Hi everyone, I have been MIA for a while, crazy stuff happening this side....

@ChiswickFlo sorry to hear about your mum. Sepsis is really serious and I am hoping she is recovering well.

I did mention previously that I have access to quite a good variety of sample bottles at pretty good prices, so it's a good way for me to add to my collection without breaking the bank too much. BUT they are mostly blind buys. A lot of them I haven't been able to find testers in the stores for (its crazy how few testers they have in store now since Covid).

The Tom Ford Lavender Extreme was not a good buy for me. I usually go for something I know or have tried, but I do take a chance sometimes.

I have JHAG Not a perfume and Jo Malone Tonka and Myrrh set aside. As I have to pay postage I am thinking of lobbing two more in the package (there is a deal if you buy two). JM T&M is my fave fave and I now only have the tiniest 9ml sample bottle, so this 100ml was a great find.

So I wanted to know if anyone has any Zoologist? Every one of these are available, and there are a lot! They are a Canadian house so not sure how available they are to you in UK. I am not in Canada either, so there is no chance of testing or even getting a sample. They are sold as unisex, but I am leaning toward Hummingbird which seems to be a more female scent. The names of these are great, I could be tempted to get the whole range, just because I would love a T-Rex in my drawer

And then I am still undecided about EL Modern Muse Nuit. Nowhere has a sample of this for me to try! My other fave is MM Rogue which I have stocked up on (its been discontinued). I have been pondering over this one for a fair while, hoping to get a whiff somewhere, but it seems thin on the ground here. I am wondering if this too is being discontinued.

We are going into cooler weather now, so I hope you are all enjoying rotating your collection to bring out the Spring/Summer scents. I am not a winter fan, so I do rely on my olfactory senses to keep my spirits up

I agree about Estee Lauder being underrated, they have some lovely fragrances and I need to explore more of them.

Luca Turin doesn't like Spellbound though, he describes it as 'medicated treacle' gives it one star out of five and his very short, pithy review reads like this:

'Powerfully cloying and nauseating. Trails for miles. Frightens horses. Gets worse'

I just have to track it down and test it for myself now! I tend not to agree with Mr Turin, but he does make me laugh at times.

I had a good giggle at this. Now I am on a mission to go test Spellbound again....

Talking about big smells, went to the next town today and popped into Marks and Spencer - somebody had on the most overpowering fragrance. I thought they were demonstrating some new air freshener at first, you could smell it from one end of the Food Hall to the other. I wish I knew what scent it was, but I wouldn't have been able to ask the lady, as just walking past her was like being beaten, slapped and mauled by aggressive fruited woods. Then on the crowded bus home, someone had overdosed their washing powder or fabric softener, and it smelled like wee! There is a laundry product that smells urinous to me, I just wish I could remember which brand.

Estée Lauders are truly underrated imo, they are very well crafted, expensive smelling, but not too costly. I love almost all their perfumes, but especially their orientals and chypres.

SOTD was Shalimar, for a lovely spring day.

at the Turin review.

I have a mini of the old Spellbound, the one Turin would have tested, but I think it's been reformulated now and probably doesn't smell the same. It is powerful! I can sort of see what he means even if I don't agree, it is thick and dense; it's packed full of clove, which would be quite medicinal; there is a tuberose note that makes it a bit bubblegum-y at times; and loads of floral notes resting on an oriental base. Just very 80s imo. I do love it for this time of year with all the flowers and spices, but only in small doses.

SOTD is Miss Dior Originale, for Maundy Thursday. 🐣

It was a heavenly spring day here, warm and sunny. The blossom trees on our street look absolutely beautiful - they are in full bloom just in time for Easter - so this classic chypre was a perfect fit. 🌸🐰🐤

Oops... Forgot my SOTD, which was Knowing, for a sunny Good Friday spent shopping for Easter-y things chocolate! and flowers. 🐣

SOTN is Tobacco Vanille - smells like toasted hot cross buns to me, with added fruit. Had some for breakfast and was reminded of this scent. Reviews seem to describe fruitcake or figgy pudding notes, which does fit, but I get a sort of yeasty smell too. 🐤🐇

I don't seem to have an "Easter" perfume...do any of you?
I tend to base my scent choice on the weather and it's been warm here for the past 2 days...so it's been 4160tuesdays SSOTPE.
I've been sorting my collection...I've had a cull :)
I've now got:
10 x avons
11 x 4160tuesdays
2 x Estee lauders
2 x next
2 x kayali
Then various perfumes like Obsession, molecule01, m&s, prosody...
And 5 x pp dupes
So 40 all told. Probably about 40 samples too
I am now on a perfume buying ban until I've used a few up!!
Honestly! ☺️

SOTD Diorissimo. I can tell this is floral, but not which flower, if that makes sense? Taste-wise I know if things are sweet or savoury, and can tell if something is spicy.

I was up early to make Danish pastry for the Tarte Tatin for our Easter meal today. Apparently you're meant to chill it overnight 😳 ... oh well.

Sotd will probably be Lemon Tree by Perfumer H. It's my current favourite and from a decant. I would absolutely love a bottle. I now have 3 Perfumer H perfume bottles all bought 2nd hand & very recently ☺️. I've always suspected I would love these Lyn Harris perfumes, but access was so tricky, unless you live in London.
