Osprey london bag - what would you think? Silent judging.

Am looking at buying a couple of bags - small cross body and a larger hobo.

Very slow fashion here, when I do buy it will be with me till it falls apart. I'm not bothered about a label for a labels sake.
But I work in a very judgy industry where sometimes I'll be required to go to an actual meeting with strangers ( I love zoom) and I don't want them giving my choice of bag the side eye.
So stuff has to be under the radar but awesome or no obvious label or acceptable to those who judge.

I was attracted to Osprey london , well the sale, but then the sheer number of discount shops has made me question the brand.

Don't hold back bitches, what would you silently think, or could you even tell, if you spotted an Osprey bag at the meeting room.

Osprey is very much TK Maxx. I've had a few Coach bags that have been fine, if a little uninspiring but my best decent but not too pricey and not too common leather bags have come from Coccinelle.

VanGoghsDog · 15/02/2022 14:30

@ChiefInspectorParker

Yes, go under the radar.

Osprey is in the ‘Radley zone’ for me I’m afraid. Although my bag is from M&S Grin but if money was no object I’d get Margaret Howell or something crazy from Bottega Veneta.

I have a lovely M&S bag which people have twice asked me if it's Mulberry.

Fossil? A lot of their bags are crossbody and in a nice soft leather. Understated too🙂
I use a Fossil bag for work, it's just right. Plain black, lettering very small and doesn't jump out at you, and it is lasting really well.

The quieter and more understated the better imo. Otherwise it looks like you are trying too hard.

I wonder what your work colleagues would think of me and my bag choices ?
Kurt Geiger Kensington
LV Neverfull
Chanel Boy
Hermes Evelyne
€15 from the local pharmacy bag x 3 (different colours ) a very handy crossbody.

I want to go handbag shopping now... Grin

LaBellina · 15/02/2022 14:42

Coach bags are lovely and quite ‘neutral’ in the sense that they’re not high fashion but not unfashionable either, definitely not cheap but still affordable. Furla is in the same category. I also love Cocinelle, it’s a bit of an unknown brand but they have beautifully made Italian bags in a variety of colors and styles and their websites often has nice bags on sale.

prsphne · 15/02/2022 14:44

I’m willing to splash out on a handbag (100s not 1,000s) as I use them a lot, but wouldn’t give a second thought to some who has an Osprey bag.

I have a Mulberry day to day handbag and an Orla Kiely laptop bag, both of which I love. I’ve just bought a new Harris Tweed handbag too from a souvenir shop in Edinburgh for a small cross body. It’s lovely, it’s my style and I have no idea how the brand would be perceived!

scootalooser · 15/02/2022 14:45

So...

What happens to tv people when they get old or have kids or whatever?

Do they still judge and despise anyone not sufficiently cool? Or is that just a work thing.

I don't think it's easy to stay absolutely cutting edge as you get older tbh.

To clarify, I mean I wouldn’t notice their bag is Osprey, not that I wouldn’t pay them any attention!

Oh I bought a second hand Harris Tweed bucket bag for £3 in a charity shop last week Grin I thought to myself it looks pretty unfashionable but despite being brand new it looks very vintage so I absolutely love it.

@YoshimisMum Just bought a bag. Don't know whether to thank you or blame you Grin Unfortunately small ones are sold out in black and I am not convinced by other colours but I got the last large black satchel type bag. Very excited about it.
I am open to more fashion advice from you! Wink My heart nearly jumped out when I followed your link. Don't know how I held myself from buying 3 of them

blisstwins · 15/02/2022 15:19

I would get something from massaccesi—can get it customized, beautiful leather. Marco, the artisan, often runs promotions and everything I have purchased has far exceeded my expectations. I found out about the brand on Mumsnet.

MondayYogurt · 15/02/2022 15:26

All the TV production people I know are middle aged women with no discernible style.

YoshimisMum · 15/02/2022 15:30

@microbius
Sorry for being such an 'enabler'! Hope you enjoy your purchase

microbius · 15/02/2022 15:34

@YoshimisMum I am very excited, thank you!

PenguinLove1 · 15/02/2022 15:37

Get an Aspinal cross body camera bag - they are great

opoponax · 15/02/2022 15:40

I would suggest Aspinal, Coach or Coccinelle.

Didyousaynutella · 15/02/2022 15:41

I would get something more obscure. Currently in love with the SMAAK Amsterdam cross body bags. So subtle and cool.

yorkshireteaspoonie · 15/02/2022 15:43

I quite like the John Lewis 'KIN' Range simple and understated. Not overpriced.

Totalwasteofpaper · 15/02/2022 15:59

I am prob one of the judgey handbag women that would be a bit Confused at an osprey

I also don't like elvis & kresse Blush

Based on the Cos clothing and TV production job description...

I think take a look at APC, polene, Sézane, Linjer, Senreve, rsvp Paris and demellier.
Maaaaaybe aspinal if you go for the pebble leather (just stay away from the saffiano and mock Croc leathers Envy

Hadjab · 15/02/2022 16:04

Well, I own a large number of designer bags, mainly Mulberry; a Snap On rucksack; numerous bags from ASOS, as well as fabric totes - I also have three Osprey cross-body bags, which are perfect for everyday use. I didn't know they sold them in TK Maxx, not that it makes a blind bit of difference to me.

I'm more than happy to be judged!

ItsRainingTacos · 15/02/2022 16:11

Very A bit uncool. For the price you could get a decent unbranded leather bag or even take a look on eBay for used leather bags.

I've noticed that used Tory Burch and Anya Hindmarch bags usually go for a fraction of their retail price. Also some Mulberry bags (Mitzy and older styles). If you really like the osprey bags then you'll definitely find some bargains on eBay.

russiandwarf · 15/02/2022 16:12

@YoshimisMum and @microbius I have just ordered a bag now too and blame you both 🤣 Like a moth to a flame I was drawn to that link!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 15/02/2022 16:16

Osprey are unfashionable and have definitely overdone the bargain side of things in recent years. Though I have a bag of theirs that’s probably 10 years old and it is very good quality and not overstated in terms of branding or styling. I don’t know what the quality is like of their current production though.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 15/02/2022 16:18

I don’t and have never worked in a ‘cool’ industry though
