Can anyone wear a jumpsuit?

I love the look of jumpsuits. On any one else. I’ve tried a few on and I look like an angry toddler whose nappy is full.

I’m 5ft2 and size 18. So more Humpty sumptuous than Claudia Schiffer. Is there a jumpsuit trick out there I’m missing? Or do I just forget about them.

I’d love to wear this one at an upcoming wedding (I know I know, I’m well cheap) m.shein.co.uk/Plus-Swiss-Dot-Butterfly-Sleeve-Wide-Leg-Belted-Jumpsuit-p-2784203-cat-1927.html?scici=plussize~~ON_Banner,CN_ShopBySize,HZ_0,HI_0~~23_2~~itemPicking_00102949~~~~0 but suspect it just won’t look the way it does on the model…

I love jumpsuits. I think they're easy to wear casually or dress up with heels. I'm a size 14.

The only Thing I'd say is consider the middle belt fabric. I couldn't wear that jumpsuit as the belt would emphasise my stomach. I need more patterned fabric so you don't see every lump and bump.
Definitely a v neck, and batwing type / long ish sleeves can be very flattering.
I do love the colour of that jumpsuit though...

dudsville · 08/03/2022 21:16

I can't. I'm nearly equal halved at my hips, which means my torso is too long for every one I've tried. Sitting down in one becomes quite a personal and uncomfortable little hello as the fabric runs out of options where to go.

tpmumtobe · 08/03/2022 21:18

I'm 5ft9 and a 10/12 pear shape. I look bloody awful in all jumpsuits. I'm long in the body so they always cut me in half and are too short in the leg. I've given up.

Lurking9to5 · 08/03/2022 21:20

I like that. I don't see why it would be any harder to pull off than a dress.

Theunamedcat · 08/03/2022 21:20

It looks pretty but quite gathered at the front and tight at the back to be blunt it looks like it would split if I sit in it

But pretty

TheGirlWhoLived · 08/03/2022 21:20

I think anyone CAN but perhaps not everyone SHOULD.
I think you would look a little humptuous sumptuous in that and would urge you towards finding some nice high waisted flarey trousers and a wraparound top. But that sounds quite bananarama-esque when written down so I could be spouting rubbish

TheGirlWhoLived · 08/03/2022 21:21

I think it’s a height thing rather than a weight thing. I’m 5ft and look like I’m wearing a onesie like a toddler if I wear a jumpsuit. I can get away with playsuits so if its warm get your legs out!

FannyFifer · 08/03/2022 21:23

I've a few from HellBunny which are really flattering.

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 08/03/2022 21:23

I love "Humpty sumptuous" I thought you wrote that deliberately Grin

I've never tried a jumpsuit - I'm sometimes tempted as I like the ideaof dresses and have quite a few but rarely wear them except on really hot summer days when I'm not going anywhere or if I'm actually away on holiday - they just feel a bit exposed and no matter how much people rave about pockets the pockets are one of fashion's greatest cons as you can't put anything in dress pockets! They're useless!

Anyway jumpsuits are tempting as they should be a more practical, less exposed dress alternative, but then I anticipate camel toe and dropping the top half in the toilet...

So no.

Really I just wanted to admire your coining of Humpty sumptuous Grin

HumptySumptious · 08/03/2022 21:28

Best typo ever 😄.

And I stole it for my new name, I hope that's OK!

Cherry321 · 08/03/2022 21:42

I wear them quite often and think they look fine. Just make sure you and undo and do up any zips without help as a few times I’ve struggled going to the loo.

Anyfeckinusername · 08/03/2022 21:42

Oh my god I love your description!

I’m jumpsuit mad too but have never owned one! I was about to buy this one

www.baukjen.com/products/sally-organic-jumpsuit-khaki

Still tempted but it’s bloody dear! I’m 5ft 10 and worry I’ll look like Stan laurel in it.

AmandaStaveleysBlackNWhiteArmy · 08/03/2022 21:44

@NotABear that’s lovely, shein had one similar I think… not that I’m wedded to the idea of shein but this isn’t a particularly close friends wedding so don’t want to spend a fortune 👀

@HumptySumptious Grin Grin go for it!

This is another one. But not sure about the Bardot top. m.shein.co.uk/Plus-Floral-Print-Off-Shoulder-Shirred-Jumpsuit-p-8633472-cat-1927.html?scici=productDetail~~RecommendList~~RS_own,RJ_NoFaultTolerant~~You%20May%20Also%20Like~~ProductDetailYouMayAlsoLike,NewStyleYouMayAlsoLike,YouMayAlsoLikeMoreGoods,YouMayAlsoLikeWishCart~~0

This dress has caught my eye though. And is probably a better bet than a jumpsuit in terms of resembling someone from a nursery rhyme m.shein.co.uk/product-p-8543812-cat-1889.html?scici=Wishlist~~Wishlist~~1~~Wishlist~~~~

@Anyfeckinusername I mean I’d look like a mechanic in that. Like Kevin Webster. I’m sure you’d look better, that is well expensive though!

I love this one: www.meandem.com/casual-cotton-cheesecloth-jumpsuit-belt-black - just wish it wasn't black. Am hoping they'll do it in navy.

stringbean · 08/03/2022 21:50

Def needs the belt though! The model looks like she's just rolled out of bed in her pyjamas in the last picture!

MenaiMna · 08/03/2022 21:58

Two things about jumpsuits

  1. Why isn't everyone more afraid of dropping them in the loo/on toilet floor?
  2. Doesn't anyone remember last summer's hilarious thread along the lines of "help! I'm stuck in a Seasalt jumpsuit" OP was lucky to escape without the aid of the fire brigade - I wish I could do links!
P.S. Third thing: Wear what you like, the sooner more of us wear what we like the sooner we can stop sexism and body shaming (so happy this thread didn't go that way.)
nutellingyou · 08/03/2022 22:08

I'm your shape and size exactly. I bought a really good black jumpsuit from Next a couple of years ago. Flattering and good quality. I got an 18 petite and it fits really well. If I were you I'd go in somewhere to try a few on and see if you can get a feel for them.

whysoserious123 · 08/03/2022 22:20

BOOHOO have loads on jumpsuits that's will look lovely and on the green colour for around the £20-£25 mark, I just looked

Point 1 is a genuine fear of mine
AC2022 · 08/03/2022 22:24

I’ve always wanted to be able to wear one. I have this one in my wardrobe waiting for the day when I stop looking as though I’ve arrived to service a gas boiler.

Also the toilet thing puts me off. 🤣
