I'm 54, haggard, and currently have quite long hair. I stopped colouring years ago so have white streaks, scattered grey but still brown/golden brown underneath.
I let it grow for the lockdown years just to see if it would (never had really long hair) but now it just hangs there!
The pic is right now.. so hair clean, blasted dry and left..it's quite healthy but naturally quite frizzy and a hint of rain..POOF!

I don't want to go short short (I just look like my Dad plus I have a horrid nose!), might like a fringe, but I wear glasses some of the time and my fringe separates no matter what I do.
Any suggestions welcomed! I don't mind being grey and don't want to colour it, but I'd like to look a bit less wild :D

I really like it

Maybe splash out on some really good conditioner (I got a really good Aveda leave in one in my M&S advent calendar and I love it)

You look fab

I like this, just a shorter blunter version of what you have....

PS. You look great and definitely not 54!

Halfabag · 24/01/2022 21:36

Maybe something like this or the pic from @Rina66. I wouldn’t go too short I think it’d look severe and why would you want that, you look great just now!

Justilou1 · 24/01/2022 22:54

Definitely not short Bob. Agree that it would age you. There is nothing about you that suggests you’re ready for chintzy pastels and twinsets yet. I always think that people are happiest when they have a haircut that works WITH their hair texture and I think that something between these two photos would work for you and suit your “rebel in her 50’s” personality. (I’m working on finding mine, so 💪💪💪) This has the curtain bangs I suggested above. (Saw photos of Goldie Hawn and Kylie Minogue with them too. Also Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin had short ones.) This would work with glasses (same) and the fringe that divides. Also very flattering. (*Even though I think it looks great, I still find it hilarious that so many young ladies are choosing to dye their hair grey in their 20’s, don’t you? Plenty of time for that!)

I love this stuff - need to buy some more and the smell!
RobertaFirmino · 25/01/2022 02:33

You look lovely and certainly not haggard! Do you ever look at The Guardian? They often use a model who I estimate to be in her 70s, very tall, slim and beautiful and you look as though you could be her daughter.

SquirrelG · 25/01/2022 05:44

No advice - my own hair is short - but I just wanted to say you don't look "haggard" at all! In fact you look great.

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 25/01/2022 05:56

Wow you look amazing 🤩 Sorry that's no help to you but you look bloody gorgeous!

SarahBellam · 25/01/2022 06:58

Take a few inches off the end to tidy it up a bit - if you want. Your hair is gorgeous and you rock it.

Justilou1 · 25/01/2022 09:39

Btw, This is my third time on this post and I forgot to say that you’re not haggard. It’s all a state of mind. You FEEL haggard. I don’t know your life and won’t pretend to, but I see a slim woman with AMAZING hair. You are very hard on yourself!

Cam2020 · 25/01/2022 09:47

Unhelpful, but I think you look great too and I like your hair! I agree with PPs who've suggested a trim, layer refresh and playing around with some different products.

Dottychickens · 25/01/2022 09:51

I think you look fabulous! If you took it to just past shoulder length and had some layers put it, it’d really show off the grey (I’m loving the natural grey hairstyles at the moment!) and just tidy up the ends.

BeaLola · 25/01/2022 09:52

I definitely would cut it short

I am nearly your age with fine long hair - I had a really good cut after not having had my hair cut for nearly 4 months and had about 2 inches off it - it's about 2-3 inches past my shoulders and it has made such a difference - it's blunt cut with a little bit of shaping at the front

Best things I do with my hair - I use the find attachment on my Dyson dryer and it comes out really lovely or if I've not washed it I put my ghd glide quickly through it - I mean literally 1-2 mins

Blooming autocorrect !

I put WOULDN'T cut it short !

awesomekilick · 25/01/2022 10:02

Good Lord woman, you and your hair are kick-ass. Keep it long! Haggard indeed [walks off tutting]

PuggyMum · 25/01/2022 10:08

I'm in agreement with many that you look fabulous.

I have similar hair and starting to let the natural colour come through - mine is really thick and does get greasy quickly as I exercise a lot.

Premium products are an investment (and a saving too if you're not spending ££ at the salon!).

I use Olaplex products. They are amazing and also a dyson hairdryer and styler. I got rid of everything else I had on market place. I do cheat if I need to do a quick wash and dry in the week though with normal shampoo and conditioner.

My daughter has bum length hair so a game changer as they dry quick without drying the hair out.

Loveisthere · 25/01/2022 11:27

Agree with pp a few layers but definitely not too much of the length. I think you look great and definitely not haggard. Please send a pic when you have you have been to the hairdressers

Pleaseuniverseplease · 25/01/2022 11:32

Couple of inches off the ends and a good conditioner (I like Garnier Hair Food- Banana)
You look great!

Somebodylikeyew · 25/01/2022 11:35

It’s lovely! Invest in some deep conditioner and you’ll be grand.

DeoForty · 25/01/2022 11:42

I would only tinker round the edges. The overall look of long and greying hair really really suits you. You look, for want of a better word, cool and confident.
