Does anyone else find Louboutins a bit tacky now?

Just that really. I have several pairs but most stay locked in a box - I feel a bit cringe wearing them these days.

A bit too in your face and 'look at me' plus too common.

Do you/would you still wear them?

I remember being in the women’s loos on a hen do about 5 years ago, overhearing 2 girls chatting about how they used red nail varnish on the soles of some Zara shoes to make them look like Louboutins and realising I would have to retire mine Sad

I wore a pair once more to a wedding because they were the only nude pumps I had but I think they’ll be languishing at the bottom of my wardrobe for many years to come

@LaBellina

Vintage Burberry raincoat is fine, it’s this kind of thing people are talking about:

I think red soles are tacky and I'm not keen on pointy heels at all any more either, they all seem a bit dated now IMO.

VanCleefArpels · 30/09/2021 19:15

The charity shop I volunteer in recently received a pair to sell - we are asking £100. Comparing what you might get to the purchase price is silly. You’ve lost the £500 long ago. £100 per pair now is essentially free money!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 30/09/2021 19:34

I think it depends on which ones you have. I have always thought the platform ones were tacky, but the Pigalles and similar are pretty classic styles.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 30/09/2021 20:31

I do think a certain demographic jumped on them and made them tacky and trashy. They've very much had their day. I'd get them sold if there's any market left for them and cut your losses.

@LaBellina
When people say 'tacky' they mean heavily pirated/worn by the working classes (shock horror) Brands like Burberry and LV are classic and very expensive. But folk dressed head to toe in knock offs will look 'tacky' or aspirational. It's more about mocking the desire for designer gear from the part of the population that can't afford it and who tend to wear the most ostentatious examples of a brand to highlight it.

Burberry trenches will always be an understated classic.

Loboutins are 500 quid a pop and despite what the OP says will never be worn by lots of people (currently for fashion as well as financial reasons)

It's just that it's unbearable for some people to imagine that there's a risk someone may confuse their genuine louboutins with a pair of nail varnished Zara knock offs.

Case in point.

Wonder who the 'certain demographic is'?

Chewbecca · 30/09/2021 20:48

I agree OP.

I have a beautiful pair of sky high, sparkly jimmy choo sandals. I don’t go anywhere it’s appropriate to wear them anymore and if I did, I would want to wear something easier to walk in.

Sad as I do love them.

TwinsandTrifle · 30/09/2021 21:03

Yep, way too obvious. Like wearing a lot of blingy jewelry, or an obvious it bag. Bit mid-noughties/Sex and the City.

Yep. I've got several pairs I'll never wear again

The number of fakes about mean red soles are everywhere. And that "these are a bit special" feeling that they had originally is completely diluted. I don't think they've dated well either. I'd feel daft in mine now. Shame. Used to be real wow shoes back in the day.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 30/09/2021 21:23

I see those Fairfax & Favor boots everywhere now. Even Joules sell them on their website. I used to quite fancy a pair but I think they’re a bit chavvy now.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/09/2021 21:29

@LookieLikie

So grateful for the trainers and dresses look that if popular now amongst young girls. Love that my girls won’t feel pressured to put on these ridiculous shoes for a night iut when the boys can be all comfortable - tantamount to Foot bindingHmm
Love a bit of hyperbole on a heels thread.
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/09/2021 21:32

OP, that level of glamour isn't in fashion right now. Loose silhouettes, flatter heels are hot. But heels will return so maybe put the shoes up on a high shelf and re-visit them in 5 years or so. It's always worthwhile storing some quality items because it's all cyclical.

TheSplendidAngharad · 30/09/2021 21:42

Is this a thread designed to make people who own them feel a bit shit? Or a stealth brag? I honestly can’t tell.

If you don’t like them, then get rid OP. Bloody love mine still.

GeidiPrimes · 30/09/2021 21:49

Chavvy! Tacky! Common! Peak mumsnet. Love it Grin

postingfortraffichere · 30/09/2021 21:51

@TheSplendidAngharad I own them too so I'm not trying to be goady at all!

Just genuinely starting conversation lol.

Viviennemary · 30/09/2021 21:54

They are pretty awful. Bit like the Emperors new clothes I suppose They're not very classy are they. When would you even wear them.

GeidiPrimes · 30/09/2021 22:17

I think women have had enough of heels in general. For now at least.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 30/09/2021 22:24

It depends, I think the very high or obviously fashion ones are tacky now.
I have a pair of classic nude pumps in a mid/high heel as I can’t wear anything above a certain height. I don’t think those will date.

If you want to buy or sell Louboutins check out Love Luxe. They have loads.

Babochan88 · 30/09/2021 22:40

Unfortunately they have become a little “common”. Someone I know said they were what poor people wear to look rich. I don’t agree with that, but I do see where you’re coming from OP

namechanged221 · 01/10/2021 07:20

I don't know what they were so googled them.... they're like spikes? How could you even walk 5 steps? Don't like that look at all. Very 'porn star'

MoltonSilver · 01/10/2021 07:35

After covid all high heels look like a slightly ridiculous throwback to another time. Anything with very obvious branding, even more so.

beautifullymad · 01/10/2021 07:55

If you want a high heeled sexy look in comfort try Carvela. Supremely comfortable and designed to be worn. I can manage about 5+ hours without hobbling! But it's the only brand I can wear in comfort. Louboutin heels hurt with nasty pinch points.

xsquared · 01/10/2021 18:08

How do you keep them in good condition? Surely the soles scuff and lose their redness after a couple of wears, so they will look tacky over time anyway.
