Can you recommend me your bar soap?

Since converting to bar soaps, I have tried quite a few but my favourite is definitely the Nesti Dante Fig and almond. I wanted to like some of the others as they sounded so nice and tried the coconut one and the mandarin ones but really wasn’t keen on the smell!

I’d quite like a smaller sized one for travelling (I know I could just cut it up) as the Nesti Dante ones are quite big and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for smaller soaps that smell fab?!

The Yorkshire Soap Company do some lovely ones. I like the botanical ones best. Can't use all of them on the face, though, so check usage..

@Darklane

L’Occitane do small ones in lots of flavours. Or good old Dove
Another vote for good old Dove

Different but great for the skin, even if not very pretty looking
I found them first in Greenwich market, where they have a stall

Yes I have them on a draining soap dish. Maybe it was an issue with the particular soap I bought,and I should try some different ones!

Anyone use a magnetic soap holder and one to attach to wall tiles? I dislike the sloshy mess of a soap dish.

Appuskidu · 08/03/2022 14:03

Wow-thank you for all of the replies! I didn’t realise there were smaller versions of the Nesti Dante soaps-just a shame you seem to have to buy all 6-I only want the fig one Grin.

I will try some of the other suggestions though-I would really like to smell them first so may need to go to some actual shops. I used to use Dove and whilst it smells nice, isn’t a proper bar soap-it’s more of a moisturiser and didn’t really leave me feeling properly clean.

I have one of those magnetic soap holders which helps stop them going slushy for the shower, but on the look out for a small travel one in a tin so will have to try TKMaxx.

Thank you again!

Little Soap Company. So weird to see them in places like Tesco now - I remember when they used to be a one-woman market stall at farmer's markets and events around the Cotswolds, and you could book 'soap school' with her. Now it's this big(gish) company. They're lovely soaps, all genuine ingredients, and last ages. The posh hand-cut ones are sold on their website, in local shops around here, and, I think, in Waitrose, and the mass produced, which are half the price, are in supermarkets. As far as I can work out the only difference is that they aren't organic, and they use eg olive or lemon oils instead of the expensive ones like lavender or rose geranium.

They also sell shampoo bars. I hate solid shampoo, sadly, as they're so much better for the environment.

I also have a soft spot for L'Occitane's Lemon Verbena. The hotel where we went to on honeymoon was stocked with all that range, and I still love them now.

I really like Nesti Dante too but can never quite remember which are my favourites, so I buy a selection each time I purchase them. They do smaller bars in sets though I find those don't last very long in the shower so tend to get the larger ones. Currently we're working our way through the Philosophica and Dolce Vivere ranges. The Platinum Anniversary soap is lovely too.

If anyone goes on a trip to Florence (and possibly other Italian cities) keep a look out in the shops, as Nesti Dante soaps were only a couple of euros a bar last time we visited.

Sainsburys do 2 really nice ones, Rose and Peony and Bergamot and Nectarine. Only £2.10 and lovely smell!

@YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp

Pears soap, the blue or green versions are fabulous.
This. Love these 2.

I literally stock up on Savon de Marseille and massive bags of coffee beans when I am in France. When we are running low on both then I know it's time for a trip to France.

Girlintheframe · 14/03/2022 08:02

I just opened a faith in nature one yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised.
It smells lovely and is creamy when using. Doesn't dry my skin out either like a lot of soaps do.

I find they lose their scent almost immediately once opened though. Nice soap and not drying like you say.

African Black Soap. It's marvellous stuff

Mercurial123 · 14/03/2022 17:05

I've just bought Botanic Bliss from Beauty Kitchen. It smells really good.

I do this when in France, but the last few times I've found it difficult to find the soap. Markets have it but they're a bit hit and miss. Do you have a place you regularly find it?

I like the Nesti Dante Golden countryside one a lot. But not cheap so I use good old Dove bars the rest of the time!
