Want to look stylish on long haul flight

procrastinationstations · 23/02/2022 17:07

Know it's all about comfort but I'm flying on my own without my kids and want to feel a bit special as well as comfy.

One way was somehow cheaper for business class.... so I need to look the part.......

Any suggestions - with pictures/links would be great!

I have a wonderful friend who is loaning me her Louis Vuitton flight bag and Pochette, so my bags are sorted and I have new veja trainers - so footwear is fine too.

Dress for you not anyone else. Nobody in business class will be judging you, they certainly won't all be expensively dressed and most of them will be too busy sleeping/ reading/ watching films/ working to care.

Assuming the above, what about just a lovely cashmere wrap on top of what you'd normally wear?

Bakingdiva · 23/02/2022 17:29

I used to fly business a lot (company paid) and I genuinely couldn't have told you what anyone was wearing other than me and the staff. Some days I was going straight to meetings so was wearing business dress (not fun on a UK to California flight) , some days it was slouchy stuff.

The only thing I cared about was having a large pashmina that doubled as pillow / blanket and hand cream for ridiculously dry air.

Porridgeislife · 23/02/2022 17:33

Wide leg jersey trousers or nice tights
Vest top
Long cardigan/shacket

I’m lucky to fly a lot (or did pre Covid) for work & pretty much anything goes. Some airlines (not BA) will give you pyjamas for overnight flights and most people change into them straightaway.

This is from Sainsbury’s lounge wear. I am always looking for flight clothes. It’s like a posh tracksuit. It is so comfortable, looks great with trainers, but if it wasn’t for the fabric it would actually pass as a business suit. I always travel in layers, and that’s what is nice about this outfit, can be worn with a T shirt. And I would also take a pashmina.
People fly in all sorts so I agree just go in what is comfortable for you.

The houndstooth blazer and crop trousers.

procrastinationstations · 23/02/2022 17:48

Thanks for the replies - I'm really into clothes and it's part of the excitement for me, so I'd really like to make an effort - for myself! I obv want to be comfy - so I was thinking pleather leggings and a sweater? I think (I haven't flown for so long) it's cold on the plane???

Just wear whatever you like, no-one else will notice. I usually feel warm on planes but there will be blankets available if you feel cold.

TheNinjaWife · 23/02/2022 18:01

Sometimes it’s baking on a plane, other times freezing, that’s why I always go for layers.

Canyoujustgotobedplease · 23/02/2022 18:04

I'm always cold on planes.
This thread reminded me of the time I bought a "nice" lounge suit for a long haul flight and 8 hours in my period was unexpectedly heavy and leaked everywhere and then my son was on my lap and shit himself which went all up my front.

Still had 2 hours to go and just wanted to open the door and jump out.
I hope your flight is more pleasant than mine Grin

Dumblebum · 23/02/2022 18:06

Op, there is no difference to what any one wears in economy v business class. There is no part to look. Just wear what you want.

TheNinjaWife · 23/02/2022 18:07

This is the look I go for, but depends on your personal style. Also I take into consideration things like the need to wear flight socks, and if I can easily put them on onboard, so if I wear fitted trousers the bottoms need to be stretchy.

I'd go for yoga type wide leg trousers and top, with a lovely trendy blazer/jacket type thing to go on top. And some lovely soft ankle boots in styles that suit you.

You will feel stylish as you walk through the airport and can give the jacket in as you board for the attendant to hang up.

I would not carry any bling kind of bag through an airport, though, too likely to be targeted ...

White Company has some lovely clothes. Low key, but elegant.

Lots of layering ideas

Or wear skinny jeans, tight comfy top and a long line cardigan

londonmummy1966 · 24/02/2022 19:26

My go to for business class flights are a pair of heavy jersey wide leg trousers from Uniqlo, a t shirt over a thin v neck cardigan and a fabric biker jacket with a pashmina round my neck. Lots of layers all of which are comfortable to sit in if it is really cold and easy to get in and out of if I need to.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 24/02/2022 20:14

I felt exactly the same OP when we flew business class I get you! Smile
It's part of going away for me and I look forward to planning my outfit.
I'm not bothered what anyone else thinks either I'm doing it for me! Hmmpeople are deliberately missing the point....? this is S&B
I wore hush harems
Silky t shirt
Cotton lightweight jumper and a casual charcoal jersey jacket and trainers.
Packed nice skincare minis for the journey.
Enjoy!!

midsomermurderess · 24/02/2022 20:23

Why are some people suddenly so concerned about this? There have been 2 very long threads about what to wear in business class recently. Search for those.

DogsAndGin · 24/02/2022 20:28

Yes I love your idea of pleather leggings. I just think they’d be sweaty and uncomfortable. How about these ideas:

Some type of pashmina and huge sunglasses to hide your red eyes. And I always bring thick socks to change into on the flight so that I can take my boots off. And earplugs.

leopooh · 24/02/2022 20:40

I always dress for comfort & practically. Normally jeans/joggers with a tshirt & cotton sweatshirt with a shacket/thick cardi & a scarf. Shoes that are easy to get on/off

littlese · 24/02/2022 21:00

What airlines are you flying? Qatar gives out free pyjamas so I much prefer changing to them rather than sleeping in my clothes

BIWI · 24/02/2022 21:07

You really don't know need to 'look the part'! Everyone who is flying in business or first will be thinking only about their comfort.

DJSteves · 24/02/2022 21:17

Flew back business last week from the Middle East. Primark leggings. Uniqlo hoodie dress and trainers. Needed them walking down a German airport at 5am

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/02/2022 21:27

I flew back in First from California last week and wore:

Camel wool oversized blazer (designed by a friend)
Black pleather leggings from Asos ( I use thse for flying a LOT)
Black James Perse T-shirt, under a black Issey Miyake Pleats Please huge polo neck jumper
Black leather combat boots (zip on and off) that I changed into grey cashmere (Vivi Venezia) slippers after take-off
PLUS
a black silk/cashmere pashmina (it's silk on one side, cashmere on the other - cooling or warming depending on which side is next to your skin)
I always take my own travel size feather pillow & black silk pillowcase

Everything is planned around being comfy and practical so layers for hot / cold and black to hide dirt / spills but also still chic.

If you say which airline, we can give you better advice on what they'll provide (hand cream, face spritz, eye cream ,etc - or very little depending on who you fly with).
