Anyone else dislike current dress and top fashions?!

I am so not keen on floral, frilly, puffed-sleeve, loose-fitting dresses and tops. I also don't like shirt dresses, especially the loose-fitting ones currently around. I'd like to buy some new clothes and I just don't like the things that shops/websites are full of! Wondering whether anyone else feels the same?! And when clothing retailers will move on??

Having read this thread, its not really surprising that people are complaining about polyester and badly cut clothes when H&M and Zara are constantly mentioned. What else would you expect from these shops? There are lots of smaller retailers now offering brilliant quality clothes, well cut with natural fabrics.
Please specify them.
Thatswhatmamasaid · 23/10/2021 08:38

Depends @NutellaEllaElla. What are you looking for at the moment? I really recommend The Curated for coats and Polene for bags. Yes, they're more expensive than H&M and Zara, but I'm not constantly buying clothes and bags. Also for the fabric quality, the prices are actually reasonable. I take my time to think about what I want and buy every once in a while.

NutellaEllaElla · 23/10/2021 09:00

Good quality plain tops

BeautifulBirds · 23/10/2021 09:02

Placemarking for later, as I hate all the clothes in shops atm.

It’s like living in the Amish community
That made me lol!

I'm sick of all the dresses being made for Amazons.

Gonnagetgoing · 23/10/2021 10:25

@StCharlotte - me too! At 5ft 5 (but look taller apparently I despair of the still Amish dresses etc which are too long for me. Why can’t we have a nicely cut dress etc?

shrugshrug · 23/10/2021 11:19

A good few years ago there was a fashion for girls to wear headscarves tied under the hair at the back.
I thought " Oh, we have a lot more Amish in Ireland than I thought."
🙈
I copped on pretty quickly though.

I don't buy from there. More middle of the range stuff like White stuff, Fat face, Seasalt or John Lewis own make and they are still natural fibres.

@PrincessNutNuts

This thread has made me realise that I have absolutely no idea what is in fashion.

I'm equal parts horrified and thrilled.

I have been looking at things like these but have held off until I do the full winter drag out to see if I need them.

(Apologies to the non-lovers of brown. )

I've just realised this thread is about tops and dresses specifically and I came up with...skirts.

GrinGrinGrin

I'm doing the big winter drag out today. Might even put the winter duvet on the bed.

I don't know why I suddenly fancy brown.

I just realised that if brown eyeliner and bronzer and browny lipsticks suit me then I should have no fear of a brown skirt.

(Not the 90s brown, things like Charlotte Tilbury Stoned Rose.)

OooPourUsACupLove · 23/10/2021 14:57

I have accepted the fact that brown really suits my colouring and gradually learned to love it. So while I see where the brown-haters are coming from, I'm glad to see it back in for while. Just a pity it's in shapes that don't suit me!

Divebar2021 · 23/10/2021 17:51

Don’t think of it as brown but as chocolate, caramel, tan, conker, ginger, mocha - much more appealing.

InRustWeTrust · 23/10/2021 21:11

I really liked the 90s inspired stuff that’s been around for the last two or three years, but see with dread that the aughts are creeping back in.

ambereeree · 23/10/2021 21:53

I really dislike all the dull clothes. It's all so boring.

yes uniqlo!

Coogee · 25/10/2021 11:09

Brown actually suits my colouring, so that isn’t a put off in itself.

Puritan inspired fashion is though.

I have one word for you ladies. (Whisper it) B.O.D.E.N....

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 28/10/2021 06:39

No no no no not Boden!

Even Johnnie himself said it’s designed for women who are past the idea of wanting to look sexy ever Shock

It’s also badly made, and not suitable for hourglass figures

Go away with your Boden whispers HmmGrin

NotImpossible · 28/10/2021 08:36

I have to disagree with those who think brown = bad - I love brown and always have! Sludge suits me Grin And I love balloon sleeves and high waists (I'm another one who had to just skip buying jeans for a good few years during the maximum-arse-crack revealing trend). Flowers though - urgh. And high necks. They do nothing at all for me.

PrincessNutNuts · 28/10/2021 13:25

I agree with this. "Brown" makes me think of a drab bird, or a Brownie uniform. Grin

"Conker" is much more exciting sounding.

Same. It feels like fancy dress.
