Is this dress dowdy? I want to purchase for a wedding but Not sure about it. I do love the simplicity and the back

I'm wearing a strappy patent black leather sandals and beautiful earrings

Is it dull? I like simple gowns, I have loads of clothes with floral or prints or embellishments and I just don't like them very much.

Sorry OP but that 2nd dress is awful. It looks cheap and nasty and not flattering at all (and actually it's supposed to be bad luck to wear green to a wedding)

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/12/2021 22:52

The first one looks like a priest's vestments. The green one is better and at least looks like something you'd wear to a celebration.

julietmanchester · 18/12/2021 22:53

I'm loving the comments! I have other gowns I already own, maybe I'll just save my money. But it does feel gorgeous

I did pin this one as well. Don't know about the plunge neckline.

I'm very excited to get dressed up for a change, and buying something new.

Not for a wedding. It's too plungey and too close to white.

That's nonsense about wearing green.
SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 18/12/2021 22:59

If you bought it and changed your mind, could it be returned?
I think if you love it & feel good in it then go for it. Fashion, like art is subjective and if we all liked the same things and dressed the same way life would be boring.
I love the back of the dress and I think a statement necklace and fabulous earrings would work perfectly to balance its elegant simplicity.

What is the best colour to wear for a wedding? I usually do blues or pink, floral, etc

OP posts:
bonfireheart · 18/12/2021 23:02

OP how much does the first one cost if its vintage couture? It reminds me of an abaya and I can get you a nice one of those easily for under £100, maybe even under £50.

There's no such thing as a best colour- just don't turn up wearing a long white dress.(although I wore black velvet on my wedding day)

Neither of the first 2 are "bridal" and both would be fine.

julietmanchester · 18/12/2021 23:06

Maybe I'll just get the yellow dress and wear a floral one I already own for the wedding?

Gwenyth Paltrow in a simple Valentino. I'm just not able to do hot pink.

Or "daring red" that looks hot pink

Ladies can you suggest a dress ? I'm wishing to buy a new something, maybe not for the wedding.

What sort of wedding is it? Are you invited to the whole day?

I absolutely love it. The green one isn't a psych on it.

julietmanchester · 18/12/2021 23:25

I'm the 'godmother', so I do need to look nice, but not loud. I'm sitting at the main table

That's awful ( and not just because it's got Gwenyth Paltroe in it)

I like the first one.

Yes I will be there the entire day, church first and everything after. I will be with the family for everything, as I 'helped' raise the bride. I'm giddy just thinking about it.

I was told to look 'spectacular', so I went hunting for a gown.

OP posts:
julietmanchester · 18/12/2021 23:28

I do tend to dress a bit conservative- colours and fit.

Now when I'm out with my girlfriends; then I can play around a bit.

OP posts:
starfishofbethlehem · 18/12/2021 23:30

I like it but it's a difficult colour to wear - I've seen similar colours look stunning on someone with the right skintone, I'd just look sallow in it.

However is it usual for people to wear long dresses like that for weddings? As someone else said it looks a bit bridal/bridesmaidy
