DH and are going on a special holiday to celebrate our 25th anniversary. So, we have splurged on business class flights en-route to Jamaica.

We go mid-Feb, and I'm having a sudden confidence crisis as I don't know what to wear..... I want to be comfortable, yet look stylish (and not look like an imposter)
I'm 55, 5'1, size 8 - feel youthful and want to look trendy, not trying.
Any tips? TIA

You dress for comfort on a long haul flight - not 'to be seen'!

Have a great holiday.

goingtotown · 19/01/2022 22:31

Dress the same as you would on economy flights I've never seen Business Class passengers dress any different.

TheHoptimist · 19/01/2022 23:02

I fly business and 1st regularly

Most people wear jeans, tracksuits etc.
Which airline- Virgin give you PJS- in BA lost of people change into their own lesiure suits
No-one dresses up- even in 1st.

I take socks. Shoes that can be easily slipped don when getting out of bed- as loos can be a bit awful on floor. I also take a jumper as often cold. In business I have black baggy yoga type bottoms in cotton and a baggy top that I put on whilst on the ground before take off.

CrabPuff · 19/01/2022 23:10

I am a pro at this!

Carry on a large Longchamp containing summery shoes.
Leggings, longish length short sleeve v neck t-shirt and long cashmere cardigan with socks and short Uggs or warm equivalent.
Face wipes to get make up off, and anti bac wipes for the tv remote and the table and handles and arm rest.
Plenty of moisturiser to sink in while you sleep, your own silk eye mask (and pillow case if you like!). You’ll get earplugs and toothpaste etc. Lip balm also helpful.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 19/01/2022 23:12

There is no dress code for flying anymore. Wear what you like. Be comfy.

Jumpingintomenopause · 19/01/2022 23:17

My go to long haul flight outfit is all about comfort but I still like to feel nice.
I tend to wear Saint and Sophia wide leg jersey trousers with a crisp white T-shirt and a soft grey cashmere crew neck jumper with a pashmina. Simple stud earrings and wedding/engagement ring. White leather superga plimsolls and a tote bag.

In my bag I have a small make up bag, perfume, comfy bed socks, fresh socks for the morning and a space mask.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/01/2022 00:13

@Chewbecca

I wear pretty much the same as when I go in economy!

Last trip I wore joggers (smart, new ones to be fair), a nice jumper and white trainers.

Something like this.

The days of glamorous clothes for flying are long gone in any class.

AlwaysinaFlap · 20/01/2022 00:21

@StarryNightSparkles

I always bloat up so get dressed for the airport then once on the flight. I remove my make up, put my hair up and put on yoga clothes with a nice long cardigan as I get cold. Then i moisturise my hands, face, lips. I drink plenty of water and try to move about as much as possible sometimes people will do yoga. I curl up and watch tv, read a book. My main must have is a good bag big enough to fit everything I need in and close over plus slip on shoes that are comfy. Before landing I wash my face, put my make up on and do my hair. Then change into my airport clothes. I am not a great flyer so this routine keeps me busy and my mind occupied.

Have a fantastic holiday and happy anniversary when it arrives 💐🎉🎉

Some people do yoga ? I've seen arm stretches in chairs but yoga ? I've flown for 42 years . @Millylovespuddles people really wear anything and everything. be comfortable.
Shmithecat2 · 20/01/2022 00:29

Whatever is comfortable. I've flown club for the past 8 years, and never dressed up for it specifically. I've never noticed anyone else do it either, thinking about it.

KosherDill · 20/01/2022 00:33

I don't think it's a matter of whether anyone "will care".

OP wants to mark a special occasion by dressing stylishly. Not everyone aspires to get by with the least possible effort.

I remember when flying was indeed a treat and dressing well was what one did. There's nothing wrong with recreating that feeling.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 20/01/2022 00:43

London to LA often - easy to remove comfy boots or trainers uk side, dark wide leg jersey trousers or jeans, T shirt (not crisp white, it won’t be crisp and possibly not white when you land, I have a blue and white striped, Breton style) Jersey cardi or large shawl. Socks for flight, moisturiser, audible book downloaded to phone, comfortable un wired bra (security scans) no metal jewellery or hair clips (again security) and Birkenstocks when you land, with an easy to carry bag to shove your boots and shawl in.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2022 07:49

The only thing you need to think about is layers as you're travelling from cold to hot (and back again!). Nothing bulky, nothing that will ruck up uncomfortably in the seat/bed.

"Crisp white t shirt" 😂

Amelion · 20/01/2022 07:56

If you want to treat yourself/make an effort but still be comfortable you could get some new comfy wear - some lovely wide leg trousers or leggings and a nice wrap/jumper etc. I’d look at Sweaty Betty, Lululemon or loungewear like this sort of thing:

Black SB leggings, soft long sleeve T and sports bra! White trainers… decent socks so I can take my shoes off!

cjpark · 20/01/2022 08:32

My go to flight wear is a dark tee shirt (avoids drink spillage stains!), some wide leg yoga pants from ME+EM and a ribbed wool wrap which I use as a blanket or pillow on the flight and then shove in a bag on arrival.

@BriansTail

Also saw someone who looked about my age (late 30s) who changed into a pikachu pyjama onesie a couple years ago.
OMG I cannot comprehend the horror of dealing with a onesie in a plane toilet (even a business class one). That's madness!
ttcstinks · 20/01/2022 08:43

Seriously OP; no one will care what you wear, just be comfortable!

ItsRainingTacos · 20/01/2022 08:44

Anything casual and comfortable! Enjoy

maddy68 · 20/01/2022 09:55

Just wear normal travel clothes
I generally wear joggers noone dresses uo to travel just be comfy (and enjoy eating the food !)

FindmeuptheFarawaytree · 20/01/2022 09:58

I always take hard based slippers for the flight so I can be more comfy! I think anything goes really, especially on a long haul.

EileenGC · 20/01/2022 10:11

I wear joggers, comfy T-shirt and cardigan or a hoodie sometimes. Warm socks if your feet tend to get cold, and shoes than slip off easily. Honestly, no one will care.

People might look more dressed up in the lounge but don’t let that put you off or make you feel out of place. Remember, many of them are there before a quick hop to Europe so they’re wearing a suit and tie for a short amount of time. Flying for 8h+ means you focus on comfort, not how you look.

Enjoy business class and the holiday!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 20/01/2022 10:17

A couple of useful tips if you’ve bot flown business before. You can ask the air stewards to hang up a coat of jacket, so if you want sometime nice and Uncrumpled for when you arrive, you can give it to them. Because you have more space, people will tend to change, probably in the lounge or possibly on the plane. Make sure you check in early and make the most of the whole experience in the lounge!

Doubleraspberry · 20/01/2022 10:22

Intrigued by the concept of a 'crisp white T shirt'. It sounds rather uncomfortable.

Scoot75 · 20/01/2022 10:27

My suggestion:

Jeans with a bit of stretch (eg Boden straight)
Leather belt
Long sleeve white t-shirt
Long cardigan
Air & grace trainers with trainer socks
Nice bag
High ponytail
Lots of moisturiser and a slick of lip gloss.
