Something I can buy a sample of? I've made a note of sample sites listed on another thread, but unsure what to try. I'd like something warm and comforting, suitable for winter. Maybe with a hint of ginger or cinnamon? I used to like Flowerbomb, but after a while found it too sweet. Also used to wear JPG, classic. I quite like Armani Si.

Any suggestions welcome!

Chanel Allure Sensuelle is really nice

XingMing · 06/12/2021 21:12

Everything you post makes me think you'd like MMM By The Fireplace. It's very cosy and warm and soft for winter evenings, but mulled wine and spices. I don't know if there's a PP dupe, and you won't come across it at Boots, but a perfume sample operator should be able to give you a 2ml sample for less than a fiver to try.

hivemindneeded · 06/12/2021 21:40

YSL Opium? That has a lovely spicy smell.

Mwnci123 · 06/12/2021 21:45

I think Flora by Gucci might fit the bill-
warm, floral, but not sickly.

mrshoho · 06/12/2021 23:01

Another vote for YSL Black Opium.

ImNotCrazyIWasTested · 06/12/2021 23:08

I love Armani she! But since my daughter's have been able to reach it (and spray all their dolls and teddies with it 😡)I swapped to Define by next, it smells exactly the same (doesn't last as long though) and it's £14 for 100ml bottle!

tobee · 06/12/2021 23:33

I've been buying a few samples from eBay recently. For eg I got Tom Ford Lost Cherry. I look for the best price in a trusted seller and try to have a price limit.

WeirdArchitecture · 06/12/2021 23:37

i really like the sound of Collette by Tocca, does anyone else have experience of it?

Mrsbrownsbuoys · 07/12/2021 16:36

I haven't managed to get a sample of Collette, I like the sound of it too.

Ooh I've just remembered. I've got a small bottle of 4160 Tuesdays
A Walk in the Forest. It's described as smelling like a forest but I think it's got a sort of toasted coconut vibe going on. Not sure if that's too gourmand rather than just sweet?

Mrsbrownsbuoys · 07/12/2021 22:16

Coconut is good Smile I'll have a look for it, thanks.

YSL Libre and Valentino Voce Viva are stunning. Voce Viva reminds me of Black Opium, but slightly edgier. Also smelt Jimmy Choo “ I want choo” recently and it’s lovely.

Mrsbrownsbuoys · 08/12/2021 01:11

Thanks, I'll have a look for it.

Hopefully some samples should arrive soon. I'll report back!

Tocca scents are lovely. I find they don't last 5 minutes though.
Scandal by JPG might be up your street? Honey top notes which dry down into a sort of caramel base.

tentative3 · 08/12/2021 06:34

I have Clean Reserve Skin, not sure if that would fit the bill.

Sweetpea84 · 08/12/2021 06:47

I love Alien by Theirry Mugler. Not sure if it’s what your looking for but it’s nice 👌🏻

Lushplease · 08/12/2021 06:52

Love Dior Addict for winter.

I also use Ghost Deep Night throughout the colder months and find it warm and comforting.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/12/2021 07:43

Les Senteurs do samples of everything they offer, go to the drop down menu on any perfume to buy a sample first. For wintry perfumes, I’d recommend Serge Lutens www.lessenteurs.com/collections/serge-lutens
Try Five O’clock Au Gingembre (gingerbread)
Fille en Aiguilles (pine needles, like a Christmas tree)
Santal Majascule (sandalwood and spices)

Also, 4160 Tuesdays do samples too - try Captured by Candlelight, Another Doe in the Snow, and A Kiss by the Fireside.

Mrsbrownsbuoys · 08/12/2021 11:37

Thank you. Sadly those samples are out of stock at the moment, but I'll keep checking Smile

by the fireside is lovely. I have a dupe of it rather than the original, but its really warm and cosy.

Also Lush - Vanillary comes out this time of year. Its got more depth and spice than most vanilla perfumes, and its been one of my staples for years now. I hope they never discontinue it. Much easier to wear than a lot of their perfumes

indiesearcher · 08/12/2021 13:10

Sounds similar to my taste OP (loved both Flower Bomb and Touch of Pink when I was younger.

I'm back on Chanel Chance, Boss Orange (for summer really though), and have just had a sample of v expensive 'Dear Polly' by Wilhelm in my Liberty calendar. I think it's the holy grail, sweet but cosy/sexy and I've put a full size bottle on my Christmas list (not cheap but they do a travel size too).

indiesearcher · 08/12/2021 13:13

Ooh I'll check out The Lush vanilla one too sounds lovely

FreeBritnee · 08/12/2021 13:14

This sounds like exactly the thread for me. I’ve never found my signature perfume. I like the woody, exotic, dark kind of perfumes that also have some sweetness.

I’m convinced I’m one of those people where every perfume smells like cats piss when it goes off. I even sprayed some Chanel no.5 on my wrist today as I’d never smelt it before. It smells like old lady and talc. Very disappointed considering it’s iconic.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 08/12/2021 13:15

I’ve found, after years of buying expensive perfumes, a really good, cheap go-to for the day and it’s smells how I imagine what you’re describing you’d like.
It’s Love by Next. I think it’s £8 for a bottle and I keep one in my handbag.
I’ve a basket full of Diors, Marc Jacobs, YSL, Gucci but that cheap next one is my staple.
