Next cashmere is lovely

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2022 18:50

I have the Gallivant sample set, but haven't got round to testing them yet. It's on my perfume to-do list.

My bottle of Jungle Elephant arrived today. What can I say? I smell like a spicy chai latte - and I hate it. I don't think it'll grow on me. I like the warm spiciness, but on my skin it has unpleasant sour milk undertones. I rarely make a mistake on a blind buy, but I have this time Sad I might see if I can layer it with something else to get rid of that sour note, otherwise I'll be selling it on.

Cantonet · 21/03/2022 21:14

@Dramaalpaca Elephant is the only perfume I've ever tried that makes me feel nauseous. I thought it was the cinnamon in it initially but I'm really not sure. But it reacts really badly with my skin for some reason.
Sotd is Eau d' Iparie by L' Occitane . Green ambery incense for a chilly day here.
@Judy I hope you feel better soon.

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2022 21:44

@Cantonet I'm glad it's not just me!

FestivelyScent · 21/03/2022 22:23

SOTD is pp Ambre Orient. Powdery amber, patchouli and sandalwood.

@DramaAlpaca Sad Your experience of Jungle Elephant doesn't sound good at all - I can totally see why you don't like it. It does have cardamom, clove and cinnamon - which I suppose explains the chai latte effect you describe, but I only get raisin (prunol) and a rich bourbon vanilla in addition to the above. I honestly find it such a cosy, comforting perfume for when it's cold outside and I'm just staying at home relaxing. Sour milk sounds really horrible - if I smelled even a hint of that, it would totally put me off too. 🤢

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2022 22:32

@FestivelyScent it just goes to show that fragrances are different on everyone because of the way that they react to our skin chemistry. It's one of the aspects of fragrance that I find so fascinating.

FestivelyScent · 22/03/2022 11:50

@DramaAlpaca Exactly! I find it fascinating too. Take strong floral notes (particularly some roses), they seem to smell amazing on others, but when I try them they just smell sour on me - like balsamic vinegar. 🤷 I'm still looking for a good rose - patchouli that doesn't turn to salad dressing the minute I press the trigger. 🥗 🤣

Cantonet · 22/03/2022 16:25

I've just received a very slightly used bottle of Perfumer H Gold. It's so gorgeous on skin. Now I really need a bottle of Under the Lemon Tree.
I feel rotten today - all headachey & lethargic after spending all weekend away on university tours. I've probably picked something up from the lecture theatres.

FestivelyScent · 22/03/2022 17:56

SOTD has been Chanel PM - crisp and cool because it is warm and quite stuffy indoors. The opening is a nose clearingly bracing citrus, followed by an aromatic and herbal lavender, and a chypre dry down subtly warmed by wood notes. This scent feels like the olfactory equivalent of spring cleaning; it is so clear and bright and almost chilly, like how a house always feels slightly cold after its been thoroughly cleaned and scoured. Perfect for a bright warm spring day. Smile

FestivelyScent · 22/03/2022 17:59

Hope you feel better soon @Cantonet. Flowers

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/03/2022 18:25

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning. I have bloody Covid, confirmed by PCR - still negative on LFTs though.

CorneliaStreet · 22/03/2022 18:34

Oh no, Judy , hope you aren’t feeling too bad.

ChiswickFlo · 22/03/2022 18:37

Sorry to hear that @Judystilldreamsofhorses

Sotd Shazam!

FestivelyScent · 22/03/2022 22:25

SOTN is Mitsouko, because it has become quite chilly this evening, and I suddenly feel so tired and exhausted, and this is comforting. Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Sorry to hear it's covid @Judystilldreamsofhorses.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2022 00:36

Snap @FestivelyScent, I'm wearing Mitsouko too this evening. It was Mon Paris during the day, but tonight I felt I needed a Mitsouko hug.

Hope you both feel better soon @Cantonet and @Judystilldreamsofhorses Flowers

Wearing MH Secret Gardenia today. The Perfume Society Eau So Fresh box arrived yesterday, some lovely stuff in there, looking forward to trying them all properly.

ChiswickFlo · 23/03/2022 17:00

Sotd 4160tuesdays tarts knicker drawer

FestivelyScent · 23/03/2022 17:37

SOTD is Devin - bitter green; the mossy and earthy smell of petrichor; and, even though it's not a listed note, the green floralcy of hyacinth. Smile

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2022 19:04

SOTD is Dolce.

@ChiswickFlo in my recently ordered haul from 4160 Tuesdays there's a sample of Tart's Knicker Drawer. I just had to get it, with a name like that Grin

FestivelyScent · 23/03/2022 19:08

Devin is very fleeting, and I wouldn't repurchase it because it has no longevity to speak of, but while I have it (and it is a big 100ml bottle that will last ages) it is very enjoyable. My favourite stages, the damp earth and hyacinth bowl notes, are through in just over an hour, but the leathery, mossy dry down is light but perfectly pleasant. Will have to choose something else for later, though.

Tart's knicker drawer really is a quite fabulous name for a perfume. Grin

ChiswickFlo · 23/03/2022 19:35

It's a great name isn't it?

Not my usual type of fragrance at all being a powdery lipstick rosey violet scent 💜

Great for a lovely spring day 💐

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2022 21:16

I'm often asked at work what fragrance I'm wearing. I'd just love to see the looks on my colleagues' faces when I oh so nonchalantly announce 'it's called Tart's Knicker Drawer, actually' Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/03/2022 23:12

SOTD Byredo Gypsy Water, but might as well be chip fat 😭
