Intrigued to know what you do @Sickoffamilydrama - do you own your own business?

Just checking in and catching up. Haven’t been around for a while. Lots of great looks, including people’s old, but great garments (it’s not fast fashion if we wear it for years) 🙂

Today I was out buying furniture and bits for my new sewing room. Hoping and planning to make some clothes, but I’m a complete beginner (I can still justify a sewing room, as my DH may be the most untidy man in the world and he puts all sorts of crap next to my sewing machine. Then there are the cats 🙄).

So today was;
Jumpsuit - Great Plains
Blouse - Baukjen
Sleeveless Jacket - H&M
Boots - Clarks

Yes I do kind of but it's not just me it's a family business, I'm the MD but it was never intended for me to take over I was a nurse and then at the same time as I was looking for a change in direction the business needed someone extra to help it. Even I didn't intend to become MD when I first started but did an MBA and everything fell in place.

It's been a great opportunity that very few get but I became MD just after the pandemic started so not had the greatest first few years 🤣 and working with family can be great and infuriating at the same time!

Blushingm · 20/01/2022 21:35

Navy work tunic, navy trousers, black shoes.......I'm a nurse!

EnoBaby · 20/01/2022 21:39

@AnnieSnap you look incredible!

Sickoffamilydrama · 20/01/2022 21:43

Oh your post didn't show for me before great colours on you @AnnieSnap I want a sewing or reading room.

AnnieSnap · 20/01/2022 21:50

Ahh shucks @EnoBaby that’s lovely of you to say ☺️

Thanks @Sickoffamilydrama I may take time in there even when I’m not sewing 😉

EllaPaella · 20/01/2022 21:59

@Sickoffamilydrama that's really interesting. Do you miss nursing? I'm a nurse too, a specialist nurse but have just embarked on a 3 year Masters as a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner which is terrifying and exciting in equal measures. I have been nursing for 20 years this year and can't imagine a life outside the NHS but do often wonder how life would be if I had done what I wanted to do when I was 16 (to be a journalist). I had some work experience at a newspaper and loved every minute of it... I managed to persuade them to let me go back on Saturdays for free and one of my regular jobs was writing the horoscopes Grin (I can confirm they are made up, sorry)!. I'm not really sure how I ended up in nursing 🤷‍♀️ but I do love it and feel very privaliged to enjoy going to work everyday.
I find it so fascinating finding out what people to and how they got there (I'm super nosey).

Wearing a cardigan I annoyingly bought just with a discount code just before Black Friday but can to reorder for the bigger savings. And then forgot about. This basically my uniform 2005-11 ( I was always a dull dresser) in different iterations of cardigan and jean shapes! If it ain’t broke 😂
Cardigan: jigsaw
Tee under: Sézane
Jeans: Levi via eBay last summer
Shoes: R&B

Hi everyone, I’ve always loved looking at these threads and seeing all the different styles of clothing so I’ve decided to join in. I feel like styles have changed so much over the last couple of years and suddenly I feel lost clothes wise. Anyway, thought this might be a good way of getting back in to the swing of things Smile.

Jumper - Whistles
Leather look cropped trousers - Numph
Suede sock boots - Marks and Spencers

Morning.Off to the orthodontist with the youngest for her braces fitting.Dog walk later.I'm also a nurse @EllaPaella and @Sickoffamilydrama.Working part time at the moment.Used to be on the pedeatric wards then took a 10 year break when the children were small.Did my return to nursing and now I'm in the community. Children's mental health and safeguarding.Love my job.I tried lots of different things before returning and found nothing else gave the same satisfaction and I missed the variety and drama.Really wanted to become a counsellor but couldn't afford the training after the 1st year but I've found a way to do something similar in this role.

Fab outfits @OublietteBravo & @MargotLB!

Struggled even more than usual to photograph today’s outfit well, hence two pics.

T-shirt - Oasis
Culottes - Whistles - too long for me really but very wide-legged, which I love, so don’t care about the length so much.
Boots - Schuh

KiteflyingKitty · 21/01/2022 10:22

Welcome @MargotLB love that look

I still can’t post photos Sad but today I’m wearing a Jigsaw navy wool dress, black tights & chunky grey socks with grey Ash high tops.

I was unsure about the dress as it’s wool but has 3/4 length sleeves so not sure what weather it is designed for (!) but I have put a grey & navy striped long sleeve Breton top underneath and it works pretty well. So I will keep today’s outfit.

Also very proud of myself for putting back a few very tempting items in the charity shops yesterday. I really really need to focus on wearing the clothes I have not buying more. I also like the idea of only having things I love so will only purchase if I absolutely adore something - not just because it’s a bargain

MargotLB · 21/01/2022 11:03

Thanks @KiteflyingKitty and @EnoBaby. Everyone looks great today.

@EnoBaby - I love a wide leg trouser too, so, so comfy.

@KiteflyingKitty I’m hoping joining in with this will help me make more of an effort with what’s already in my wardrobe too and be more creative.

AnnieSnap · 21/01/2022 11:24

Welcome @MargotLB That’s a great look. The jumper especially is gorgeous 🙂

KiteflyingKitty · 21/01/2022 11:31

@MargotLB yes I find this thread helps me to make an effort to actually get dressed (WFH and have a young child…), it makes me more critical of what things actually look like (I wouldn’t normally photograph myself), and it’s made me focus more on why I had 2 wardrobes of clothes but nothing to wear (the answer was because I wasn’t buying clothes for the lifestyle I have, I was still buying clothes for the lifestyle I had 5/6 years ago Sad )

Shannith · 21/01/2022 12:19

Wow this is moving fast! I'll catch up properly in a bit but today I am mostly wearing mud.

Welcome back @KiteflyingKitty. I'm trying to be a bit ruthless with one in one out of my charity shop runs. However, I have about 20 coats.

I actually bought one yesterday for £1 as I was in town and freezing. It's actually quite nice and 50% wool.

Does anyone know what this brand is?

When I'm slightly more presentable I'm off racing as the local track has free tickets for locals. I was vaguely considering going straight from the yard but I had to catch muddy horses. My boots are probably the cleanest part of me at the moment.

Loved your Monki trousers yesterday @EnoBaby, and the culottes today. I really like the way you style outfits!

Love that wrap cardigan @Softpebbles, I've been eyeing some up so that might be a next month purchase as I've found another load of clothes that I meant to sell a while ago and forgot to list. (In my defence, some were my DM's that she offloaded onto me!)

Welcome @MargotLB, great outfit!

Have fun at the races @Shannith! I'm trying to convince DH to go to our local P2P tomorrow but he's not keen. I think he's a bit scarred from when he came fence stewarding with me years ago and there was a horrible fall at our fence. I might pop down for a bit, though. My Dad had racehorses, most of which went on to P2P, when I was growing up so I always try to go whenever I can.

Great outfit @Chrispackhamspoodle.

Love the culottes @OublietteBravo. You and @EllaPaella keep inspiring me to buy culottes and try them as you always look great in them, but I've not found any that work on me yet, sadly.

Good to see you back @AnnieSnap, looking very chic, as ever!

Day at home with DS today. We've walked the dogs and done some baking so far, so very casual.

Jeans - All Saints (£8 on eBay!)
Top - M&S
Boots - Mint Velvet

Popped this long cardigan from Primark on earlier as it was really cold this morning!

Can I get some opinions on this jumper, too, please? I've had it years and it was expensive when I bought it but I haven't worn it that much as it's very thick and too hot for most indoor activities. I'm not sure about the length any more, either. I bought it when skinny jeans were at their peak and it looks OK with them but I don't wear skinnies that much nowadays and I'm not sure if it's a bit long and baggy to wear with looser jeans? I put it on and took it off again this morning. Wondering whether I'm better off selling it and investing in one that I might find easier to style?
