I'm 54, haggard, and currently have quite long hair. I stopped colouring years ago so have white streaks, scattered grey but still brown/golden brown underneath.
I let it grow for the lockdown years just to see if it would (never had really long hair) but now it just hangs there!
The pic is right now.. so hair clean, blasted dry and left..it's quite healthy but naturally quite frizzy and a hint of rain..POOF!

I don't want to go short short (I just look like my Dad plus I have a horrid nose!), might like a fringe, but I wear glasses some of the time and my fringe separates no matter what I do.
Any suggestions welcomed! I don't mind being grey and don't want to colour it, but I'd like to look a bit less wild :D

Oh OP, you are hard on yourself.
Haggard?
Horrid nose?
C'mon now......how do you not see that you look great?

@DaveGahansRealWife Holly Hunter suggestion is awesome

minipie · 24/01/2022 00:23

I agree you look fab. I would just go for a shorter (but still past shoulders) version of what you have now. And some regular deep conditioning once a week or so. Don’t go for one length bob , I think it would look too hard.

ittakes2 · 24/01/2022 00:41

If you are worried about fizz you could have a professional keratin treatment. Makes my fizzy hair smooth for months.

AmberLynn1536 · 24/01/2022 00:57

Please don’t cut your hair into any awful Rachel 90’s haircut! You look fabulous, I love your hair you look cool and quite rock chick, you look effortlessly stylish!

CarrieMoonbeams · 24/01/2022 01:09

I absolutely love it!

If you wanted to give it a bit more texture, how about trying one of those "salt spray" products?

You can get a little one in the "Travel minis" section in Boots if you want to try without much cost (or waste if you don't like it!). It's Toni&Guy sea salt texturising spray, £2.75 for 75ml.

DedalusBloom · 24/01/2022 01:53

Holly Hunter is a great call!

I like the long side fringe- you could try a centre parting and let the fringe fall both sides maybe? Then just a trim on the length.

SD1978 · 24/01/2022 02:05

It needs more shaping between the face and the length at the front. It looks a bit boxy the way it's framing you at the moment with that photo. Otherwise, it looks great and I wouldn't change it.

NancyBot · 24/01/2022 02:13

I wish my hair looked like yours. I wouldn't do anything except a trim once in a while. If it's dry, maybe some kind of treatment.

You look effortlessly beautiful.

Jacopo · 24/01/2022 02:37

I agree with everyone who says you look great. Please don’t take too much off. And at all costs avoid avoid avoid the graduated bob. They’re not good for hair that goes frizzy in damp weather, which you say your hair does. With that type of hair a graduated bob just turns into a mop. And they take forever to grow out.

Fairysocks · 24/01/2022 02:53

I’m going against consensus, but I think you should cut it. Blunt, between chin and shoulders. Lightened around the face. It isn’t practical for your lifestyle. I had hair your length, and just wore it up all of the time. I agree it looks good long, but it would look lovelier shorter. And will show off those eyes more!

Monty27 · 24/01/2022 04:27

Yes it is lovely OP. You're blessed ☺️
A couple of inches off the bottom and a good tidy up is all you need to spring it back to life. Blow dry wildly upside down you have it made. Lucky duck 💗

Cocogreen · 24/01/2022 04:34

I love the colour! Suits your skin, lovely.
All I'd do is take off about 15cm.
Longer hair suits you.

RussiasGreatestLoveMachine · 24/01/2022 04:51

Looking at the thumbnail, I admit, I though ‘hmm, not great’.

But on enlarging the pic, you look great! Honestly. Lovely hairstyle, lovely face.

Justilou1 · 24/01/2022 05:03

I am jealous of your hair. (Mine’s falling out - menopause sux) Anyhow have you thought about curtain bangs and a long bob? I think it would look amazing. (Like Kat Farmer.)

Ceramide · 24/01/2022 05:33

Shoulder length with long layers and a fringe, like Joanna Lumley

I don't know how to load pictures, but I am close to your age and while I was hospitalized for four months my hair grew - it is fine and won't hold a perm or a curl.
Suggest you watch early episodes of Midsomer Murders. The actress who played Joyce Barnaby had beautiful silver hair and it was always in a nice cut - not permed or curled. It changes through the seasons, so watch several episodes from different seasons and you should find one you like. I found one from Season 9.

Thoosa · 24/01/2022 06:01

Just take some length off. You look great. I’m so glad you’re adamantly sticking with that lovely colour.

supperlover · 24/01/2022 06:22

I love long hair up in a messy bun or French pleat. If I were you I'd get it trimmed a little bit and wear it up. Always looks arty and elegant.

Westfacing · 24/01/2022 06:22

You look great!

Don't cut it too short, just a few inches off and bit of layering.

At 54 you're too young to be a rock chick - they're all my age, 60s and older!

Purpleavocado · 24/01/2022 10:01

I love the colour as it is. You look to have some chin length layers and then long layers. I'd cut a good few inches off of the bottom to even it up and just get the ends taken off of the top layers to even it up a bit. You don't look haggard!

IvorCutler · 24/01/2022 10:02

You look wonderful

thebabessavedme · 24/01/2022 10:06

You look bloody great! I'm a bit older that you and I would KILL for hair like yours, you look soooo fucking cool nana! Grin

Beeth0ven · 24/01/2022 10:29

DO NOT GET A CHIN LENGTH BOB. It will age you!!!!

Cut a few inches off so it sits just below shoulder length.

It’s gorgeous, as are you!

MarshaBradyo · 24/01/2022 10:31

You have great hair

Just take some inches off so it’s not so long

But don’t go up to chin level

You have a good look don’t feel you have to change too much

FizzingGently · 24/01/2022 10:51

Love your hair.
I think you’d look even better with a longish fringe to your cheekbones
which are fantastic, by the way.
The overall look would still be loose but it would frame your face better.
Tidy up the layers a little and take off the split ends.
I’ve used Olaplex on my hair which has helped with texture and shine.
Do not under any circumstances go for a bob!
