What's your favourite Diptyque candle?

I've bought cheap candles for so long for so once am going to splurge, everyone seems to love Diptyque. Are they that good? And what is your favourite scent, what does it smell like?

OP posts:
DedalusBloom · 13/01/2022 05:30

Mimosa is nice. I'm a florist and really notice synthetic floral smells - it's very rare to find anything that says it smells of mimosa truly smell like the flower - I can only assume the oil is difficult/expensive to produce.
Their freesia is very accurate too but I just don't like the smell. Not a fan of Baies either.

Pomander, Benjoin and Oranger are all very nice and their Christmas pine scented one is normally a winner ( although the 2021 version smelt like cat piss to me so that was a hard pass!)

Narguile, just honey tobacco perfection. Really strong too.

I wouldn’t recommend baies, it’s pleasant enough but uninspiring and doesn’t smell particularly expensive.

Does anyone know if there is a powdery or musky one? I have the Flocon one but it's limited edition.

RoyTroyAndChris · 13/01/2022 06:41

Tubureuse for me. I love it and I'm afraid to spend lots of money on one I don't like.

Have got a mini Ambre one for Christmas I'm yet to burn - looking forward to trying something new!

I keep make-up brushes / eyeliners / lip liners in the old jars.

I haven't smelt it but they do an Iris, which is often powdery.
TheLadyGrayson · 13/01/2022 09:45

Feu de bois is my favourite, it was amazing to have on over Christmas.

LesLavandes · 13/01/2022 10:03

Figuier

This thread has inspired me. Does anyone know where the best place to buy them is?

Mousses is just lovely

I like SpaceNK (online for me as I don't live in London). If you want to sniff them I think Selfridges and John Lewis stock the brand.
KiloWhat · 13/01/2022 12:42

@DedalusBloom thanks for the hint, I shall see if I can hunt it down

I buy from their website as I get cashback and they give nice samples. But like to check them out in person usually.

Absolutely adore Baies. And the room spray too. My favourite less expensive candles are the St Eval Bay and Rosemary, so good.

DameDoom · 13/01/2022 13:40

@KiloWhat - Opoponax is like a creamy, powdery sandalwood/ vanilla but not sweet. It’s quite a subtle scent.
I have always bought from the website. You get samples of perfume to try and I have had some lovely drawstring bags. Not bought in ages mind so I don’t know if they still do the bags.
I actually prefer the White Company Cassis to Baies - it has a lot more throw and is woodier as opposed to the greenness I get from Baies -although they are very, very similar. If you look Baies, you will like Cassis. I buy the 3 wick ones which are £60 and can smell it upstairs when it’s burning in the living room. Mind you, that is the only high street candle that comes close to Diptyque but I do think it is more sophisticated and grown up than Baies.

MondeoFan · 13/01/2022 14:38

I've never bought one but really want to. I did have the opportunity to smell some whilst in London and admittedly I loved them all.
I always buy candles so really need to try one of these

MondeoFan · 13/01/2022 14:40

@AlDanvers I've just ordered your splurge candle. Love the look of it. Had a voucher to use up

wedonttalkaboutmyposts · 13/01/2022 14:45

Feu du bois! It is divine, smoky loveliness. My husband always gets it wrong and buys other scents and I only really want this one!

Thanks for the tip!

It really looks amazing! I think Boy Smells is becoming my new favourite Splurge candle brand. Hope you enjoy x

theshadeofgreen · 13/01/2022 19:54

I've wanted one of these for ages and this thread has inspired me to take the plunge.

Before I do... can somebody help me with the name of the brand Blush I want to check in pronouncing it right incase I need help in John Lewis Grin

dizzyupthegirl86 · 13/01/2022 20:13

Dip-teek!

Tuberose for me, I’d have never imagined I’d like it but when killing time in an airport and smelling all of them, that called out to me. Didn’t like baies, didn’t get a strong throw from it at all. Just bought ambre, it’s lovely. Feu de bois is lovely as well.

Again, not my usual scent of choice but eucalyptus is lovely.

Foolishnessismyfavouriteword · 13/01/2022 20:22

Have a look at sir candle man on Instagram . He reviews lots of lovely candles 😊

WellTidy · 13/01/2022 20:25

The figuieur one is my favourite candle in the world, ever

I like baies but I’m not wowed by it

A friends had the jasmine one and it was divine

If I ever win the lottery I will buy them all and burn one every day, it would be the height of luxury Smile

Holeyscarf · 13/01/2022 20:27

Figuier or Opoponax.
