Would you wear these leather pumps for an interview?

With wide leg black trousers, a tucked in silky blouse and Jaeger subtle dog tooth blazer? I’m so off heels after lockdown I feel really tottering and daft in them. I have some loafers but they are more country- style, tan suede type stuff.

No.

TizerorFizz · 06/02/2022 15:36

For info: Ganni, Saint Laurent, Louboutin and Roger Vivier are all using patent this season. The M&S heeled loafers are spot on!

SonicBroom · 06/02/2022 15:37

What’s the job? Personally no I wouldn’t at all, not least because I can’t see them matching a blazer at all

glasshalfsomething · 06/02/2022 15:38

@bonfireheart

Some basic black ballet pumps for £25 from New Look. Keep for interviews only and they'll last a while.
Oh no! They’ll look too cheap with your planned outfit. Ballet pumps are for kids.

Those shoes are structured and trendy OP, go for it.

TizerorFizz · 06/02/2022 15:39

@Llamasally
No. As above. Discerning buyers with deep pockets are buying patent! Don’t be put off if you like it. I’m a big fan of suede but for work, leather or patent lasts longer.

I loved your sneakers. Just not for interview unless it’s a creative role or company.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 06/02/2022 15:45

I wore what amounted to these for my last interview.

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-comfeel-touch-pointed-flat-shoes-432942COL31SSE420000.html

In very dark purple, with cropped black trousers and a green/purple shirt. I got the job.

stripeyflowers · 06/02/2022 15:59

Very late and pointless - NO!

watchingthedetectives · 06/02/2022 16:18

I like the Kurt Geiger ones you found - I think they would be fine with your outfit and you could wear them later Either those or smart lace ups/brogues ( patent or not)

starfishmummy · 06/02/2022 16:20

No. For.me it's the white soles that yell "trainers". If they had black soles you might get away with it.

bonfireheart · 06/02/2022 16:24

I work in a very senior role in an office with a strict dress code, I wear my £25 New Look ballet pumps with no issue 😄 then I change into trainers to run for the Tube.

WouldBeGood · 06/02/2022 16:44

I really like the M&S heeled ones

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/02/2022 18:07

@Sexnotgender, you’ve posted my work shoes! I’m on my third pair. Clarks do a very similar style too.

😂 they’re so comfortable.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 18:41

[quote Llamasally]Oooh I’ve just seen something that I think would be good - what about these? Would these look right with wide leg trousers though?

Where’s the interview? The pumps are a far better choice unless you are going for an IV somewhere very formal or conservative.

Only wear ballet pumps if you are going for an IV as 2012 Kate Middleton and they are French Sole.

TizerorFizz · 06/02/2022 19:35

You might like these from M&S. The backless are a copy of J W Anderson! Very fashion forward.

ABitOfAShitShow · 06/02/2022 19:54

Senior HR (and former recruiter) for one of the richest, biggest, oldest orgs in the world. I wouldn’t care at all - and our strategy clearly endorses hiring the best talent, regardless of their shoes. Especially in this tight labour market.

That said, it’s clear from this thread that a lot of people still work in environments that are not catching up yet so wrongly, you have to consider the risk.

Or wear them and if you feel like they’re being judged, start limping. Wink

Alrightharry · 06/02/2022 20:06

The patent ones are good.

Might be a good time to get rid of the brown suede ones though.

Llamasally · 06/02/2022 20:33

@Luredbyapomegranate it’s a big multinational, they seem pretty on the ball with people approach but I don’t feel I’m sure enough to brave the trainers - although I’d expect I’d wear them for work if I’m successful

OP posts:
DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 06/02/2022 20:47

Going against the grain but absolutely I would wear those trainers (which are gorgeous), but I’m an academic, not in an uber traditional environment.

TizerorFizz · 06/02/2022 20:58

Why won’t my pix post?? Another go! Not suggesting the JWA look alike ones for the interview! But N&S have upped their game.

TottersBlankly · 06/02/2022 21:01

I’m also in a field where I can wear whatever the hell I like - but if someone asks about wearing a particular item to an interview I have to assume they don’t have the same sartorial freedom.

museumum · 06/02/2022 21:05

I can’t wear heels since an ankle injury. I wear shoes like that to work but for an interview I’d wear brogues.

TulipsGarden · 06/02/2022 21:06

No way. I would happily wear them for work, it's a very casual office, but I'd be surprised if someone turned up for interview in trainers.

imjusthavingaworrytime · 06/02/2022 21:16

Primark or Asda will have loads of cheap options if you can get to one of them

The leopard print boots might be fine but you'll need another jacket

Hmm well I do work in a creative industry, so that is different, but if it’s a multi-national in a big city I think it will be smart casual at most. I like the backless ones the pp suggests here -
