Does anyone else find Louboutins a bit tacky now?

Just that really. I have several pairs but most stay locked in a box - I feel a bit cringe wearing them these days.

A bit too in your face and 'look at me' plus too common.

Do you/would you still wear them?

@xsquared

How do you keep them in good condition? Surely the soles scuff and lose their redness after a couple of wears, so they will look tacky over time anyway.
The soles do lose their red. It’s a sort of vinyl coating on top of the leather sole so it starts scraping off as soon as you walk, but it’s accepted as a sign of real ones, rather than having stuck red soles onto non-louboutins But the red under the arch stays put, and because they are patent, they just need a wipe with the dust bag to stay looking nice

I have always found them tacky tbh

Vintage Burberry raincoat is fine, it’s this kind of thing people are talking about:[/quote]
Oh Lord, that IS tacky. Completely agree!

When people say 'tacky' they mean heavily pirated/worn by the working classes (shock horror) Brands like Burberry and LV are classic and very expensive. But folk dressed head to toe in knock offs will look 'tacky' or aspirational. It's more about mocking the desire for designer gear from the part of the population that can't afford it and who tend to wear the most ostentatious examples of a brand to highlight it.

Burberry trenches will always be an understated classic.

Loboutins are 500 quid a pop and despite what the OP says will never be worn by lots of people (currently for fashion as well as financial reasons)

It's just that it's unbearable for some people to imagine that there's a risk someone may confuse their genuine louboutins with a pair of nail varnished Zara knock offs.

Thanks @WaltzingBetty.

Yes I understand where it’s coming from. Thanks to the posters that have reassured me that it’s still ok / not tacky to wear my trench coat Grin

I don’t think I’d wear heels again, tbh. They seem very dated right now.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 02/10/2021 09:56

Some places offer a resoling service

Handsnotwands · 02/10/2021 10:12

I’d keep them. I’ve got a wardrobe full of expensive but no longer fashionable bags and shoes. They’ll come around again and my daughter will love having authentic vintage shizzle

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 02/10/2021 10:21

I've always found them a bit 'look at me' and tacky for that reason to be honest.

Supersimkin2 · 02/10/2021 14:29

They are very look-at-me, which would normally put one off, but they are beautifully cut and perform reliable magic on a body.

I’d keep them for now cos pumps like the Pigalle just won’t ever look wrong. But wear trainers if you don’t want to look old right now.

sansucre · 02/10/2021 15:00

Yes, very much déclassé. However, and to be fair, although I do wear high heels, I never wore Louboutin's mostly because of the red sole - I hate in your face branding. Also, they're not the most comfortable of shoe, and other designers such as Blahnik and Aquazzura are.
