Business class flight .... help! What do I wear - ideas gratefully appreciated!

DH and are going on a special holiday to celebrate our 25th anniversary. So, we have splurged on business class flights en-route to Jamaica.

We go mid-Feb, and I'm having a sudden confidence crisis as I don't know what to wear..... I want to be comfortable, yet look stylish (and not look like an imposter)
I'm 55, 5'1, size 8 - feel youthful and want to look trendy, not trying.
Any tips? TIA

I fly business for holidays mostly. I can assure you the business pods are private. They have privacy screens. No one would see you apply make up and no one would be close enough to care! Business does afford some private space.
Not on BA in old CW they are not or in fact in some of the 1st in the middle

Who do you fly with?

SoupDragon · 21/01/2022 17:25

Ah... linen. Also known as "crumpled rag" after about 10 minutes.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2022 17:26

I'm going to try and remember to make notes on what everyone is wearing on my flights this summer.

Clearly crisp wouldn’t refer to cashmere! How bizarre that you took my comment to mean that. Obviously it refers to laundered linen, or cotton, preferably sprayed with Milton Brown linen spray before you pack it!
Does Milton Brown sterilise?

TizerorFizz · 21/01/2022 17:43

? Sterilised? You want sterilised clothes?

TheHoptimist · 21/01/2022 17:45

Milton- sterilising fund

Molton Brown- toiletries

It amused me to have Milton Brown

gogohm · 21/01/2022 18:01

Whatever you want, I've flown business class and people dressed the same

DillDanding · 21/01/2022 18:41

I tend to wear Saint and Sophia wide leg jersey trousers with a crisp white T-shirt and a soft grey cashmere crew neck jumper with a pashmina. Simple stud earrings and wedding/engagement ring. White leather superga plimsolls and a tote bag.

This thread should go into classics for this post alone. Grin

This thread is very amusing. I fly business and first and anything goes.

I'm not a crisp white shirt and cashmere pants person, my effort at some sartorial standard is jeans and any old top in the pre-departure lounge and either trackie bottoms or the pyjamas they provide once I'm on board. I'd say most passengers wear jeans and a casual top, or joggers/pyjamas. Perhaps the occasional red trouser and cravat.

Millylovespuddles · 21/01/2022 19:10

I'm loving this thread - I never knew clothes could cause such a stir!
I'm sorted - but probably won't be wearing a crisp white shirt 🤣

Millylovespuddles I’ll be remembering this thread when I fly to Barbados in Feb. With a modicum of envy thinking of you in business while I’m in economy with my knees up at my ears.

I might wear a crisp white T, cashmere, superga and simple studs in case I get an upgrade.

BIWI · 21/01/2022 19:49

I'm still wondering ...

'Crisp white t-shirt- seems such an oxymoron!

DrJump · 21/01/2022 19:52

My all time favourite travel outfit was a long sleeve jersey tunic dress. It had pockets and some detailing so it looked structured. I used to wear it over loose jersey trousers with a scarf. It looked neat and together but was super comfy and because it was tunic dress it meant it didn’t ride up while I was sleeping.

TheHoptimist · 21/01/2022 20:14

Dont wear boots- pain to take off at scanning

slipperyeel · 21/01/2022 20:17

I wear joggers on planes but some of the comments here are really mean girls.
Unnecessary.

phlaps · 21/01/2022 21:44

If you don't mind, which airline and from which airport are you departing, I might be able to offer a few tips Wink

Does clothing choice vary from airport to airport and airline? 🤔
snocopops · 01/02/2022 23:02

If you are landing somewhere hot and humid, I'd wear a long jersey dress and trainers with a long cashmere cardi so you're comfy on arrival and warm on the flight (you'll get socks for the journey) I have been known to change on the aircraft if the temp diff is huge.
The more you dress up the more you'll look out of place.

XpressoMartini · 01/02/2022 23:28

Please don’t get changed in the aircraft’s loos if you have a business ticket. I keep reading this advice on MN but this is such nonsense Confused
These loos are small and filthy. Unless you are late for your flight, you can stop by the departure lounge to get changed if you need to, where you will have access to huge shower rooms or loos which are cleaned after EACH use.

ExpatExpectations · 02/02/2022 04:30

Business class flight just 2 weeks ago and will be my regular route, never once was I told the loo was free, got changed in the very clean toilet, took my make up/lenses out/put hair up at my seat, then about an hour to landing got changed in loo repeat with make up etc in seat. Nothing unusual about any of that, but I have my routine and it works for me.

To the op, congratulations and how exciting the flight, holiday and celebrations will be, just be comfortable and have what you need to hand, as I usually am coming from a cold place to a hot and humid one I will have a change of clothes for the other end, over the years I have always put the change of clothes in a large ziplock bag clothes folded and air squeezed out, flat easy to pack in hand luggage and they are crease free to change into.

You may or may not get an amenity bag dependent on airline/time of flight, but you will find toothbrushes/paste maybe hand cream etc in the loo, again dependant on airline. You will have a pillow and be offered a blanket, or like Emirates have a topper for your seat.

And I wore a mostly white shirt (not crisp!) with black loose pants with a pair of Geox trainers, then changed top and put a pair of Birkenstocks on, at the other end job done!

Just enjoy it and dont overthink it!

IvorCutler · 02/02/2022 08:09

I was upgraded once to business class, so obviously had no idea when I got dressed. I was wearing jeans and a blazer. Nothing fancy. I remember they hung my blazer for me when I took my seat. That was a novelty. Enjoy! I loved it.

Valeriekat · 02/02/2022 09:12

Comfortable layers and slip on shoes. You need to be comfortable and not reveal too much if you fall asleep. Cheap new and black stretchy things.

Dearmariacountmein · 06/02/2022 07:31

Depending on time of year and what im doing when off the plane. My fave combo is midi dress with leggings underneath and long boots with cami, thin long sleaved top and then jumper. Skirt and boots come off and fluffy socks on I can't then rejig too layers to suit cabin temp.

If I need to be less smart I just do joggers top and hoodie with trainers.

SmorgasBorb · 06/02/2022 07:42

I've got a special flight tiara that folds down for easy storage. I tend not to take the sceptre these days unless I'm on Emirates as they have nice spacious lockers and it gets in the way a bit.
Otherwise I wear a Dior ball gown and my ermine shoes but I've noticed that some passengers are stooping to YSL these days. Such a shame.
