Please tell me if I should buy this Hush coat?

I need a warm, waterproof coat for endless school runs, watching football matches etc.

I’ve put on weight during the pandemic and everything makes me look frumpy.

I got a nice jacket from Sweaty Betty which has been great in spring/autumn - fully waterproof, but makes me feel a bit less frumpy!

But now the jacket is too cold … is this Hush coat the natural successor?

It needs to be warm, waterproof, and not cool exactly but … not totally middle-aged mum!

Wdyt?

Totally agree with the above comment. If you're worried about looking frumpy or slightly out of shape then hiding in a shapeless parka will do you no favours and even add the appearance of weight where there isn't any. Speaking as a 40+ mum myself I see a lot of people my age falling into this trap.

Go for good tailoring. You can still get something modern / practical and at that price you can get something decent quality too.

Can you link to good tailoring that would be appropriate for a walk in the rain?

I’ve just got this one from Next. It’s more of a grey than the green colour shown in the picture. I’m a short, slightly round 54 year old and it doesn’t swamp me which is unusual.

Totally waterproof and has a lovely soft lining. I know it’s expensive but I’m on a quality over quantity mission at the moment!

I much prefer the M&S one, the Hush one looks like it would make anyone look about 3 sizes bigger.

I like this, it's properly waterproof, its also in brown if you want to be boring. www.newforestclothing.co.uk/products/ridgeline-ladies-monsoon-arctic-smock?variant=40838860636351

That coat is not a parka.

If you wear that coat, no one will admire it or ask you where you got it from.

And that's the most gutless shade of khaki ever.

Do you work for the Hush marketing team? Grin

Nice choice with the m&s coat OP.

I know you have got ordered a coat already. I have this one. Boden isn't really a s&b favourite but it suits me. I have taken the fur trim off the hood and I haven't needed the fur lining yet. Oh and it has fury lined pockets that feel lovely to put your hands in. I think it is much longer on me than the models so it keeps my legs dry. I'm really liking it so far. I am larger than you but I think the coat is pretty flattering on me. Certainly doesn't make me look frumpy but maybe there are more stylish options out there but it's the best I've found in my size.

Ahh I wouldn’t care about looking ‘frumpy’ such an unconscious mysognistic word anyway (is there a similar for men?!) When it’s cold and wet I just want to be warm and dry, sod the ‘male gaze’

Craghoppers often has slightly more fitted and/or colourful options than other outdoor brands, in case the m&s one doesn't work out.
