Can I wear this to a wedding!

Hey there,

Having spent the last two years in jeans and running gear, I have totally lost the ability to dress myself!

Can I wear this to a wedding? www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/kitty-midi-shirt-dress-ivory-lemon-fizz/sty-w0705-ltu?cat=C1_S2_G4

About the wedding - Extended family, will be child rangling, catholic cathedral then lux (maybe slightly ostentatious?) hotel for reception.

Would plan to wear with wedges and realistically accessorise with huge bag full of kids stuff…

Yes, it's a very pretty dress. Like the dress on the other "can I wear this to a wedding" that's a dress I would wear as an everyday dress but I wear dresses all the time.

I could see me buying that for a wedding but then integrating it straight into my normal dresses.

TheOpenRoad · 12/03/2022 22:21

It's a nice dress, it seems a little casual for a cathedral and luxury hotel wedding, but it's important that you're comfortable. Is there a dress code for the wedding?

JodieFoster1 · 12/03/2022 22:21

I like it for a wedding, it’s fun and pretty. I love colourful celebratory clothes for weddings.

Burnamer · 12/03/2022 22:23

Yes I think so. Would you add a hat? Sounds like the kind of wedding that hats would be be appropriate.

Concestor · 12/03/2022 22:40

I think if you accessorise well it will be fab. It's a touch casual but go for bright accessories and I think it will work.

MyAnacondaMight · 12/03/2022 22:43

It’s very pretty, but a little casual for a cathedral/hotel type wedding. Would be ok for a tipi and bunting in a field.

twiggy19 · 12/03/2022 22:45

Like the style of the dress just not the pattern.

Bit too much.

WutheringCripes · 12/03/2022 22:48

Little bit casual, I'd wear that on the school run! It is lovely though.

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/03/2022 22:49

I like it, but as the model is 5foot 9 then it would look stupid on me

BirdWatch · 12/03/2022 22:53

No.

Amelion · 12/03/2022 22:55

I think it’s more day time than dressy wedding. It reminds me of something Kirsty Allsopp would wear…

MarmiteCoriander · 12/03/2022 22:56

I too like the shape, but for me the pattern is too busy and doesn't say cathedral/luxurious wedding. It says summery, casual, garden party.

If you are comfortable in it and can accessorise then go for it. I would normally wear a more structured dress with boning/lining to a wedding to hold me in though.

Palavah · 12/03/2022 22:58

Yes - it would be fab with a red hat/headband.

Fernandina · 12/03/2022 22:59

I like it.

Palavah · 12/03/2022 22:59

*orange not red

BeetyAxe · 12/03/2022 23:01

Too casual for that type of wedding I think. I think you might feel underdressed. You could wear that in summer with flats to the pub and not feel overdressed.

catfunk · 12/03/2022 23:14

I like the last one - scenic meadow. I'd wear it with Mac lady danger and some really bright heels.

That dress is gorgeous! If I had an occasion to wear it I would totally be buying it

@MinglingFlamingo

Sorry to detail the thread but I always wonder why some posters quote the OP’s first post in their reply. Isn’t the assumption that as you’re posting on the thread, unless you indicate otherwise, you’re replying to the OP? Especially when the OP has only posted once so you’re replying to their first post.

I don't normally quote the opening post and intend to agree especially when it's a long full blown essay. but I do on style & beauty threads so that everyone knows what dress I'm referring to when other dress options are posted as the thread progress.

Sorry if it wasn't the done thing to do in this thread. Must learn to read the room

Kite22 · 13/03/2022 00:10

It is nice enough though not cheap but I'm not convinced it is 'Cathedral then luxury Reception' posh. However, you know the people who would be attending and we don't.

I don't keep up with fashion particularly so feel completely free to ignore me, but I think the 'shirt style' makes it a dress to go to work in rather than a "dressy dress". Which would be fine if you were asking if you could get away with wearing something you had for work because you didn't have the budget for a fancy new outfit, but if you are buying new, specifically for a wedding, then it wouldn't be my choice.

slimshady18 · 13/03/2022 00:17

i mean its hideous but u can definitely wear it to a wedding

Aquamarine1029 · 13/03/2022 00:26

Definitely not. Far too casual.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 13/03/2022 00:37

No it looks too much like PTA mum at school summer fair kinda vibe.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/03/2022 04:34

This with a nice jacket would still be practical but far more elegant. Similar price range.
