Would you buy a Hermes bag if you had the money?

If you had enough money for it to be a viable purchase would you buy a Birkin?

It's supposedly the holy grail but just wandered if you would ever consider if you had funds to do so?

I wouldn’t mind a Kelly 28 but I’m not prepared to buy the second hand prices

PegasusReturns · 19/12/2021 09:57

No they’re too heavy and not very convenient to use: unless you have a surface to put your bag on, opening and closing it is a fiddle.

The fact that I could get a Chanel flap plus a couple of others I love for the cost is also a massive factor.

JustJustWhy · 19/12/2021 09:58

Absolutely 100% not. If I was a millionaire I wouldn't spend more than £100 on a handbag.

SamMil · 19/12/2021 10:00

I had to google the bag (never heard of them!).

It's not really my type of thing, so no.

pinkgin85 · 19/12/2021 10:00

No, I bought the chanel flap (small) this year and that's the maximum I will ever pay for a bag. I saved for ages and always wanted one. Plus I'm not that into any of the Hermes designs, I feel like the people who have them only get them as a show of their wealth and not because it's a bag they really like or want.

KineticSand · 19/12/2021 10:00

Holy shit, just googled to find out what they look like and how much they are.

Decent looking handbag but the prices are obscene. How can anyone want to parade around with that in public? If I saw somebody with one I would assume they were an absolute twat.

Tibtab · 19/12/2021 10:02

Yes but only if I was so rich that £10-20k was literally disposable income. It would be a fun purchase. I have absolutely no chance of this ever happening in my lifetime though.

RussianSpy101 · 19/12/2021 10:04

No. There’s other ones I would much rather have. I don’t see the appeal.

ItsSunnyOutside · 19/12/2021 10:05

No, I don't like the style.

I'm not really fussed about designer handbags, but I do like the Celine cross body bag, maybe I'd buy that!

U8976532 · 19/12/2021 10:05

Nope. I never got the hang bag bug in my DNA, I use a ruck sack for work, pockets for quick trips and a small cross over bag if I'm out for the day and DH doesn't have a ruck sack or big coat!

I don't know why I hate them, I think I've always felt like an imposter, a pretend grown up 😂 I feel the same in heels. I don't even have a proper purse anymore.

I'm quite a casual dresser and whilst I like brands, not designers like that. Makes me a rubbish mum though as it means I rarely have tissues or plasters etc on me 😂

@CornflowerBlue62

I like the look of them, but I’m too careless, ugly and rural to own something that expensive.

Plus I read on another thread that you have to be interviewed before they allow you onto the waiting list, which sounds far too exhausting.

So no. I’d stick to admiring them

Whaaaaaaaat?!?! Is that true about being interviewed? That's bananas!!!
CaptSkippy · 19/12/2021 10:15

No, I would never buy anything for the brand name.

Mischance · 19/12/2021 10:16

Of course not - only idiots are influenced by designer labels.

Designer prices are obscene - how could anyone bring themselves to walk past a homeless person shivering on the street whilst toting a designer handbag?

Booody hell that's a bit harsh

Actually I'm in total agreement with Mischance.

MapleMay11 · 19/12/2021 10:23

Yes. They're not handbags and I've never used mine as such. They're the perfect holdall for travelling.

MapleMay11 · 19/12/2021 10:23

Complete bullshit. There's no waiting list for standard Birkins.

feedmemincepies · 19/12/2021 10:25

It doesn't look like Mumsnet users are the target market for these bags!
I also wouldn't buy one, it's an obscene amount of money for a bag

BillyAndTheSillies · 19/12/2021 10:26

I'd buy a picotin or a Kelly but only preloved. The hoops they make you jump through to get a bag brand new is bizarre.

Corbally · 19/12/2021 10:27

Didn’t even Jane Birkin stop using them because they were uncomfortably heavy?

Hyperion100 · 19/12/2021 10:28

My partner works for a lux fashion brand. After finding out what their margins on production are, I'll never buy any luxury brands ever again.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 19/12/2021 10:32

Probably, but I’d have to have loads and loads of money for it to actually be viable as there are many other very expensive bags I’d also want to buy. I’d also have to have the money for a lifestyle to match otherwise it’d just be rather odd to have the bag IMO. But if I was rich rather than just wealthy then yes, I’d absolutely buy one (or more). I’d have an extensive collection as I love bags. They are works of art.

I’d also obviously have plenty of money on top of that to donate/buy a bench.

WakeUpLockie · 19/12/2021 10:33

No they’re ugly AF.

Same goes for any car that is 20k more than a "run around"
