Your warmest winter coat?

If your budget was up to £300 for a winter coat with the idea that it would last a decade or so, what would you pick? The warmest one you can think of! Ideally parka length/covers the bum in a dark colour. I get so cold in winter and I'm thinking about just making the big investment in a more expensive but long lasting coat. All about the warmth element here. Thank you all x

I have a mid-thigh length outdoor type coat from Land's End. Bought in the sale several years ago. Regularly -10 here and lower and keeps me very warm! I can't remember its name but it's not their very thickest - maybe mid-range for warmth? I sized up so I can comfortably fit a jumper underneath.

I also have a couple of lands end. One is the squall, very warm and bit aged a bit in 6 years. They're on sale currently I think. I can't recall the name of the other one. It's more like wearing a duvet, very cozy. Birth are around the £200 mark, but they do have sales frequently.

I got a Helly Hansen down coat that's almost knee length and it's the warmest coat ever. I bought it in NYC when it was -20 degrees and it paid for itself on that trip alone.

I have a coat addiction so have many, many coats (from cashmere to down filled to leather trenches to Barbours...and it goes on) but nothing touches the Helly Hansen one for warmth,

a ''long down coat'' from landsend. Threw it out after ten years' service but kind of regret that as it's not as warm as the nf brookly parka I bought last winter. that's warm but the landsend was warmer. I should have gone for the arctic parka

When i had to visit Canada in November some years ago i bought a Regatta padded coat. Cost about 150 and it was 25 degrees. Still have it and brought out here when it gets to anything . Best buy ever.

Regatta coats seem too cheap to be super super warm. One puffer coat looks like another but can a regatta 80 euro coat really rival a landsend for warmth????
I have my doubts but their marketing angle seems quite outdoor, not fashion led.

Are helly hansen coats ranked by coldest (in winter) cities. Ie, belfast is a padded raincoat. Gives some warmth. Would a coat named after a colder in winter city be warmer? Or am i attributing order and logic where there is none and coats were randomly named??

I'd suggest looking at the Scandi brands- Fjallraven, Didriksons, Scandinavian Editions, etc. They do everything in one coat - waterproof, windproof, warm and breathable, covers your butt, with hood, etc. But when you are looking be aware that they also do uninsulated rainwear (which is excellent but not what you're after) so you just need to check the features properly.

My warmest two coats were under £40 at H&M. One is down the other synthetic but impenetrable. I also have a reasonable superdry coat. My more expensive ones are style over substance.

They are very pricey also! But you can often find them on offer, and they are designed to last years and years so end up being good value.

A giant sheepskin coat. Not waterproof but very warm in Scottish winters. I look like the abominable snowman and I love it.

I bought my Regatta Parka last year in the sale (RRP £220), it's so warm and dry. I wore it all last winter and still looks like new.

Also a big fan of Didrikson.Down is great but not very wind- or water-proof. Didriksons thigh length insulated parkas are fab . Mine is on it's 4th year and not showing any signs of deterioration and I wear it a lot. I did remove the faux-fur round the hood, but it's designed to be removable so no issues, I just didn't like soggy fur in my face on rainy days!

A down inner layer and waterproof outer can work well I think - eg this sort of thing which I found for another coat thread a while ago (I don't have this one so can't confirm anything about the brand though sorry but I think the concept is good!)
