Wearing lilac

GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2021 14:06

I'm tempted by lilac but wondering if I'm way off the mark for my colouring.
I'm super pale, dark hair, green eyes.
In terms of seasons I'm most definitely an autumn who looks best in greens and browns, rusty reds.
Do you think Lilac would wash me out?
Who looks good in lilac?

Is there any recognition for posters who repeatedly post boring threads no one answers? I'm reporting myself.

I’m not a fan of lilac to be honest,it’s one of those really dated colours you seldom see much anymore on anyone. But if you like it go for it. You probably will suit it, but personally lilac for me, in clothes or decor isn’t very nice.

Justlovedogs · 31/12/2021 14:38

I'm no expert and difficult to say without a picture, but green eyes with lilac sounds good to me. I might be a bit biased, though, as I love all purples (brunette with blue eyes).

allofthecheese · 31/12/2021 14:38

I'm an autumn too and lilac most definitely does wash me out. Autumns generally don't suit pastels. However you could try it and see?

RedHot22 · 31/12/2021 14:38

I look good in lilac. I don’t wear it much but it looks great with navy or grey

Definitely a cool tone so not great for an Autumn I wouldn’t think

Neversaygoodbye · 31/12/2021 14:41

I'm a cool summer, dark blonde/mousy brown hair, green eyes and very fair. I think lilac is one of my colours but I prefer the muted summer colours over pastels, so dark purple, burgundy, wine with navy and variations of blue are my favourites. I always think of monet to describe the colours I favour, more muted. However, I love orange which is definitely not one of my colours.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2021 14:46

It looks good on me, I'm a cool-toned pale blonde. I can't quite bring myself to wear it though. If a colour can be dated, then lilac is.

OP, as you've pale skin and green eyes it might suit you. There's only one way to find out!

GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2021 14:51

Interesting, and thank you for responding Blush

I think it works well with thing I already have like khaki, tan and charcoal grey that feature heavily in my wardrobe.

Im Hoping it could be one of those colours not technically in my palette but that might oddly work.

I like lilac but it does not like me. I can't wear that, beige or mustard either, I look positively sallow. So if beige and mustard look great on you, maybe lilac will?

OP posts:
GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2021 14:55

Yes beige and mustard are great on me.

See if think lilac may secretly be a warm colour. It seems to be on the same vibe as a dusky pink.

I've just bought a lilac top - now I know why it was in the sale: it's such a dated colour! It suits me: pale skin, grey eyes, light brown/grey hair & winter. Plus, it was my late mother's favourite colour, so has sentimental value. It goes well with dark grey & mid or dark blue denim.

GettingStuffed · 31/12/2021 14:58

It's worth trying, lilac is a spring colour ,so it could work especially with your colouring, I bought a sweatshirts dress in Cos and it's a lilac, but it's a greyish lilac and works form. I'm either a spring or autumn depending on the compant.

GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2021 15:06

I'm going to order and try it out thank you.

I used to be religiously Autumn, but I'm finding that a bit of silver and charcoal grey compliments the autumnal colours well in accessories and kid of cuts through the sludginess of my best colours.

I definitely don’t agree it’s dated and not around anymore @Bluntness100. It might have gone through a period of not being popular but it’s very much around again. I see quite a lot of lilac, lavender and similar shades now. (A quick search for lilac on &Other Stories after you posted the link to your top @GranolaHolmes shows they have about 100 lilac items on sale).

As to whether it suits you only you can say - unless you want to post a photo?

It looks good on me, I have fairly light skin and dark hair and green eyes and the right shade works well. I have a couple of things in this colour:

This lilac-pink sweater vest: www.genevievesweeney.com/product/laide-brushed-wool-knitted-vest-heather/

And this jumper: colorfulstandard.co.uk/products/women-merino-wool-crew-crewneck-soft-lavender-female

BusterGonad · 31/12/2021 15:15

Can you link it Op, as it really depends on a lot of things.

GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2021 15:17

The link is the other stories boxy alpaca tee (that is really a jumper)

I don't have anything lilac at all to show you it on.

I'm imagining lilac underneath my rust wool coat would be really nice.

Sorry. My phone is really slow tonight.

BusterGonad · 31/12/2021 15:23

I'm cool toned, pale skin, blushes easily, dark hair and Hazel eyes and I'd wear that happily. I'm not sure an autumn would carry it off but your best bet is to definitely order it and give it a try.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 31/12/2021 15:25

Try taking a photo of yourself in good light and 'colour in' your top in lilac. Hardly an exact science but it should give you a rough idea!

Nobody looks good in bloody lilac. Give your head a wobble woman !
Wilma55 · 31/12/2021 15:27

I'm a sweet pea summer and think it's one of my cool colours.

GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2021 15:27

Thank you for humouring me people.

I have no one in really life to have this sort of conversation with.

I agree that lilac has been having a revival recently especially for teenagers. I've left it late I guess so no doubt old news now.
