Which face oils work for you and do you use everyday

I’m in my 40s, everyday when I look in the mirror I see my tired, dull reflection looking back at me.

I drink loads of water. I don’t really fuss with too many face creams etc… just want my skin to look a bit brighter again.

I tried Clarins oil and it was lovely. Then I switched to a Vit C brightening cream and that was great too. But the last few weeks, my skins looks dull and dry.

I’m going to switch back to the oil again.

I’m just curious if you find face oils work for you? Do you use everyday?

I used Sunday Riley Luna oil all of last year. I've pretty much run out and although I'm very happy with the results I've got a few other products to try out first.

It's very cost effective as it's lasts so long so I'll happily repurchase at some point

RiverSkater · 02/01/2022 03:20

@JMAngel1 I use tret and the skin food so I'm interested in this final step oil you mention! Thank you, where do you buy the avocado oil please?

JMAngel1 · 02/01/2022 06:28

@RiverSkater
I get mine from TKMaxx. It’s a brand called Olive Spa but I think any pure 100% avocado oil would work.

AlDanvers · 02/01/2022 06:40

I have Sunday Riely Juno and CEO glow.

I use Juno as an treatment or at night and CEO glow on a morning. Does take a while to sink in but totally worth the wait

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2022 09:00

I've tried a number, but none I've loved enough to repurchase more than once:
The Ordinary squalane
A rosehip one by Sukin
One by the Ordinary
Clarins
They were all pretty much the same, although obviously the Clarins one looked/smelled better.

I never know if I should put moisturiser on too, and in what order.

I'm using and loving the Vitaskin range from H & B at the moment, and have been wondering whether to give an oil a try from there.

Gonnagetgoing · 02/01/2022 09:18

I don’t use face oils as such every day. But I use lacura CBD oil a few times a week and used to use Neals yard remedies rose oil.

Anjelika · 02/01/2022 09:25

Reading with interest. I'm interested to know whether people are using oils under or over moisturiser too.

I've been using one over moisturiser at night on the nights I use tret but one in the morning under moisturiser - having been reading the Caroline Hirons book where she recommends a couple of drops under moisturiser in the mornings.

bigdecisionstomake · 02/01/2022 10:03

I use facial oil every morning. Currently using the Biossance Vitamin C and Rose oil. I tend to go for fairly light formulations as I follow Caroline Hirons advice and put under moisturiser and if you go too heavy with your oil you can get pilling.

After cleansing, toning and serum, I use a hyaluronic mist quite generously, then the oil, then leave for a couple of minutes while I brush my teeth and then moisturiser.

I would also recommend the Eclat Rose Oil, that is lovely and hydrating and really light if you're worried about oil being too much for your skin.

Another vote for L'occitane Reset. I just bought a tester size from the store for £7 and it's fab. Don't want to see the full size price...

I love Advanced Night Repair one ftom Estee Lauder, but it's also £££ so I stopped using.
I prefer this L'occitane one though.

middleager · 02/01/2022 10:11

I tried a dupe - lilac bottle - from Aldi or Lidl. It was ok, but not great.

OhPeeQueue · 02/01/2022 10:30

Not an oil, but exfoliating, COSRX Snail Mucin and vit C tablets.

I’ve been using the snail slime for a year now. It’s a complete game changer for me. Has brightened my complexion and reduces scarring from spots. When people tell me my skin is glowing, I know it’s working.

middleager · 02/01/2022 10:41

@CoffeeBeansGalore

L'Occitane Immortelle Reset. Use overnight. Makes my skin feel lovely & looks brighter and almost "dewy" with no make up on.

Cheaper on allbeauty.com or eBay than the L'Occitane store.

Thanks. That link is dangerous! Just ordered a L'Occitane miniatures gift set with another 5ml Immortelle Reset serum in, mainly as I want to try the Lavender bubble bath!
itwasntaparty · 02/01/2022 10:47

I use Tropic Elixir and / or Tropic Supergreens. Love them - I have combination skin and these are oil but not oily if that makes sense.

RiverSkater · 02/01/2022 12:33

@JMAngel1 thank you, there seems to be lots online, food and non food but it's all the same I'm guessing! 😊

mrssmiling · 02/01/2022 12:44

Another vote for the Lacura face oils from Aldi. I’m increasingly impressed by Lacura, particularly as products seem to be more readily available, not just as Specialbuys, and many are online. This oil is excellent victoriahealth.com/100-pure-prickly-pear-seed-oil/ - apparently Nigella swears by it. 😁

Welshgal85 · 02/01/2022 15:51

A nice squalene oil is always good, I think The Ordinary do one.

I usually use an oil most evenings in the autumn/winter months. Body Shop do a lovely facial oil as part of the Oils of Life range. I also have some Zelens Power D facial oil and which is amazing but pricey! I only got it as part of a Caroline Hirons kit

DedafalalalalalusBloom · 02/01/2022 17:30

I bought into the "ooo the Clarins oils are amazing" hype a while back, couldn't get on with them and gave up on oils for a while completely as they just used to sit on my dehydrated skin doing nothing.
Sunday Riley Juno was ok but the smell was unpleasant. Rosehip oil has similarly done nothing for me.

The only oil I've got on with and I see a result from is Kiehl's Midnight Recovery which smells lovely and makes me look really fresh in the mornings. It sinks in easily and I can layer moisturiser over the top without feeling too greasy. I have a small bottle of Jojoba oil to use up as well which absorbs well but doesn't leave me as glowy as the KMR

Very interested to hear about the Aldi dupes, I'll be looking out for that. Unfortunately our nearest Aldi has the worlds teeniest beauty section so I'll have to look further afield.

mrssmiling · 02/01/2022 17:50

Worth looking online @DedafalalalalalusBloom - some of the beauty products seem to be online only anyway. Easier than hunting in local store! 😁 www.aldi.co.uk/c/specialbuys/health-and-beauty/skin-care

mrssmiling · 02/01/2022 17:52

The Lacura Rose Oil is online only www.aldi.co.uk/lacura-rose-facial-oil/p/717317533591400 - as are some serums.

FindingMeno · 02/01/2022 17:54

I use rosehip oil periodically and a vitamin c and hyaluronic acid serum daily.

APurpleSquirrel · 02/01/2022 18:10

I use Sukin's Rosehip Oil in the morning, after eye cream but before moisturiser.
In the evening I use a facial oil I make myself (currently consists of avocado oil, grape seed oil, hemp oil, almond oil & tea tree essential oil, lavender essential oil & bergamot essential oil) - I change the oils/essential oils depending on what I want & feel I need. I use that after eye cream, before night moisturiser. Sometimes use a rose quartz roller after the moisturiser too.

Gardeniafleur · 02/01/2022 18:17

I think the thing with oils is you just have to try a few and see how you get on. For years I used olive oil as a cleanser and now it doesn’t work for me, nor does rose hip. But the ordinary Marula oil really does and I love the sound of the prickly pear.

DedafalalalalalusBloom · 02/01/2022 18:55

@mrssmiling

The Lacura Rose Oil is online only www.aldi.co.uk/lacura-rose-facial-oil/p/717317533591400 - as are some serums.
Thank you so much!!
abouquetofsharpenedpencils · 03/01/2022 19:40

Neals Yard Remedies Rose Facial Oil Smile
I use at night.

MrsBean21 · 03/01/2022 23:23

@Gardeniafleur, You’re absolutely right, it’s best to try out a few and see how it goes.

I also probably need to exfoliate more and need more sleep ( very tired looking these days, not getting much sleep)
The clarins oil did initially help and the Vitamin C cream (Asda) even though cheap and cheerful it made a difference. I think using it everyday didn’t help. So I’m going to use 2-3 times a week.

With the Clarins oil, I used this at night and sometimes in the morning under moisturiser. Some days I only used a tiny bit of oil in the mornings and nothing else.
