Would you buy a Hermes bag if you had the money?

If you had enough money for it to be a viable purchase would you buy a Birkin?

It's supposedly the holy grail but just wandered if you would ever consider if you had funds to do so?

No. For me they are a bit predictable and overpriced.

There is a beautiful long-established leather crafters near me. I tend to buy there, or at an Italian supplier who sometimes comes to the county show.

Much better quality and more elegant.

madisonbridges · 19/12/2021 00:56

Wait, what? I just looked up the price. £18,000. My first house cost less than that!

Who is spending money like that. Get a £1,000 bag and give £17,000 to those poor overworked donkeys.

HelloBunny · 19/12/2021 01:01

Don’t like them, too bulky. And heavy, as PP said. I’d buy a leather bag I like, regardless of brand. And not over a thousand pounds...

PlanetNormal · 19/12/2021 01:02

Absolutely not. Designer handbags are not my thing at all and however much money I had I wouldn’t want or buy one.

givethatbabyaname · 19/12/2021 01:29

No. It’s an amoral amount of money to spend on a handbag. It also shrieks its price tag at people who recognise it. Who wants other people to know you’re walking around with a £20,000 handbag? That’s just embarrassing and cringeworthy. Also extremely passé.

Pinkbonbon · 19/12/2021 02:05

Only as an investments piece maybe.

I prefer less structured bags like the balenciaga mini city.

Kisskiss · 19/12/2021 06:14

The Burkin is pretty but really way too heavy, so no

MadameFantabulosa · 19/12/2021 06:23

No. I don’t get the madness of spending a fortune on bags.

Roselilly36 · 19/12/2021 06:44

Total waste of money.

UseOfWeapons · 19/12/2021 06:53

Nope, I don’t even own a handbag!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 19/12/2021 06:57

No because it wouldn’t suit me or my lifestyle. I’d quite like an Evelyne if it didn't have a huge H on it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/12/2021 07:05

No because I find the cost grotesque

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 19/12/2021 07:06

Nope

humourmepleas · 19/12/2021 09:19

I was just interested to hear people's thoughts. I don't have the money right now for a birkin! But always thought maybe in future - but from these responses perhaps I'll reconsider!

It's a no from me. They have very high standards in production but it means that any bag with the slightest flaw is destroyed because they don't want to ruin their exclusive reputation by selling discounted seconds. I get it but I don't want to contribute to that sort of waste.

ZenNudist · 19/12/2021 09:38

No

GettingStuffed · 19/12/2021 09:41

No, I have other priorities for spending. If I buy my ideal bag it would be an Anna Sui Kipling collaboration

TooWicked · 19/12/2021 09:44

No, not because I’d have an issue with spending that much on a bag, but simply because I don’t like them.

I’m not careful with my bags, they thrown around, put on the floor in coffee shops, etc so I tend to buy second hand for my every day bags, I like them to look already softened and used.

UserBot314 · 19/12/2021 09:44

I like that Hermes Evelyne
My budget leans more towards the coccinelle Lea though.

So, @humourmeplease, are you going to treat yrslf?

KaptainKaveman · 19/12/2021 09:46

No. What would be the point?

Corbally · 19/12/2021 09:47

No, they’re the classic Veblen good, leather, and ugly.

GingerbreadandJellytots · 19/12/2021 09:48

Not even if I won the Euro millions

HeronLanyon · 19/12/2021 09:49

Not into expensive bags at all. I did however buy a beautiful on sale functional bag I use a lot a few years ago. Was around £400 prior to sale at around £100. For me £400 if ludicrous money to spend on a nag and £100 is quite a bit.
Every time I use it I notice how lovely, well made and well designed it is. It’s a pleasure to use - one of those small pleasures.
So if I had more money I’d definitely buy some better quality things but honestly never for the brand in fact dislike branded things usually.

GingerbreadandJellytots · 19/12/2021 09:49

Very conservative and overpriced, Just not my kind of thing at all

astorsback · 19/12/2021 09:54

No. I've always thought that despite the quality and workmanship, they looked old-fashioned and rather gauche.
