How many pairs of trainers is too many?

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 22/09/2021 16:31

Just looking at the Adidas Superstars thread and a few people refer to having “loads of pairs”. I feel guilty if I have more than one category of shoe or trainer at any one time but then that means that when you need a replacement you are panic buying something that is meant to be versatile and then wearing them to death… repeat cycle.
If you are a regular trainer wearer how many pairs do you own? If you see something that “pops” aesthetically fo you justify buying it knowing that the style will be gone in a few weeks or months?

1 x Stan Smiths
1 x navy New Balance
1 x burgundy New Balance
1 x grey Adidas Gazelles
1 x bright green Adidas (can’t remember which)
1 x navy metallic Converse
1 x silver Converse

Have my eye on khaki New Balance and another pair of Gazelles. Luckily Vejas don’t really suit my feet …

So do I. I have a pair of Converse lookalikes, a pair of Nike trainers for general use, and a pair of Skechers walking shoes. That's plenty for me. I also have various other pairs of shoes, boots and sandals. I don't have room for 11 pairs of trainers.

Viviennemary · 22/09/2021 22:04

One pair is too many. I have one pair. Ghastly ugly clumsy things.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/09/2021 22:06

Yes to buying kids’ trainers - I’m a 4 and mine are all “junior”.

RogueV · 22/09/2021 22:09

2 X adidas superstars
1 AF1
1 Black Vans
1 Puma runners
1 casual adidas

Not that bad actually!

NigellaSeed · 22/09/2021 22:10

Kids shoes it is then, Duly noted!

I have 1 Reebok
3 converse,

Hmmm

Tbh I was more of a big hitter on the lipstick thread last week 😃

Howdidthathappen1 · 22/09/2021 22:26

Oh lordy I just counted
2 pairs velvet Nike (Blazer and internationalist)
1 x pink blazers
1 x hoff
2 x converse
1 x vans
1 x Adidas
1 x Ash
1 x nike for gym
1 x knackered new balance for dog walking

Seems a lot but I only really wear trainers unless depths of winter and they all go with different outfits. I've got my eye on more hoff trainers - I love them and if I could find any I would get more velvet trainers in a heartbeat- they always get positively commented on and are the perfect mix of trainer/ shoe. Both pairs are 5 years old and still in good nick

dementedma · 22/09/2021 22:32

2 pairs I think, but no idea what brands they are.

Sooverthemill · 22/09/2021 22:38

Room as in space or as in your heart? I like trainers. I spend my money on stuff I like. I recognise I don’t ‘need’ them but as a kid I wore hand me downs and now I have enough money to but nice things

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 22/09/2021 22:41

3 pairs that I wear on rotation for going out and about, (1 Superga, 1 Nike blazer, 1 new balance), 2 further pairs that have retired from public life and are now for dog walking only. (However I wear the same size as Dd1 which gives me access to her different coloured Nike Blazers, her Air Force 1's and her Air Max-I've Been waiting for her feet to grow for a while-this was in the master plan!)

BatonRouge · 22/09/2021 22:42

Plus 30 pairs here. I am self confessed 'sneaker-head' and own numerous Air Max 1's, 90's. 95's, 98's, Flyknits, Vapourmax, Asics Gel Lyte, Saucony, Vans, NBs, Reebok classics, Reebok workout, Adidas Ultra boast......I admit getting a buzz from buying but have pulled this back due of sustainability reasons mostly. Plus this array is whelming when deciding what to wear on foot!

megletthesecond · 22/09/2021 22:42

You can't have too many if you look after them.
When I'm old I want an MTV Cribs style trainer room in my house.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 22/09/2021 22:45

I started the superstars thread Smile. I have one pair for exercise, 2 converse high tops, 2 converse low tops.

Laufeythejust · 22/09/2021 22:56

I have way too many pairs! Probably about 15? I work out a lot though so about 10 of them are for the gym and running.

westcountryboy · 22/09/2021 23:03

I'm trying to work out how many I have as I can't be arsed to go and count them.

I think I've got about 16 converse and superga then one Nike Air and one Adidas.

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/09/2021 23:19

I have 11 pairs as well, strangely! 2 of them are nearly 8 years old though (Nike Pegasus and internationalist), bought when my son was a newborn! I have air max as well, which must be 5 years old. Then another pair of Nike, 3 adidas, 2 new balance and 2 veja. I still wear them all and they’re all in decent condition give the rotation! I love trainers. I don’t drive so I compare my shoes to putting decent tyres on a car.

Wegobshite · 23/09/2021 00:43

I have adidas Niza in both black
& white
adidas Superstar
ASICS x 3pairs in white black and pink multi
Nike airforce 1 in both black and white
Veja in canpo chrome
3 pairs of old Nike running trainers
And probably a few more pairs somewhere
I also did a big clear out and gave my neice 4-5 pairs that I had only worn once or twice

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 23/09/2021 08:24

Sounds like there are three categories of posters:

  1. Those who’s trainer collection is a big part of their overall style
  2. Those who think ‘stylish trainers’ is an oxymoron
  3. And those who wear them for function, with @SomethingToldTheWildGeese the stand out… I feel there is a whole other fascinating thread about your collection!!

Thank you to group one for enabling my shopping habit 😉 if anyone is interested it was these that started my dilemma… www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,20/3764916115?referer=carousel

I'd say between 40 and 50. Which is nothing compared to my husband who has at least 200. But trainers are this thing. Which is mainly why I have so many because he buys me mine! We have a trainer room in the house!

VavavoomHenry · 23/09/2021 08:42

RampantIvy · 23/09/2021 12:25

This thread is a revelation to me. I fall under category 3, and wear trainers in cooler weather because they are comfortable and practical.

I don't view them as a fashion accessory, and only wear them with jeans, so I have one colour - grey, that go with both black and blue jeans. I also own various pairs of shoes, boots and sandals.

I do sound dull don't I Grin

Lovemusic33 · 23/09/2021 12:51

I have a pair of Vans, Adidas court shoes and Adidas gym shoes. I would love some AF1’s (shadows).

gunnersgold · 23/09/2021 13:05

I have about 20 pairs ..

Sooverthemill · 23/09/2021 13:16

@RampantIvy there are no rules. You seem to have a system that works for you!
