Is it just me or are Boden clothes usually a weensy bit disappointing when they arrive compared to how they look in the catalogue ?

Ordered a few things in the sale including a couple of skirts.

One was wool and from the picture I anticipated it to be reasonably thick and at my knees, when it came it was very thin and cheap looking and even at sale price not worth the money so now I am bagging it up to send back. The other skirt is ok, but again a lot thinner than it looked in the photo.

Anyone else experienced this or is it just me ?

I've been very disappointed with their tops (for me) and I bought some absurd stripey trousers once which were just the most unflattering garment I have ever tried on!

But I do like their boys' clothes - I don't think we've ever had any disappointments there.

Myrrhcy · 20/12/2007 11:24

Yes. I've noticed the quality is often not as good as it was compared to 3/4 years ago.

I haven't bought anything ever from Boden

it looks nice but is ££££

nice bags I suppose

EvL · 20/12/2007 11:28

Always found that the cut is just not as it looks in the pictures, must have safety pins hidden on the models or something! Did a clothes swap with friends once, and all teh clothes left over that no one wanted turned out to be Boden!

SantasSmartArse · 20/12/2007 11:28

My problem is that I'm not "Tara, 25, interior designer, likes horses, sailing and sugar daddies" so I still look like lil' ol' SmartArse - a look I'm trying to avoid, quite frankly.

TBH, it'S been a while since I've bought Boden for myself, but the sizing of the mens's stuff suits my DH down to the ground and I've been happy with the bits and bobs I've had for DD2. The beauty of it used to be that it was good quality and I was able to hand it down. It's obviously changed, then. Shame.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 20/12/2007 11:28

Its just very annoying as now I have to go through the faff of repackaging and fighting through the post office queues to send back.

Also bought a pair of shoes which looked lovely and are lovely but are cutting off my toe circulation despite the fact I ordered the right size. The leaflet said that they would stretch, but I'd quite like not to develop bunions in the process so I am sending back and not taking the risk.

I also now tend to avoid any company which doesn't do free returns as a matter of course.

never disappointed with the kids stuff
but frequently with ladies wear.

Myrrhcy · 20/12/2007 11:33

Good point cbcb.

No return courier service in my part of London.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 20/12/2007 11:35

Through Mumsnet you generally get a 10% discount and free returns, but not during the sales period, which is the only time that I can afford to buy stuff there.

Piffle, I may have a few bits of girls boden stuff to sell in the NY. What age is your dd?

MerryPIFFLEmas · 20/12/2007 11:46

thanks btw

ImBarryScott · 20/12/2007 12:32

Got 2 dresses and a skirt, with the intention of only keeping one as I can't justify the extra ££££. Turned out there was no need to choose! i thought the everyday chic dress was quite elegant in the catalogue, but frumporama on me. Ditto skirt. Wool dress nice though.

And I had a spare free returns label.

bellabelly · 20/12/2007 12:41

This thread has just arrived in the nick of time to stop me ordering a lovely-looking sweater in the Boden sale!

MerryPIFFLEmas · 20/12/2007 12:44

I'm awaiting a wool mix smock top, that I know wil make me look as if I am still pregnant...
Why oh why do I bother

moondog · 20/12/2007 12:46

I sent back some wool sailor trousers that were badly cut yesterday. They were £79 too.

I do however like my green gilet that I got in the sale for £39.Am wearing it now and suspect it will not come off me for months and months.

MamaG · 20/12/2007 12:49

oh good God moondog's on a boden thread now. First, a flurry of National Trust recommendations, now this. You need to change your name to moonredsetter

moondog · 20/12/2007 12:52

I have just polished my new Champers glasses too.

(But will it help to know that over the w/end i will be smoking rollies and drinking cider with my Marxist journalist mates?)

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 20/12/2007 12:52

Ah yes the everyday chic dress, have to say some of their patterns this season have been a tad extreme for my tastes as well.

moondog · 20/12/2007 12:53

I don't get all this wrap dress crap either.
They look shit...on EVERYONE.
