Please tell me if I should buy this Hush coat?

I need a warm, waterproof coat for endless school runs, watching football matches etc.

I’ve put on weight during the pandemic and everything makes me look frumpy.

I got a nice jacket from Sweaty Betty which has been great in spring/autumn - fully waterproof, but makes me feel a bit less frumpy!

But now the jacket is too cold … is this Hush coat the natural successor?

It needs to be warm, waterproof, and not cool exactly but … not totally middle-aged mum!

Wdyt?

I like it! But I am a 38yo mum... Grin

Cabbageandpeas · 13/11/2021 14:28

But so am I! Grin

It would not be for me.
This will not be the magical defrumping cloak.

It looks in fact, suspiciously like a "frumping coat". guaranteed to make all who wear it look a bit dumpier than they really are.

Howshouldibehave · 13/11/2021 14:30

Is that waterproof-it doesn’t say?

I quite like it-though am not keen on the elasticated bit around the bottom?

Woeismethischristmas · 13/11/2021 14:32

The sleeves on it seem pretty short, look at the way they’ve styled it over the models jumper. Might be ok if you’re on the short side but it might be too long overall then.

And that is my biggest fear!

And you are right, it doesn’t even claim to be waterproof!

Any suggestions for costs which might turn out to be the ‘magical defrumping cloak’ (love that term!)

The outer is cotton, so it won’t be waterproof, and will soak up rain very quickly, becoming cold and heavy!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/11/2021 14:38

Following with interest as looking for similar Grin

😂😂😂 defrumping cloak is amazing. When you find it, please send it my way

madisonbridges · 13/11/2021 14:40

Very few coats are truly waterproof and that doesn't even look that warm. I do like it but it doesn't meet your needs so I think you are wise to widen your search.

Ponks · 13/11/2021 14:43

This probably doesn't meet the "style" criteria but I saw it in shop and liked it.

Look at Protected Species if you're looking for fully waterproof, 'sport luxe' type outerwear. I've got a couple and don't think they're frumpy - although it's all about what you're wearing with them of course!

Pippi1970 · 13/11/2021 14:46

No. The green colour looks cheap and it's not even longer at the back like a proper parka.it quite happily sits in the Cotton Traders catalogue.

otterlybonkers · 13/11/2021 14:50

'frumping coat' is my new favourite thing Grin

ChateauMargaux · 13/11/2021 14:51

I wanted to look at it and add it to my wish list... it's not the one.

problembottom · 13/11/2021 14:52

Well I love it, I saw it in John Lewis the other week and it looked stylish and cosy. But then I’m a 38-year-old mum too haha.

rattlemehearties · 13/11/2021 14:53

No way, it's cotton and not waterproof!

What about a proper outdoor brand like Didriksons?

IvorCutler · 13/11/2021 14:55

Ha, I’m a 37 year old mum and I quite like it. Plus it has my dd’s name 😂

Gonnagetgoing · 13/11/2021 14:57

If you really like it I’m sure you can get a waterproof treatment at the dry cleaner for it.

Ohgodwotnow · 13/11/2021 14:58

It will be neither warm nor waterproof. Cotton outer, polyester filling and lining. May as well wear a shirt

Hetyanni · 13/11/2021 14:59

I like it. Weirdly, I am also a 38 year old mum....

Oh, I love this, but a hood is non-negotiable! Too many soggy school runs, no spare hand for an umbrella!
