Best soap for removing sweat smell of armpits

I am sweaty and menopausal. Moved to soap as shower gel was no use. I have had a shower this morning and lathered my armpits. Got out of the shower and they still smell of stale sweat. What do I need to use to remove the smell? It’s so embarrassing.

Well soap usually does it for me, but dettol do an antibacterial soap. Maybe try that?

TobyMory · 19/02/2022 10:53

Wondered about dettol. I suppose smelling like antiseptic is preferable to sweat ….

My mum rubs a little bit of fairy before throwing in the washing machine

For clothes - a spritz of vinegar directly on the underarm works great

Carbolic soap (the red stuff)Grin ?

SedentaryCat · 19/02/2022 11:02

I feel your pain OP - some days I am sure people think I haven't showered.

I found Sanex showergel helps with the stale pit smell. Normal showergels are no use. Soap is also hit and miss.

Also having difficulty finding an anti-perspirant that actually works. Loving the menopause Hmm

Before you change your soap, try using a shower Lily to scrub and rinse twice. This is what sorted it for me. Then sure cotton dry as soon as you dry off.

whoruntheworldgirls · 19/02/2022 11:06

I use the dettol soap, it's great

madmomma · 19/02/2022 11:06

On clothes, a spray of pink vanish on the armpits before the wash.

ChurchlightJane · 19/02/2022 11:08

Same problem. I switched to Dettol soap bar which helps hugely. Still happens sometimes though so can only assume thats when hormones are truly raging.

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2022 11:08

Shield soap good and a good scrub with a flannel. Luckily that stinky phase does pass eventually along with the hot flushes! Triple Dry deodorant is also helpful.

Fairislefandango · 19/02/2022 11:09

Is your bar soap proper soap (rather than Dove or similar, which isn't proper soap)? In any case, it might be worth trying some different brands.

It smells perfectly fine, it doesn't smell like antiseptic. It's probably one of the nicer smelling ones. The others remind me of my grandma

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/02/2022 11:11

Dettol soap works and smells lovely.

pollypokcet · 19/02/2022 11:12

Also for after the shower, I'd advise a roll on deodorant and powder to keep dry

ToniLaRoni · 19/02/2022 11:20

Also check your deodorant.

It could be you're not fully getting off the deodorant from other days so the smell is clinging to that on your skin rather than on your skin.

Beautifullymixed · 19/02/2022 11:37

Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda with a soap such as dettol, cidal or palmolive and scrub armpits.
This can be done daily and removes the smell of sweat.

Roll on deodorant then spray afterwards.
Belt and braces.

I used dove, as when I heated up the smell was gentle.

I still do this today, but I remember the feeling that I was constantly smelling and the scent of rancid sweat/deodorant mixed together Blush

kuime · 19/02/2022 11:43

I find using a shower oil first and then soap best. Agree with pp that it can be due to old deodorant (mixed with sweat) clinging on and I think the oil helps to dissolve this. Gentle scrub with a Korean Italy towel or similar also helps with this.

shakinsti · 19/02/2022 11:44

Dettol soap. My poor OH sweats badly, at times he can be sweaty and a bit smelly less than an hour after a shower! The soap really helps keep things fresh. Plus Mitchum roll on antiperspirant.

MaizeAmaze · 19/02/2022 11:51

Gentle exfoliation. I have a tea tree oil face scrub for occasional pit cleaning. Followed by soap.

ColdinNovember · 19/02/2022 13:08

Shield soap like previous poster said is good for this. Cheap in the range etc too

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 19/02/2022 13:21

I think you need something a (little bit) abrasive as well as the soap. So don't just rub it into your skin and rinse but rub it onto a face flannel or a mesh shower puff and then use that on your body. That's going to remove any dead skin cells harbouring the BO producing bacteria. Then rinse thoroughly still rubbing with the cloth or puff.

I keep my soap in a little hessian bag that hangs in the shower and use that and it seems to keep the smells at bay. I forgot tow Jen I went away last weekend and just used the hotel soap and I definitely wasn't as fresh as I normally am. Luckily it was absolutely freezing and I had many layers on so I hope only I was aware of it.

Hohofortherobbers · 19/02/2022 13:34

I second shield soap.... You SQUEAK after using it Grin

BoyGirlDogCatMouseCheez · 19/02/2022 13:42

You could also try a clay based face mask on your armpits to deep clean them. This works wonders for me, especially useful before a long haul flight to stay fresh for much longer.

Loocheeyar · 19/02/2022 13:43

Odaban for sweating
Pitrok for the smell
Also pit waxing to remove those dead skin cells

pawpaws2022 · 19/02/2022 13:48

Dettol soap
Body scrub
Glycolic acid wiped under armpit after shower
Sure cream deo at night
