022 20:55

I unashamedly love mine!

gogohm · 19/03/2022 20:57

I have a jacket that looks a bit like the joules one but it's tresspass, comes in several colours

DiscoBadgers · 19/03/2022 21:02

I too have succumbed to the yellow mum coat and it’s the BEST.

How about this one?

I too have a yellow mum coat (Regatta) and my kids call me Mummy Big Banana whenever I wear it. Ah well.

GreenClock · 19/03/2022 21:06

Is that the coat that was worn by Eve Myles in that drama where she played a solicitor whose husband went missing? I remember threads at the time I think.

I have this coat in the leaf pattern. It is really lovely!

runningfromreality · 19/03/2022 21:25

Lol at 'mummybigbanana'!

I spent ages mulling over the Protected Species ones. Then found a black knee length raincoat with grosgrain ribbon in Tesco of all places, it's fully waterproof and I actually feel very stylish in it. No snazzy lining in sight.

My top tip is that 'waterproof' is not as expensive as some brands want you to think it is.
