37, style crisis, trainers, what's trendy, what's not?

I'm a 37 yo woman, not hugely fashionable as don't have time to be, I don't dress frumpy generally for my age, I wear skinny jeans a lot, & plain crew and v neck tees/ long sleev tops, people usually think I'm much younger 27/28, im a size 8, feel like I could be making more of myself and i know I'm not not making the most of being more fashionable but I'm crap with it! I Chuck on mostly black skinny jeans in winter with black and white sketcher summits slip on trainers which are comfy and practical! I don't have time to work out what would suit me then the time to match bits together to make an outfit, it takes ages then I get stressed and just go back to trusty skinny's with jeans. Prob fact I'm a mum to a 3yo & I just don't have the time but see many very fashionable woman my age & older! No idea how they do it with family too. Also read somewhere skechers are frumpy 👀 I don't want to rock frumpy but huge thick sole trainers are def too Uber trendy for me, so what brands/types of trainers sit best for my age but fact I look younger for my age? 🤦‍♀️

These are my currents I need to replace... they're so well rated and they aren't to me hugely unfashionable looking either or is that my age telling!!...🤷‍♀️

Can anyone tell me best place to buy Nike Dunks, or best range? I'd like the mid style, not low.

www.asos.com/prd/201217043?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Also highly recommending these Pumas!!! Most comfortable ever, throw in washing machine etc!

And I have Vegas, AF1s (which I love) , sketchers (very poor support for me) etc.

FinallySomeNormality · 11/02/2022 07:44

Ohhh this thread is bad for my bank balance! I'm on the hunt for everyday trainers that go with jeans (skinnies and mom style, my new wide leg trousers which I love and also dresses and midi skirts).

Have been lusting over Vejas for a while but always put off by people saying how uncomfortable they are - the tongue especially seems to be ridgid and uncomfy.

Think I'm too short and stumpy looking for Nike Dunks.... they also made my feet look a bit large when I've tried them before (I'm 5ft 2 and size 5 shoe).

Have a pair of new balance but I actually use them as my running/gym trainer. I love the 574s though but would want pastel colours and know I'll find it tough to match with my outfit (or is the idea that you just don't bother matching them?!)

Anything like a Veja campo or esplar that isn't uncomfortable??

MangoLipstick · 11/02/2022 08:32

@Indecisivelurcher I think New Balance come up just right. I also have quite wide feet and they fit really well, no tightness on the sides or on the toes (which sometimes happens with other brands)
They are sooo comfy.

Peachy7 · 11/02/2022 10:38

@corkina Dunks only come in lows or highs. If you're looking for mids you want Jordan 1s. Most dunks are so sought after you can only get them through entering raffles although sometimes Nike, Size, Office or Offspring will do drops but they sell out instantly, eh they will go live at 8am and by 8.01 they're gone, then the only option is eBay at resale price which is usually double or triple retail price

OP I'm 39, I wear Jordans, Dunks, Air Max 90s (by far the most comfy) air force 1s, Adidas superstars or gazelles, converse, Nike Courts are a good daily trainer and usually pretty cheap & can be found in pieces like sports direct, Nike blazers are pretty casual too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2022 16:06

New Balance and Vans too wide for me. I still love Converse, but they're too flat for days of sightseeing etc.

This thread is useful, but I've not found 'the ones' yet.

These are cute

Thank you Peachy7

For me there’s something frumpy and middle aged (speaking as a middle aged woman) about Veja trainers. They are fashionable and very popular though.

Check out Hoff brand trainers. They’re a nice height with out being chunky and there are some lovely colours. Each pair is inspired by a different city or area.

Oliver Bonas stock different trainer brands. I got a gold pair of gola trainers from there and will wear them with white dresses in the summer.

Cocolapew · 11/02/2022 16:36

I wear these on rotation atm, I'm dying for a pair of dark green ones as well. I can only find mens so far.
I can't wear ones that are too flat anymore they pull the back out of me but I can still wear Stan Smiths in the summer.
I have AF1 bit don't really like them due to the flatform sole.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie, did you like the green ones I linked upthread? I know, they are a shocking price. Don't tell my DH!

Sorry. Had missed those. Nice but the colours aren't quite right and they're too expensive for me right now. I've got £££ Paul Smiths for dressing 'up' and I just need something to schlep around in now.

XingMing · 11/02/2022 17:20

Remus, I know the feeling: they're too expensive for me too, but the bright green and ochre make my heart sing... and I know how comfortable they are too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2022 17:34

I really like those Hoff ones, the London ones especially. Also £££ though.

Corkina · 11/02/2022 17:55

Loving the Hoff trainers, never heard of that brand...love the Shanghai Tower and the Zanzibar!

itscomplicatedlife · 12/02/2022 19:51

@Estara Yes, this is the thing, these Nikes are over £50 and are so uncomfortable it's crazy, honestly the Skechers so comfy in comparison, the materials used for both virtually the same just the branding etc that differentiates and the style factor but these nikes are also precarious on certain surfaces too...

@PeanutShell01 Def not be the slickest of trainers out there but they're seriously comfortable I'll give them that

itscomplicatedlife · 12/02/2022 19:58

@Rummikub Lol Skechers I didn't realise how offensive they were 😂😂 I might save them from the fire 😆😆😆😆

@PurpleDaisies I really like these! I think these were on ASOS & foot asylum x

@evilharpy There is no denying these are super comfortable, I bought some really Expensive Adidas not long ago and threw them out as they cut my heels to bits the memory foam souls were stupid design no support at all
Chafed the skin of my heels in less than an hours walk, gutted abs loved the style and my new nike rub in my ankles, they aren't badly fitted but sadly poorly designed, never once had trainers of these brands do this years ago but I'm def going to try out some of the new balance and the nike internationalists look better designed too - didn't realise Skechers could be so offensive 😂😂😂

itscomplicatedlife · 12/02/2022 20:21

@StripyLlama Oh no Socks are abs needed it's about 5 degrees out there! I def aren't overall trendy I won't lie lol 😂 i prize comfort over style for sure, just looking for a trendier brand over the currents but i e got liners for warmer months but no way these ankles are coming out in Feb! I see bare ankles in this weather and I don't know how someone isn't freezing their abs knackers off tbh 😆

So I’m now really wondering what to do, as am suffering so badly with plantar fasciitis in one foot, and have been advised to buy Skechers but can’t see any I like on there! Would any of the others on this thread provide the same kind of support as Skechers but look nice?! I want them all!!!!

XingMing · 12/02/2022 21:20

@Poppity, I don't think I'd buy anything unless I had tried it if I had plantar fasciitis. It may come down to a choice between shoes that hurt and shoes that don't... whatever they look like.

PoppityBoo · 12/02/2022 21:47

XingMing - I think I might cry…

Slowdownandsee · 12/02/2022 21:55

Have a look at Nike blazer jumbo, I had to go up half a size but really comfy and look abit retro go with mom jeans and long skirts or dresses etc also supaga nice but sometimes
Mine feel abit flat , good for my wide feet though and like previous poster said be brave don’t play it safe

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/02/2022 18:16

@MonkeyPuddle

You are me, except I’m a size 18 Grin I live in my Stan smiths. They come up clean really easily with some Elbow Grease spray and an old toothbrush.
I love mine and ordered a second pair, not realising the are not longer leather. The new ones were nowhere near as soft and I sent them back and I'm now trying to find some similar trainers in leather.
