With short black skirt and hoodie, or a short black dress.

OP posts:

Sounds like those boots weren’t made for walking.

Hoppinggreen · 21/09/2021 15:32

@Divebar2021

With footless tights yes!!! Although it begs the question why you bought boots that are not comfortable to walk in?
Well there’s comfortable to walk in then there’s spending most of the day walking round London comfortable. Most of my shoes/boots are fine but not THAT “comfortable”
SusannaM · 21/09/2021 17:46

My 16yr old does, when I gently queried it, she told me I was weird. Tbf she's a far more grown up and stylish dresser than I am, so I'm quite surprised to be on the side of the majority hereGrin

CovidCorvid · 21/09/2021 17:49

If you google images for black tights white trainers you get photos of trendy youngsters wearing this combo.

Well I would to walk around London, but depends what is happening in the 3 venues you're going to. It's not a good look I don't think.

But can't you wear a midi dress and bare legs or cropped trousers instead? I'm not in opaque tights yet and am not planning to be any time soon.

randombear · 21/09/2021 17:50

This weekend is looking like bare legs weather so you should be ok OP

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 17:51

Jesus, is that what’s “trendy” these days? I’m glad I’m not young.

bluejelly · 21/09/2021 17:52

It's warm in London today. I'm wearing midi length skirt, bare legs and white trainers. Feels about right for the weather/time of year. Too warm for tights

Itsnotdeep · 21/09/2021 17:52

Oh it's this evening! It's really warm - I'd ditch the tights definitely.

WimpoleHat · 21/09/2021 17:52

@CovidCorvid I think that model would look fantastic in anything, to be honest. I’m just imagining myself in the self same get up….😂

pickingdaisies · 21/09/2021 17:57

Stick the tights in your bag in case you need them - but if you're trekking all over London you need to wear the trainers. Also if you wear them, I don't think it's going to cause massive disturbance to onlookers.

But if you click on that image it’s from an article written three years ago.
KimikosNightmare · 21/09/2021 22:38

@TwooThirty

Depends how much you care about being ‘current’ maybe? A few years ago it was a thing.

It can look a bit like you’re on a commute and you’ll change into different shoes when you get into the office. But then that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

That, very unexpectedly, looks much better than I thought it would. I loathe trainers but that combination looks ok. Possibly because her suit and coat are well tailored and the eye is drawn to them rather than the trainers.

Now that one is awful.
peachgreen · 21/09/2021 22:43

I quite like it as a look but have never been brave enough to wear it myself!

Spottyegg · 21/09/2021 23:02

@CovidCorvid I actually really like that - looks good to me! But yeah, I think it’s too early for opaques in London esp if you are walking anywhere.

Pippapet · 21/09/2021 23:51

No. It looks all kinds of wrong.

All black trainers or mostly black are probably ok, depending on other criteria ie the rest of the outfit should have a sports luxe (hate the word "luxe" but you know what I mean!) vibe. It's hard look to pull off without looking just badly dressed. It'd be like wearing brogues with a tracksuit. Possible for 1%, ie the very fashionable, but not possible for the other 99% of us...

ItsSunnyOutside · 22/09/2021 11:47

A no from me. But I dislike tights immensely.

ParishSpinster · 22/09/2021 11:52

I was going to say that it sounds fine!

My go to alternative would be bright coloured tights.

(I may not be as stylish as I thought I was.)

SwimmingOnEggshells · 22/09/2021 12:54

Grin @EllieSattler haha, exactly what I was thinking. It's a commuter look, no sorry.

SprayedWithDettol · 22/09/2021 13:02

I think the look in the second picture is really nice. I would wear that.

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 22/09/2021 13:06

I'd wear either of the looks posted on here tbh. I'm also just outside London and noticed a pp said she wouldn't bay an eyelid. Think it's probably more normalised here because of the commuter thing! I would only change out of commuting shoes if I absolutely had to.

I've also seen a lot of suits with trainers, or did pre covid. Nobody wears suits at the minute!

Pippapet · 22/09/2021 14:27

However, I've always thought it odd that you could wear black ankle length leggings and white trainers, but not black thick tights and white trainers.

Black leggings and white trainers (or any trainers) instantly say "sporty" whereas black thick tights and trainers look so mismatched. It's not to do with the black and white. The texture says something as well. I guess it'd be like wearing an elaborate evening dress/ball gown out of denim or cotton. The style might be right but the fabric choice also makes a statement.

"noticed that a Londoner pp said that she wouldn't bat an eyelid at the op's outfit idea"

Meant to say^^

Op, what did you wear in the end?
