Would you wear this to an autumn wedding?

I'm going to a wedding at the end of October, still got a bit of baby weight to lose so my usual go-to's are a bit snug Blush plus wedding is in the Highlands so it might be quite chilly!

What do you think of this for a wedding guest dress? I tried it on and it was very flattering, but I'm swithering about how to style it...

It looks very casual for a wedding. I guess it depends what sort of wedding it is.

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 20/09/2021 19:41

I think it's a bit dowdy for a wedding tbh. But maybe with the right shoes etc? Did you take a pic when you tried it on?

MarciaDidia · 20/09/2021 19:42

I think it's lovely.

WeCanBeHeronsJustForOneDay · 20/09/2021 19:44

Sorry I think it’s a bit boring/office-y for a wedding if I’m honest. Unless you can really lift it with accessories?

RunningStrong · 20/09/2021 19:44

I would but I never buy a wedding specific outfit that I'll only wear once and this looks very wearable for after.

RogueV · 20/09/2021 19:44

I really like it.
Belt, decent shoes and jewellery 👌

buckeejit · 20/09/2021 19:47

Oh yes. I love it.

SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 19:49

It's a lot more flattering on than in the pictures, but I am worried about it being a bit drab, so I'm trying to figure out of it's possible to bling it up a bit without a clash of styles! I'll be running around after a toddler so no skyscraper heels alas.

@OnceMoreOnToTheBeach I wish I had thought to take a photo 🤦🏼‍♀️ between baby and covid it was my first time shopping in person since about mid-2019 and I'm a bit out of practice Grin

I love the dress. You’d really have to dress it up for a wedding but with make up, hair, heels I’m sure it’ll look fab!

Neither do / would I, but I would pick something in my wardrobe which was appropriate. I personally don't think that dress is, but, as I say, with the right accessories.
HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 20/09/2021 19:51

Honestly, it does have shades of middle aged librarian. You can picture Miss Marple wearing it on a night out…..

SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 19:54

Middle aged librarian isn't far off my reality Grin

I would wear for a wedding with Gold ankle boots, gold choker necklace and a low up do. I like it! And second that I wouldn't buy something I couldn't get multiple usage of.

maffhew · 20/09/2021 19:56

Toast charge extortionate prices for horrible sack dowdy dresses. It's a no from me. I wouldn't wear that to put the bins out let alone a wedding.

SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 19:57

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach so if forced, for, y'know, a bet or something, how would you settle/accessorise it?

OP posts:
SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 19:58

Well I think we can certainly say it's polarising!

SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 19:59

Fuck me I wish there was an edit button! Settle = style 🙄

Yes I would wear it it's gorgeous. I'm the same I hate the thought of outfits that are then stuck in a wardrobe as they are too dressy to wear so I'd say go for it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/09/2021 20:03

I’m so sorry SpikeDearheart, because I do try to see the positive.

Really don’t like it though. It looks like something Vera would wear.

Please don’t make the mistake of thinking that big and baggy is flattering, because it isn’t (though neither is a size too small, obviously.)

Really, is just focus on what you would wear without the remaining baby weight and buy that, just ever so slightly looser than you normally would, so it skims rather than clings. Far more flattering and you’ll feel much more like you: knock on effect, happier and more relaxed.

Have you looked at Anthropologie and & Other Stories?

How about this:

How much? I'd wear it with crocs and a pair of novelty disguise glasses for the right price Wink?

I'd probably style it with a nod to it looking quite 'vintage'; maybe pointed sling backs with a small block heel, layer some necklaces over each other to brighten it up a bit and a big, soft bag I think.

Colours...I'd probably stick with neutrals tbh. I don't think that dress would look good with bright colours.

OverByYer · 20/09/2021 20:08

I like it but maybe a bit too casual for a wedding. I however haven’t been to a wedding for years so they may be a bit more relaxed these days.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 20/09/2021 20:09

And last suggestion - these? www.molbythelabel.com/shop

Three0fivepointfour · 20/09/2021 20:09

Well, I like it but maybe I’m their target market.

I see purple, but I wonder if that’s a possibility. Either acid or Liberty grungy colours. I’d probably get some Bensimon pumps to change into. Although you could wear these all day m.shein.co.uk/Minimalist-Ankle-Strap-Flats-p-3264507-cat-1881.html?url_from=ukadplasW210604620756777EUR38&gclid=CjwKCAjw4qCKBhAVEiwAkTYsPHjInk-nay3v8CC81B5Kg94GKSgpl4uswjaDVZeNJnV0qeO-wghyaRoCjUUQAvD_BwE&ref=www&rep=dir&ret=m

I like these bright bags but maybe they’re too expensive?
