where can I find decently bohemian clothes?!

I don't mean the hippy look exactly, it is difficult to describe, but I will try!

Simple colours, good fabrics, flowing designs, but not architectural or scandi (definitely not Cos or Arket and not oversized like Toast) Nothing bulky. It isn't something on the regular high street but it is not loud like Gudrun either.

Think antique dealer in a nineties episode of Midsomer Murders. It's neither hippy or gothic but something elegantly in between. It isn't work focused either, so lovely and comfy with unfussy lines.

It is not conservative, but the colours will be muted...cashmere scarf, wrap, long skirt, good boots, flowing coat, some velvet maybe.....at the risk of sounding like a complete arse I would describe it as perhaps bohemian academic, classical music, middle/upper middle, soft, long wavy hair and perhaps rounded glasses, wool coat almost touching floor, shawl, sort of autumnal spires of Oxford or semi rural.
It isn't eccentric exactly but it is not 'on trend'.

Everywhere I look I just find trendy floral-polyester-overpriced shite. Even brands that used to cater to this aesthetic are pretty much selling thin, unlined tat for over £100 now. I don't mind spending but never do as I can't find anything I like.

Poetry (sleek cashmere tunics) and Plumo (long velour gown) are the closest I can find but neither quite fit the bill.

How would you describe this look and where could I search?

Aspiga, Roman and Daughters of India have some lovely clothes, spendy but gorgeous

StridTheKiller · 02/01/2023 04:13

Ebay. My wardrobe is full of natural fibre items similar to what you describe. I just search 'silk/wool size 12' or similar. Totally underrated on here butca real treasure trove of bargains.

Peruvian Connection. Not cheap so I often wait for the sales.

I realise this is an old thread but posting anyway. You might like East clothing,
Sustainable fabrics, good quality ethical and long lasting, but I bulk buy tops there in the 70 percent sale because I could never afford it otherwise. I find I wear the tops all the time. Don't buy anything else, just cheap basic trousers from M and S to compliment flowy top. But you have to pounce when they are at 70 percent off. Used to buy boho monsoon from ebay but realised because you can't return things I was actually getting more misses than hits with purchases from there plus it takes ages to scroll through it all. So now I just bulk buy drastically reduced and wear them till they have holes in because I love them so much. With ebay I often didn't love it and it ended up in the wardrobe. But even at 50 percent off I couldn't afford East otherwise. It's all about the timing when they get to 70 percent!!

Apologies if someone has already suggested this - have a look at the Dark Academia thread currently very active on S&B, you might get some useful ideas there. Sorry I’m not very good at linking !

I have nothing to contribuye style wise but thank you to whoever resurrected this thread and reminded me how much I used to love midsomer murders! Currently laid up in bed with a heavy cold and a mm binge is exactly what I need Grin

Two (now sadly defunct) labels have come to mind that might fit this aesthetic: Joyce Ridings and Press & Bastyan. Worth a look on your preferred vintage clothing app.

LoreleiG · 30/10/2023 15:03

I think I know exactly what this style is - my late 80s/early 90s youngish music/English teachers used to wear it. I do suspect Laura Ashley played a part in their wardrobes.
