Hello 👋 Shalimar I’m new here, I know nothing about perfume except I like it. I popped in here to ask for a recommendation to replace the spendy Tom Ford Oud Wood and stayed.

Thank you everyone for your very warm welcomes. I'm a novice too @FormerlySpeckledyHen, I know what I like, what I don't, but I'm still learning about notes, accords and niche brands...my budget will constrain me unfortunately, but my plan is to put a bit away regularly and buy a perfume every few weeks.

Thank you for the fragrantica recommendation pp, I love it. I'm finding it every useful for noting perfumes I like the sound of. I wish there was an app, anyone know if there are plans for a fragrantica app?

My copy of Turin and Sanchez's a-z of perfume arrived yesterday; what a tome. I'm particularly loving their scathing reviews

What kind of writing do you do for Swiss Arabian @MissBattleaxe is it product descriptions?

Today I'm wearing Shaghaf for women, also by Swiss Arabian and another blind buy. Also not so sure about this one, it's a bit pedestrian for me.

btw what recommendation did you get as a dupe/substitute for Oud Wood? @FormerlySpeckledyHen

I've received my Perfumer h samples.
I'm blown away by Gold - a winter spiced seamless citrus with Geranium & Lavender.
I think it's literally one of the best perfumes I've ever tried and definitely full bottle worthy, which is a rare occurrence these days.

@MissBattleaxe ha! I've read the sample, also v good. I decided to hold off on buying as I felt I could put the money towards buying another perfume instead :)

Shalimar these were the recommendations. I bought Shazam! blind and love it. Also bought some Tauer samples including Laddm which I really really love and will buy .

Not tried the others yet.

LOVE The Perfume Companion which I got for Christmas 🎄 along with a 4160 discovery set.

Unfortunately I'm not in the UK and 4160 Tuesdays don't deliver to my country :(

Your review of Gold has me sold @Fferny1 , the notes are everything I’m looking for now as I’m enjoying the fragrances I have and being pickier about new ones. It is straight on my january ‘lust list’ and may be the silver lining to a london trip to get my work laptop resussitated (victim of an update that updated its status to dead).

SOTD is Coco. The orange, cloves and other spices are perfect today, as we are shortly going to be eating the turkey that we were supposed to have sometime over Christmas but missed due to illness. 🎄❄️☃️

SotD is Marquis de Sade Attaquer Le Soleil ELd'O. Or, to be more precise, this is SoYesterday, as it has a nuclear half life. Yesterday it was all about a fresh spicy labdanum and green incense. Today there's a softer, more floral cistus base still very much present - made me think of 4160's Court of Ravens.

Tom of Finland pulls off a similar trick of shape shifting across a 12 + hour trajectory. Yesterday's masculine birch is now a sweet milky, powdery presence.

Am really re-evaluating this House. I read too much into SM.

Bloody hell, opal, I hope it’s an easy fix. In slightly less dramatic damp news, DP just threw a full mug of tea over the living room carpet - he must not have had a proper grip when he picked it up. One of those giant Cath Kidston ones too!
