Best soap for removing sweat smell of armpits

62 replies

TobyMory · 19/02/2022 09:54

I am sweaty and menopausal. Moved to soap as shower gel was no use. I have had a shower this morning and lathered my armpits. Got out of the shower and they still smell of stale sweat. What do I need to use to remove the smell? It’s so embarrassing.

What does the glycolic acid do? I feel like I’ve tried everything else.

It helps with sweat and also gets rid of any last traces of old deo

hibiscrub or benzoyl peroxide wash - let it sit for a bit to kill bacteria

I have the same issue. Isn't peri a delight? It's only a few days a month so it is hormonal. I tend to double wash - once with soap and once with shower gel.

A soap with tea tree oil in will help op . I get one.from Holland and Barratt

TeaAddict235 · 19/02/2022 16:27

Try some African black soap. It's an astringent (so also great for oily hair and facial exfoliating). Go to your local African / Caribbean grocers and ask for the green box. The name is a bit unusual for anglophones, but it should be reasonably priced. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Letting my underarm hair grow has helped a lot for me!

anotherbrewplease · 19/02/2022 16:42

Definitely use a flannel after lathering with plenty of soap. I also use Mitchum roll on

Marmelace · 19/02/2022 16:43

@madmomma

Before you change your soap, try using a shower Lily to scrub and rinse twice. This is what sorted it for me. Then sure cotton dry as soon as you dry off.
I never knew they were called shower lillies, I just had to Google. I've always called them buff puffs 😄

Dr bronner liquid soap and a flannel

AnxiousHeffalump · 19/02/2022 17:02

Dettol soap, and Triple Dry deodorant. It’s expensive, but it’s the only thing that works for my perimenopausal pits!

Wordlewobble · 19/02/2022 17:02

DD smelled terrible we got her some shield soap and Mitchum deodorant as recommended on a teen thread and the smell went.

Isabelle70 · 19/02/2022 20:51

I really need to read up on the menopause as all I hear friends talk about is the hot flushes. I have no clue about what joys are about to come, but maybe that's a good idea!

TobyMory · 19/02/2022 22:59

Some great advice here. Going to get some dettol
And whiled to try and some new flannels to scrub with for starters thanks. And the clothes tips also welcome!

I had the opposite experience to the poster who said let the hair grow. It made my issue worse so I actually had laser hair removal. It was a good investment.

I also find exfoliation key.

Ozanj · 19/02/2022 23:20

You need to exfoliate. Try a korean Italy cloth when you have properly soaked your pits. Alternatively shave them everyday

ducktape · 19/02/2022 23:56

Shield soap, it's inexpensive, it works and I kinda like the smell

AuditAngel · 20/02/2022 00:34

DD uses Shield and that seems to work.

@Marmelace

Me too Grin

Mollysocks · 20/02/2022 07:41

@grey12

My mum rubs a little bit of fairy before throwing in the washing machine
I don’t think OP can fit in the washing machine 🤣
Q1w2e3 · 20/02/2022 10:00

Thanks, pawpaws.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 20/02/2022 11:31

Shield soap

Silverstreaks · 20/02/2022 20:15

Using an abrasive (flannel or puff) definitely works to remove the old deodorant and give a clean fresh armpit.
The best deodorant I found was Driclor. A tiny roll on but powerful and worth the price.

JillPole123 · 20/02/2022 20:24

I second the glycolic acid suggestion. I use those Nip Fab pre-soaked discs and last thing before I leave the shower I wipe underarms and rinse off. I switched to salt crystal deo so wanted to be extra sure armpits were clean as that deo is not very forgiving/effective Grin

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 20/02/2022 20:28

Trust deodorant paste works well. You rub it on at night and wash off in the morning. It's in Boots along with their super strength deodorant range.
