How not to look a state on a beach holiday

Enzbear · 22/02/2022 20:34

First beach holiday abroad in two years coming up in 3 weeks. Yay.
I've been busy googling some (staged) beachy pictures knowing I never quite pull it off.
But going to give it my best shot anyway-
I'm slim but extremely pale so probably going to start building up a fake tan.
Bought new bikini's and kaftan thing.
Have a few hats as my hair doesn't fair well. Tried beachy waves once, absolute disaster!
Pedi and paint toe nails.
Any other tips? What do you do? Especially with your hair? Products etc?

I’m planning on an LVL (lash perm and tint) before our holiday. Makes wearing no make up a bit less scary. Maybe a brow tiny as well

Enzbear · 22/02/2022 20:38

Ooh yes and make up!

Tan before you go. I’m fond of tan luxe that you can add to
a regular body or face moisturizer for a buildable glow. I tend to wear factor 50 all over now so need some help looking sunkissed!

Simple capsule wardrobe. Denim shorts. Long dress, short dress, t-shirts, simple jewellry, loose fitting trousers, vests. Smart sandals, beach sandals. Swimsuit and bikini. Oversized shirt. Smart beach bag. Stylish sunglasses. Floppy hat.

Oh and yes agree - brow shape and tint. I’d love to get lamination done but apparently not allowed whilst breastfeeding.

Allsorts1 · 22/02/2022 20:42

Get a spray tan! Much easier than tanning yourself and will last the whole trip.

Have slides for beach wear. And nice sarongs that look good with bikinis. Stylish big canvas bag for the beach.

I get hair blow dried before I leave then just don’t get it wet all week Blush
Also wear my usual makeup but adjust for heat

Purpleavocado · 22/02/2022 20:48

I don't take foundation, just my darkest concealer and bronzer instead. And unless you're going somewhere posh I wouldn't get too dressed up.

My brows have been slowly disappearing since I turned 50. We're off to the Caribbean at Easter and I didn't want to be browless in the pool and sea, so I had my eyebrows microbladed a few weeks ago and they look fantastic. Completely natural, very slightly fluffy at the inner corners, really flattering. I'm booked to have LVL lashes just before we fly so my eyes will look fresher and awake even with no make up. Also getting a Shellac manicure and a Russian pedicure too. Finally, I'm also getting a keratin blow-dry so my hair stays sleek and shiny, because even though I have short hair it will frizz and kink in the humidity, otherwise.

I'm all about industrial levels of holiday preparation, so that I don't have to worry or do much while I'm away.

I mean I know this is style and beauty but honestly Who care what you look like on the beach or around the pool? Just relax and have fun

I am not meaning this rudely at all as each to their own but how to you keep it dry all week ?

I guess i love being in the pool /sea too much - or will do if I get to go abroad this year

I hope you have a lovely holiday OP

Snoopsnoggysnog · 22/02/2022 22:25

@BeaLola it’s a fair question haha
Well maybe not all week. I would avoid the water maybe for the first half then go for it after the first 3/4 days and not care too much.
My hair looks terrible in humidity and I can’t bear blow drying on holiday so that’s why I’d try to avoid getting it wet for the first few days.

This is the saddest thing. You don’t get your hair wet. You’re one of those mums.
RandomDent · 23/02/2022 08:41

This is why massive sunglasses were invented.

Happy36 · 23/02/2022 09:07

If your hair is longer, put it in a braid for the beach and pool.

Don't get sunburned and drink sufficient water, especially if your room has air-con.

Happy36 · 23/02/2022 09:08

Sandals are a thousand times more chic than flipflops.

Suprima · 23/02/2022 09:11

I echo what everyone has said so far about nails, lashes and brows.

But really, it’s the nice holiday and beach products that make me feel great Smile I always pick up a new summery perfume in duty free. I also bring nuxe hair spf to spray onto my plaits to condition them, and ultrasun all day spf30 sun cream with the shimmer inside. I also bring a really lovely scented moisturiser for after sun- the Hawaiian tropic butters are cheap and smell like holiday.

Wiennetta · 23/02/2022 09:22

I’d get a gel pedicure and manicure and get my brows tinted and shaped and lashes done with LVL.

Spend some time pampering beforehand with hair masks (my hair is less prone to frizz in the heat/humidity when it’s feeling healthy) and de-fuzzing and moisturising.

I usually bring some simple make up on a hot holiday - I like the multi use lip and cheek colours and that sort of thing.

Have fun!

Wiennetta · 23/02/2022 09:23

Oh and take some hair accessories/sun hats. I always swim in the sea/snorkel/dive but plait my hair or use a hair scarf or hat to make it look nice.

Phrenologistsfinger · 23/02/2022 09:28

I never look a state, I love and accept my body for what it is. Overweight, cellulite, veiny pale skin, sometimes hairy (blonde). Noone at the beach cares, they are too concerned with what they look like. Enjoy your holiday!

MissAmbrosia · 23/02/2022 09:36

We're off to Juan Les Pins in a couple of months. I plan to shave my legs, paint my toenails, maybe do a light fake tan. Otherwise I am packing big sunglasses, floaty dresses, sparkly sandals and things to put my hair up. Might buy a new lip gloss.

Happy36 · 23/02/2022 09:41

Juan les Pins is lovely, enjoy

bellabride · 23/02/2022 09:42

I’m wondering what a Russian pedicure is.

Happy36 · 23/02/2022 09:44

bellabride Your toenails buy up most of west London, take over the U.K. press, then invade the Ukraine. I'd stick to gel, frankly.
