Would you wear these leather pumps for an interview?

With wide leg black trousers, a tucked in silky blouse and Jaeger subtle dog tooth blazer? I’m so off heels after lockdown I feel really tottering and daft in them. I have some loafers but they are more country- style, tan suede type stuff.
@CorrBlimeyGG a bit like these
These would be fine and safe in black

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 21:54

@Sexnotgender

These
These are good!

@TizerorFizz

Try these. All M&S. All are leather. The heeled ones are perfect.

Your brown ones are boat shoes. If you buy something like the attached you will be able to wear them a lot for work.

The first ones are fine, but the other two are awful. I do realise court shoes at work are still the thing in some places (well I didn’t actually but I do now), but I cannot imagine anyone in a big multi-national wearing heels like this.

I know the pics don’t attach, but presume can track back.

Thanks for the help everyone, I’ve decided to order the KG patents to try 🤞

Totally depends on the sector and the role. I think looking contemporary is better in my sector as you look more switched on rather than just following classic rules about what is appropriate or not, especially with work dressing having changed so much in the last couple of years.

@Luredbyapomegranate
You cannot imagine anyone wearing heeled loafers? Why would that be? Perfect for work just about anywhere. Courtroom to company boardroom.

Because hardly anyone I meet wears heels anymore (either in the creative industry I work in, or the multi-nationals I work with), but for the few that do, it would never be an m and s mid heel, not even the barristers… the world has moved on, at least in major cities.

TizerorFizz · 06/02/2022 23:46

I waz assuming the op did want flat and posted flats. The heels are a Gucci copy. My DD who is a barrister doesn’t buy M&S but she’s a very high earner! I don’t like to assume other job seekers are! I can assure you heels are not dead! DD2 wouldn’t wear much else! But she’s young!

TottersBlankly · 07/02/2022 01:21

Oh look - you’ve used up your entire week’s quota of exclamation marks in one post!

liveforsummer · 07/02/2022 07:08

The KG are nice, definitely better than your other options. I agree that outside of working in a court room or aircraft you're unlikely to see those mid heeled courts on anyone's feet

TizerorFizz · 07/02/2022 08:17

@TottersBlankly
Oh yes. I did didn’t I? However at least I tried to answer the question instead of posting something utterly off topic.

bananaleafy · 07/02/2022 18:46

No

I work in recruitment and have had candidates rejected because of poorly judged interview attire. Its so frustrating. You just never can call what the interviewer deems important or not so always play it safe

No matter how casual the company, go smart to the interview .

Never say, wear or do anything that causes them to judge you unfairly.

Unless it's a fashion business, you don't need your shoes to make any kind of impression whether its good or bad

TizerorFizz · 07/02/2022 19:17

You might need your shoes not to put anyone off you.m though. They are unlikely to be listed as a desirable personal attribute or on the JD, but first impressions count.

When I used to help run a young person training scheme, years ago, we had employers say they looked at shoes. Clean and polished was required. I’ve always remembered that. Don’t wear or do anything to put an employer off you. However suitability for the job shouldn’t be based on shoes!

Jeannie88 · 07/02/2022 19:35

No, sorry, interview for me means formal wear. One of the few times I wear heels. X

DillDanding · 07/02/2022 19:52

Sorry, those brown loafers are awful. I love the trainers and your outfit sounds very stylish. I'd not bat an eyelid at the trainers.

I don't think loafers would look good with wide-legged trousers, so if you want something smarter, I'd go for a chunky brogue.

Ballet pumps are the most hideous shoes ever invented, imo.

spidersenses · 08/02/2022 07:51

You'd get away with them if they were black with black soles, it's the colour. It depends on the company also and the field they work in - very corporate no - smaller yes potentially.

ExtremelyDelighted · 08/02/2022 08:03

I think black brogues or black flat loafers, but preferably without the light coloured line around the edge of the sole which spoils the look of them. Definitely not block heels, havem't seen anyone in them for years.

niugboo · 13/02/2022 17:38

Absolutely not to the trainers. And honestly no to the kurt as well. The cork (?) makes them look casual.

When going to interviews ALWAYS assume formal business. You can be underdressed, never overdressed. What you would wear if you got the job is completely irrelevant.

ddshocker · 13/02/2022 17:45

Not a hope

BamberGascoine · 13/02/2022 19:43

Those pumps are lovely (I still call that style of shoe a pump, I know in fashion it isn’t really but I think for me it goes to being back at school and wearing black plimmys, then progressing to white pumps and then at senior school a lovely pir of Dunlop green flash that were actual trainers🤣🤣🤣).

Those heeled courts are not nice though. Functional, smart but there has got to be better choices out there. Also slightly gross that a heel is still considered the best option 😤
