Please tell me if I should buy this Hush coat?

I need a warm, waterproof coat for endless school runs, watching football matches etc.

I’ve put on weight during the pandemic and everything makes me look frumpy.

I got a nice jacket from Sweaty Betty which has been great in spring/autumn - fully waterproof, but makes me feel a bit less frumpy!

But now the jacket is too cold … is this Hush coat the natural successor?

It needs to be warm, waterproof, and not cool exactly but … not totally middle-aged mum!

Wdyt?

@Ponks

This probably doesn't meet the "style" criteria but I saw it in shop and liked it. www.marksandspencer.com/feather-and-down-camo-parka-coat/p/clp60517519?color=BLUEMIX
This looks quite fun, I haven’t actually looked at M and S, will have a browse now!

Thanks so much for all the replies! I do like it, but looks like it’s neither waterproof or non-frumpy so I think the search goes on!

There's a brand called Lighthouse that do some warm, waterproof parkas. They're quite a bit cheaper than that hush one too.

Cabbageandpeas · 13/11/2021 15:09

There’s a lot of love in the Reviews for this M and S one:

But is this just the same as the Hush one?! (Half the price at least)

I just purchased that M&S parka OP - having seen it in store and really liked it. Bought it in the green colour which is a lot darker in real life. Have high hopes for it 🤞🤞

Giftwithpurchase · 13/11/2021 15:17

Was also tempted by this coat in the dark green, looks nice with the black contrast zip - much nicer irl. M&S really good this season I think.

Dancingonmoonlight · 13/11/2021 15:54

I like it as a 40+ year old mum. Sadly I know from many Hush purchases that unless you look like the tall 20+ model, the clothes will look frumpy.

SummerSazz · 13/11/2021 15:59

I have the Didrikson Erika parka and it is waterproof and soooooo warm without being too bulky. I don't think it's too frumpy but I'm 48 and don't really care what I look like as long as I'm warm and dry 🤣

TuftyRusty · 13/11/2021 16:31

It doesn’t look that warm! Or waterproof. How about looking at Didriksons, Parka London, Sweaty Betty, Rains, Lululemon. They all do good winter coats which are stylish and practical.

schoolsoutforever · 13/11/2021 18:28

It’s ok. A parka. I preferred the blue camo m and s one that someone posted up thread.

MoltonSilver · 13/11/2021 19:31

Cotton is not warm or waterproof. I don't think this is the one to fill the gap in your wardrobe.

windmill26 · 13/11/2021 22:16

I like it especially as it doesn't have a "fishtail" back.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/11/2021 01:20

My friend got that M&S parka - I went in and tried it on so she could get an idea of size before ordering online. It is really, really nice but absolutely huge. I am a 10 but tend to get a 12 in winter coats so I can wear chunky jumpers. I think the 8 would have been fine if it had been in the shop. My friend is an 18 and got the 16 based on my try-on, but returned it because it was so big on her.

Brewandhoney · 14/11/2021 01:27

Two pages of replies and no one has mentioned Seasalt Janelle or Plant Hunter yet! Must be a record 😂

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 01:43

I don't like it - it's not a nice shade of green and that concealed zip has a Clegg-from-Last-of-The-Summer-Wine vibe. I'm 47 and would consider it too middle-aged for me.

I would go for a good quality wool coat rather than a parka. A well-cut wool coat will hide your lockdown 'padding' much better than a parka. If you're an apple, go for an A-line knee-length coat. Try somewhere like TK Maxx.

Ikeameatballs · 14/11/2021 09:31

I bought a fab coat from Didrikson last year for similar money. It is both warm and waterproof and quite frankly I couldn’t care re dumpy/frumpy. I did get it from the kids section, hence the good price.

www.didriksons.com/en/women/jackets/autumn-winter-jackets/luna-women-s-parka-503907-300 This is a similar adult version.

I think this is mine, though can’t remember it being labelled a “boys” coat.

EdgeOfTheSky · 14/11/2021 10:03

No way would I pay that for a coat that is neither waterproof nor warm and has elasticated sleeves (hopeless over a thick jumper).

Standing at the football pitch being cold and wet in a ‘fashionable’ coat looks silly, IMO.

Seasalt are properly waterproof in the tin cloth models, or go to an outdoor shop, lots of ‘technical’ / performance coats are also flattering. ‘Sporty’ and ‘active’ as looks are a good way to avoid frump, IMO.

Pippi1970 · 14/11/2021 10:06

Seasalt are so frumpy imo. Seasalt and Joules.

Cabbageandpeas · 14/11/2021 10:23

Thanks for all the ideas! I’ve ordered the M and S one - it will probably make me look even more grumpy but worth a punt!

Ha, that was meant to be frumpy not grumpy

Sezane has a couple of quite nice waterproof hooded coats. Expensive though!

Claudethecat · 14/11/2021 10:46

Oh, the parka is not waterproof.

Diywizz · 14/11/2021 10:46

What is your usual style op?

I personally think it can go otherway with this coat. Also, your height and proportions.

TheMagiciansNiece · 14/11/2021 11:05

I think if you want a coat to look less frumpy, it needs to have some style, preferably fitted.

Nothing looks frumpier on an overweight person than a big, baggy sack (which I think this coat is, sorry).
