@AnnieSnap no you get used to them really easily. If you are serious then get an interchangeable set like these? They were my present to myself this year and I've used them so much. YouTube have loads of tutorials but honestly now using normal needles feels wrong ( you can knit flat with them too)

Sooverthemill · 30/11/2021 19:27

@AnnieSnap this is Percy who is 75% poodle.

Hi all I think I've commented on here once or twice possibly under another name.

Anyway can you stylish ladies advise?

I feel like I've lost my way way with style I feel fat and frumpy. To be fair I am fat! Im late 30s, 5 foot tall and size 20. Large tummy /csection overhang from multiple csections. I used to wear frugi / seasalt dresses, thick tights and boots but now thanks to lockdown I've lost my way, put on 3 stone although slowly losing and live in gym leggings hoodys and trainers. To be fair I am quite outdoorsy with my toddler most days so these things are fine we spend most of our days in the woods.

However toddler will be at part time preschool come jan so I'm looking for ways to get back to me. I've looked through this thread and there's so many outfits I like that I wouldn't have the confidence for or know what goes with it.

Uuurgh uurgh uurgh

I'm looking at volunteering in school in the new year so something that sort of style would be good

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 30/11/2021 19:32

I'll try to put some pics of my current "style" but mirror is proving tricky as don't want it to be outing with the inside of my.house 🤣

PennyOnThePlusSide · 30/11/2021 20:16

@Plantsandpuddlesuits I am also on the plus size side of things!

I've had help in the past by starting a thread about my style (or lack thereof) on here before. Might be worth a go? Everyone here does look v stylish too though.

Sickoffamilydrama · 30/11/2021 20:28

You've reminded me I want to learn to knit more than just a scarf although I can't even remember the basics.

Navy tights : Snag
Boots : Sainsbury's - on the hunt for new brown flat (ideally knee high but not riding) boots if anyone has any suggestions?

@Sooverthemill they look rather intimidating. I’ll have to look into it further. I wouldn’t want to spend too much until I can be confident that I can use them without my finger joints seizing-up! I thought crochet might be better, but I’ve never done it. I did go so far as to buy a crochet hook. I’ll get it out, put on a YouTube tutorial and have a go 🙂

@Plantsandpuddlesuits I am now a size 16, but I used to be a size 20. I’d suggest thinking about what colours you love and wear them. I’m a psychologist and the psychology of colour is a real thing. Wearing something in a colour we love makes us feel good. Ditch the black, unless it’s accented with a colour you love. People think it makes them look thinner, but we are the size we are and it can make us look and feel drab. Then, don’t wear lots of loose stuff, if like me, you are blessed in the boob department, loose garments just hang wide from them and make us look bigger. Instead, I’d suggest figure skimming clothes. Skater dresses are beautiful on a curvey figure. Then there are lovely figure skimming jumpsuits. Do come back, tell us what you think and what you have bought.

@Sickoffamilydrama I love that red cardigan. I have never looked at Free People. I’m off to have a look now.

AnnieSnap · 30/11/2021 20:53

@20FlowerPower I love that dress on you, but I do have a weakness for Other Stories 🙂

EllaPaella · 30/11/2021 21:01

Welcome @Plantsandpuddlesuits 👋 Everyone is welcome here, all shapes and sizes 😊
Are you on instagram? I have a few people I follow for inspiration whose style I really like. I wear a uniform to work so most of my wardrobe is casual wear with a few things for wearing 'out'. I try to match my wardrobe to my lifestyle which is pretty casual.
Also if you are on facebook 'does my bum look
40 confidence bible' is great for seeing real people looking really stylish in clothes that don't coat a fortune.

I was worried about this and then realised that if someone knew my bedroom & me that well to recognise me then they are close friend/family so I don't care if they recognise me.

But obviously entirely up to you.

I am by no means a perfect body shape and have a pouchy stomach thanks to pregnancy number 3 but I love clothes and don't care anymore Wink

Sickoffamilydrama · 30/11/2021 21:31

That dress looks great on you @20FlowerPower really shows off your figure.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 30/11/2021 23:08

@AnnieSnap thank you. I love the yellow tights!I would love to have a standard poodle one day.I've got a labradoodle at the moment but most of her traits are poodle. She's not like a lab at all.Not fussed about food, high energy, smart and can't keep her out of water.@Sooverthemill your dog is lovely.
@EllaPaella I'm going to look at that facebook page for inspiration too.

AnnieSnap · 30/11/2021 23:32

@Sooverthemill She is lovely 🙂

@Chrispackhamspoodle I’ve had 3 Standard Poodles. They are wonderful dogs, but high energy, especially in the first 4 years. I lost my last old girl (dog of a lifetime) in 2014. DH and I had both retired by then (I was 55, he was 61). We decided, since dogs are quite tying and we could go off spontaneously not being tied to work, that we wouldn’t get another dog when her time came (predictable because she had cancer). It quickly turned out that there was a big hole without a dog. Much as we would have loved another Standard, because of course they are a long term commitment and we both already had arthritis, we decided against it just in case we couldn’t always give them all the exercise they would need. So we got a Toy Poodle instead, then a second one 🙂 The first photo is my lovely, much missed Stella. The other two are our Toys.

This is a lovely outfit!

Sooverthemill · 01/12/2021 09:22

@Chrispackhamspoodle @AnnieSnap oh well poodle talk! All of our dogs have been labradoodles and I've also fostered. Currently we have old boy Luca who is typical 50/50 and shaggy ( and moults like there's no tomorrow) and is all Labrador except he's not fussed about food. And we know we are at the end of his days. Percy is a labradoodle crossed with standard poodle and is all poodle, high prey drive, skittish, loving, rubbish at catch ( is that poodle?), loves the water etc. I adore him too. But his coat! OMG so much work. And in April ish we are on a list for a standard poodle probably silver or silver beige that we intend to train as an assistance do for DD. The breeder will help us choose a suitable puppy and if there isn't one we will wait for the next litter. Percy was meant to be an assistance dog but he's not focussed enough, easily distracted etc. but he jumps on DDs bed when she is in pain and gets me when she's crying. And he makes her smile every single day. Poor Luca can't make it up the stairs. Probable mum attached, it's taken almost 2 years to find a suitable breeder and obviously it may be longer to get the right puppy

I've always loved Poodles but DH was a bit of a snob but now we have basically poodle Percy he's a convert

Also almost exactly 13 years ago baby Luca

@Sooverthemill we are looking into getting an assistance dog too! One charity I looked at though was £13k which we can afford but it seems an awful lot of money! Plus the monthly ongoing costs aswell. It's so confusing!

Sickoffamilydrama · 01/12/2021 09:50

Loving all the poodles never had one we had an Irish wolfhound when I was a kid he was the best dog ever, huge but sweet natured.
