I've just treated myself to a few bargains from Gemporia. I don't usually do big flashy stones, but fancied something a bit different and these did not disappoint. Not to everyone's taste I know, but I love them! Please show me yours Smile

I love my ring that my husband bought me on holiday in Devon this year. It's a large, polished piece of leopard skin jasper, in a heavy silver mount.

This was my mum’s engagement ring. It’s very thin now, and the local jeweller told me it only has a couple of years left in it before it will wear through completely. I’ll be devastated - I’ve worn it ever since my mum died.

Find another jeweller who can rebuild the metal for you. Mine was done years ago an antique ring which wore away
SnoopsCaliforniaRoll · 02/12/2021 23:31

@RedCarsGoFaster

My emerald and diamond ring was a tax on DH for undertaking a huge project for his work. I don't work there. If anyone knows what to call it, I'm looking or matching earrings! I bought it "vintage" but I think it's hallmarked in the 90s.

The tiny diamond and silver ring that stops the other one falling off was a gift to myself.

This is such a beautiful ring Smile
RedCarsGoFaster · 03/12/2021 06:22

@VenusClapTrap a competent jeweller will be able to help with that. Whoever you saw can't be one who actually makes any jewellery. Lots of places will be able to work on it for you!

I had a similar problem with an antique emerald ring, it was paper thin.

You need to find a jeweller with a workshop. They can cut the shank of the ring off and replace it with a new one. It will probably have to go to an assay office, so won't be done in a couple of days, but will be as good as new when it's done. Just make sure you get it sized properly. Smile

Mine was a birthday present to myself too. Hammered yellow gold with a beautiful opal (it’s hard to photograph, but it has all the colours in it). I don’t wear it all the time because I’m clumsy and I do a lot of gardening and cooking.

There are some beautiful rings on this thread! I'm currently waiting for the small independent jeweller near me to open so I can pick up a ring I've had made from two inherited rings.I'm very excited!

VenusClapTrap · 03/12/2021 09:42

The jewellers did say they could remake it. But in addition to a new shank it would also need new claws, as they are also very worn and it’s an unusual setting. All that would remain of the old ring would be the diamonds, and then it wouldn’t feel like my mum’s ring any more. Sad

Ddot · 03/12/2021 09:47

The claws can be rebuilt but the setting will not be touched and if you want the gold can be incorporated into shank

RedCarsGoFaster · 03/12/2021 09:48

@VenusClapTrap I'd definitely get a second opinion on that. You might find that on resetting it all, it's no different to a refresh when you wear it. It would still be her ring, just safeguarded for the longer term. It's absolutely beautiful.

Ddot · 03/12/2021 09:49

Opals, emeralds, be careful hand sanitizer can be drying

Thatsplentyjack · 03/12/2021 09:54

I've asked for this one for Christmas after someone posted about buying their dd one for her birthday.

@Thatsplentyjack I bought that ring for myself after reading that thread 😁 it's lovely, really pleased with it, although I wear it on my left hand.

Thatsplentyjack · 03/12/2021 10:28

@LumosSolem, 🤣 brilliant. That's really lovely. I'm getting the silver one because all my jewellery is silver so I hope it looks as nice. Is yours the real diamond or cz?

LumosSolem · 03/12/2021 10:30

@Thatsplentyjack mines just the CZ (couldn't justify spending more 😁) but I'm really pleased with it. It's very delicate and pretty

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/12/2021 10:39

Mine is just a plain gold band. Was my Nan's wedding ring

Thatsplentyjack · 03/12/2021 10:42

@LumosSolem, yup, I thought the same. Well that's lovely, I'm looking forward to getting mine now.

cptartapp · 03/12/2021 10:57

This was my mum's, bought in Amsterdam.

It's actually a pinky stone but looks very dark today maybe because I'm wearing a lot of black
