Is £58 too much for a jumper?

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 06/01/2022 11:13

I've ordered a new jumper from Jigsaw in the sale. Original cost £145.

I thought it was around the £50 mark, but it has arrived today and cost £58. I think I must have rounded it down in my head.

It's cashmere blend, looks lovely and is very soft, but now I am beating myself up about the price.

Would you keep it? I'm OK financially, have about 10k savings, own my own car, have a mortgage etc.

I feel off about it which is a shame. It must be guilt but I don't know why!! I'm the type of person who only pays £11 for a haircut Grin

Can someone tell me I can treat myself?

Do you love it?

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 06/01/2022 11:15

Definitely treat yourself. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable price at all. Enjoy wearing it!

SilverHairedCat · 06/01/2022 11:15

I bought DH a jumper for Christmas, cost me £65.

I bought him a hoodie the year before, cost me £60.

Enjoy your jumper.

mynameiscalypso · 06/01/2022 11:15

Can we have a link please? It sounds like a bargain to me!

bunny85 · 06/01/2022 11:17

Oh don't beat yourself up, enjoy it! Totally fine for a jumper, Jigsaw isn't a cheap brand to start with, besides it was on sale! They make such quality clothes and I absolutely love them. Wish I could afford more of those! And anyhow you're allowed to treat yourself, I know I do from time to time. Smile

EducatingArti · 06/01/2022 11:17

If you love it and feel good in it then of course you can keep it!
If it helps, think of it as an investment piece. One great jumper that you will wear a lot instead of 3 not so good jumpers that will wear out more quickly and don't look as good.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/01/2022 11:19

Treat yourself

But anyway it's a very good price for cashmere and should last. Cheap jumpers go bobbly and out of shape, they are a false economy. Buy less, buy better etc - you will save money in the end.

scandikate · 06/01/2022 11:19

You should definitely keep it.I find it's better financially (as well as sustainably) to buy less better quality clothes than lots of cheap clothes which is what I used to do.

corlan · 06/01/2022 11:20

If you love it, treat yourself. As the shampoo ad says - you're worth it!

AnotherMansCause · 06/01/2022 11:21

If you love it, can afford it, it fits & suits you, if you believe you will wear it a lot & it will last a reasonable amount of time, & are prepared to take care of a delicate item like this, then YANBU. I've spent that much on yarn in the past for a single jumper!

DSGR · 06/01/2022 11:22

I pay £80-£100 for jumpers as I like wool and cashmere. They also last much longer in my opinion. Enjoy it and wash it carefully

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/01/2022 11:23

Very reasonable price for Breheny.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/01/2022 11:23

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads

Very reasonable price for Breheny.
Ignore me.

Very easy price for Jigsaw.

DillDanding · 06/01/2022 11:26

£58 for a cashmere blend is an absolute bargain.

I bought a jumper from Hush this week and it’s a wool/acrylic mix and was £89.

Cheap jumpers tend to look exactly that. They don’t wash well, so it’s a false economy.

rookiemere · 06/01/2022 11:28

Just be careful to wash as wool or handwash. I had a lovely Jigsaw jumper that I managed to shrink.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/01/2022 11:29

If you were happy to spend 50, and it's only costing 8 more then you need to have a word with yourself really Grin it's fine!

If you thought it was going to be 35 and it was 70 then maybe ask yourself it's it's really worth double....

But 8?

RadioSixMusicLover · 06/01/2022 11:31

Eh? It is for me, only you know if it is for you. I’ve just bought three at £140 each, I know that’s fine for me. (Not sure I understand this post)

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 06/01/2022 11:31

Thank you all so much. I will definitely take care of it. I've noted its hand-wash already. I really do love it. It's really flattering on.

Also agree, it is better to buy less, but better quality clothes because they last longer.

I've tried to attach a pic - hope it works

Its lovely just be so careful washing it as it will break your heart if it comes out of the wash shrunk (I am not good with jumpers)

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 06/01/2022 11:34

@mynameiscalypso sorry meant to tag you to show you the jumper!

Lovely - definitely a keeper.

I will second the washing thing tho. I bought a lovely teal coloured jumper last year from jigsaw in the sale. First time it washed beautify but the second it shrank a bit and I feel it’s too small now sadly. That was in the machine on a wool wash with wool detergent . So just a word of warning

^^ exactly that!!

If you love it, keep it & enjoy it!!

You're not taking food out of the bairns mouth to buy diamonds!!

OrangeShark27 · 06/01/2022 11:41

I think it's a really good price for a cashmere blend, and is about what I'd spend on a jumper (actually would spend more on a decent jumper)

Personally I find cheap jumpers look good for the first couple of wears but then tend to go bobbly and start to look cheap. I used to be of the mindset that I couldn't afford nice clothes and only cheap clothes, until I added up how much I spent on cheap clothes throughout the year Grin

If you can afford it, keep it.

JasmineGarden · 06/01/2022 11:41

Drying it carefully is important too

Thank you! It's a gorgeous jumper. Looks like it costs far more than £58 too so I think it's definitely a steal at that price.
