I'm a 37 yo woman, not hugely fashionable as don't have time to be, I don't dress frumpy generally for my age, I wear skinny jeans a lot, & plain crew and v neck tees/ long sleev tops, people usually think I'm much younger 27/28, im a size 8, feel like I could be making more of myself and i know I'm not not making the most of being more fashionable but I'm crap with it! I Chuck on mostly black skinny jeans in winter with black and white sketcher summits slip on trainers which are comfy and practical! I don't have time to work out what would suit me then the time to match bits together to make an outfit, it takes ages then I get stressed and just go back to trusty skinny's with jeans. Prob fact I'm a mum to a 3yo & I just don't have the time but see many very fashionable woman my age & older! No idea how they do it with family too. Also read somewhere skechers are frumpy 👀 I don't want to rock frumpy but huge thick sole trainers are def too Uber trendy for me, so what brands/types of trainers sit best for my age but fact I look younger for my age? 🤦‍♀️

These are my currents I need to replace... they're so well rated and they aren't to me hugely unfashionable looking either or is that my age telling!!...🤷‍♀️

I’ve got some new balance 574s and they are so comfy. I wear them with my ‘mum’ jeans. Also got some white trainers which also go with dresses in the summer.

We sound v similar in age, size and style. I even have some black sketchers vert similar to those which I usually wear to the gym but will also wear out and about if I'm walking a lot but I consider my more attractive trainers some Ugg leather ones (think pump almost converse style)

Soosiesoo · 10/02/2022 05:43

I'm the same age as you and also tend to live in skinny jeans with various jumpers/t shirts. Although I've been trying out looser style jeans to try and feel a bit more current and have found straight jeans work well.

Trainers wise I rotate black/white/leopard vans, black converse hi tops and white Stan smiths.

crushedgrape · 10/02/2022 07:18

New balance are very popular and come in loads of colour ways, so you can go dark for practicality or bright for impact. They're really comfortable too.

Maybe try with a looser shape jean, boy fit or relaxed skinnies if you don't fancy the 'mom' fit.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/02/2022 10:42

@grabitnoe Not those, but thanks for trying. I can't remember what the sole was like, but the tops were a really lush green, maybe a bit more khaki than the ones you linked to.

Justilou1 · 10/02/2022 10:49

What about some classic Converse? You could go for some high tops or some classic Chucks. Lots of colours, even different styles. Very casual but still cool/stylish. (Especially if you haven’t surrendered your skinny jeans. Please don’t. I bet they’ll be back in with a vengeance in about five minutes once people realise that “Mom” jeans are as sexy as a dead hamster in a bag.)

Justilou1 · 10/02/2022 11:00

Here are just some of the bajillions of Converse. Some are leather. Some have moulded footbeds (I am a huge fan!) and some are old-school, flat shoes (not for me!). I’m 50 this year and currently wearing some camo print Run Star Hike boots with leopard print tongue and trim at the back. (Honestly the most comfy shoes ever.)

I wear a fair bit of trainers and have everything from a very expensive Nike pair I got recently (trendy and can't even recall name but £200-£300) to KL ones which are still box-fresh and then Adidas Gazelles and Nikes.

I put my trainers in 2 categories, walking a lot or running and 'fashion ones'.

I love my Nike Internationalists but they're a bit dodgy on slippy, wet pavements.

I used to like Converse but really gone off them now.

I'm a bit like other poster here who likes unusual ones.

Have got fashion trainers from Zara (metallic silver/pewter), zebra (M&S Collection), No Angel (rip off white Chanel) etc.

For me it's all about what you want them for. Also ensure they fit, I used to love NB and had some, got some navy and gold in their sale but forgot they size small so the ones I have fit but are a tad uncomfy. Go half a size up in them.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

I saw somebody wearing dark green velvet trainers recently and I want them so much, but can't find them. :(
@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie - I can help you find them Wink - I'm like you - love anything different!
Gonnagetgoing · 10/02/2022 11:06

@KylieCharlene

Lacoste Lerond. Air Force 1. I think black trainers are dated personally- as are Sketchers-sorry. You need plain white.
@KylieCharlene - yuck to all. I do like white trainers but if you like them pristine and if you have kids (I don't!) they won't generally work!
Gonnagetgoing · 10/02/2022 11:07

@CocoPancakes

I think I have a very similar style to you and same age. You could be describing my wardrobe, aside from the sketchers. If I'm wearing skinny jeans and a basic top I'll normally wear a pair of flatter shoes, like Superga's (I personally think of Lacost as a bit past it too but what do I know). Only problem is if you're on your feet all day I find the flat shoes really uncomfortable. I have a pair of Nike trainers that are very similar to the Sketchers in your pic and if I don't have them on, I tend to stick them in the car so I can change over if I need something a bit more comfortable but less stylish.
@CocoPancakes - supergas are good for running around in.
Cheekypeach · 10/02/2022 11:09

Omg no not the sketchers you will look like a pre school assistant. Get a nice pair of white Reeboks & smash them up a bit.

Indecisivelurcher · 10/02/2022 11:11

I'm also struggling re trainers. Adidas were too narrow. Converse come up short too and don't have any foot support. I asked on here and got some saucony but sent them back because they were waaay too short. So I thought stuff it and got skechers again. But now they are rubbing my heal, I mean what the actual Heck! Also in between all this I got 2 pairs of trainers online from what turned out to be a fake website, and lost that money. Pig sick of bloody trainers at this point.

Gonnagetgoing · 10/02/2022 11:12

@remuslupinsbiggestgroupie, any of these like them?:-

@itscomplicatedlife - if you do want to get yourself a bit trendy it can be anything from:-
  • anything lilac - t-shirt, jumper or nails - lilac is in this season
  • trendy on trend item that suits you. Don't get expensive just cheap, e.g. top or even bag etc.
  • accessories - but I think I'm rubbish at accessorising.
