Evening out - plus size. Help!

I'm going on an evening out. It's not a dress-up-to the nines type affair, nor a casual drink with mates but somewhere in between.

Kinda the smart-casual of evenings out I guess.

And I don't know where to start! My social life has been pretty much zero since lockdown except some lovely pub meetups with friends where I just wore my usual jeans and long tops.

I'm size 24, with most of my weight on my stomach so on a normal day I tend to wear oversized t-shirts / shirt dresses / jumper dresses / tunics with jeans / jeggings / tights.

I want to wear something nice, but no idea - what do people wear on a night out these days!

Definitely need some new footwear for a start, but haven't worn heals since before lockdown and no wish to get back in them! A nice pair of boots maybe?

How about a wrap top? I think they are really flattering if you're larger. Something like this?

Have a look at Live Unlimited, expensive for what it is when full price but they have some decent sales. My current is a vest top with chiffon overlay and skinny jeans and ankle boots. I have short legs so nervous of PPs shimmer suggestion but may well give them a try. Ill look for some links...

I bought this in black for work Xmas drinks. Will wear with black jeans and ankle boots. It comes up big so a size 22 should fit if you're normally a 24. I'm an 18-20 and bought it in 18. I'd prefer it if it was a bit smaller tbh.

I really like this on the model, but I can't have anything with any kind of waist. I'm round!

I like that! Would probably go for it if it was in my size. Shapeless, flowy and goes with jeans is good!

I really like this too - but I can't wear anything this shape any more, due to being round and bulgy. The top ends too short for me.

I need tops that come down below the crotch at least.

Go to John Lewis and book an appointment with a personal shopper. I went to the Newcastle store and they had Live Unlimted in (as suggested by a previous poster). Not all
JL stores have it in or cater beyond a 22. I purchased four lovely tops from this range but hadn’t purchased anything for ages and had never heard of it before. I am also plus sized and 5’11’ and found the fit generous and length good.

Something like one of these might be nice and flattering with a nice necklace and earrings and you can wear with jeans or dress up with dressier black jeans or trousers.

Gah! Annoyed with myself for getting so fat! It's getting harder and harder to find clothes!

Try SimplyBe, they have loads of different jeans and nice tops (and wide feet boots too). I’m a similar size and about 70% of my clothes are from there.
ASOS have a great “curve” range too. Although they are so fashionable it is a bit more got and miss as to what I’d feel comfortable wearing.

So, here are some things I've looked at, and my reasons for talking myself out of them! Am I overthinking?

OK, first up, I like this but I think it's probably overdressed for the event.

I love this blue top, it's the right length for me and I'd dress in much the same way as the model - maybe slightly smarter.

But I'm worried it's too understated?! What if everyone else looks very glam?! (I'm not very good at glam!)

I like this, again a good length, but I'm worried it'll make me look like a round Christmas bauble?! What do you think?
