Thanks royal style fans for the thread title!
We need banquets, some diplomatic visits and more weddings. Oh and more of gorgeous Charles (you know the one I mean!)

Another day, another royal-ish wedding…

Grand Duke George Romanov, who has a good claim to be considered the heir to Russian throne apparently (if it still existed of course, having been defunct for more than a century now Hmm ) has married his long term girlfriend Rebecca Bettarini in St Petersburg. She worn a new Chaumet tiara - it looks a bit beauty-pageant to me, but worked well with her unadorned dress. Her dress had the Romanov family crest embroidered in gold on the train though!

Oh I've heard of this "grand duke". Apparently he and his mother hope for the restoration of the monarchy in Russia! I think his rival for the "throne" might be the tall skinny "duke" who got married a few weeks ago?

Tinitiny · 01/10/2021 13:19

A new tiara of the month! Very crown-like and with a big huge rock in it 😍

Thanks Serenster. Interesting seeing all these Romanovs coming out of the woodwork. I bet the Bolshevik leaders are spinning in their graves! I agree with you about that tiara - very flimsy looking, and a bit Claire's Accessories.

The Astor Sancy tiara, on the other hand, is amazing. It's not my all time favourite, but you can't deny that it's impressive, especially the central diamond. Here's a view from the front.

I was just thinking it looked like something from Claire’s (that my DD4 would wear with wellies to the park 🙈)

Lost y'all for a bit. So glad to have caught up with the thread. Crown

I do find it a bit amusing that so many of these members of former RFs cling to their titles. I have gone down several Youtube rabbit holes with videos about "who would be the King of Where-ever if Whatever had not happened, etc.

KillingMeDeftly · 01/10/2021 15:23

Ah, Princess Beatrice has named her daughter Sienna Elizabeth.

Eaumyword · 01/10/2021 15:31

Nice name.

RomainingCalm · 01/10/2021 16:12

That's a lovely name.

HMQ and PC have been planting a tree at Balmoral with some of the local school children.

Hello, Seneca glad you're back with us!

Thanks, Serenster. I do agree with everyone about the tiara, though!
Thanks MoP and Tinitiny. That is a cracker of a tiara. Any claimants?
I'm afraid I can't get on board with Sienna, as that's the name of one of the worst girls I teach! I see that name and I see her mardy face!

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 01/10/2021 17:02

I'm not too keen on Sienna either Maireas, though obviously not for the same reasons. Incidentally, isn't mardy a great word!

HMQ and PC looking very country living there! As I suppose they are.

KillingMeDeftly · 01/10/2021 17:07

Isn't HM's eldest GGC Savannah? That might get confusing!

Also, I think a minor royal has a Senna, which always reminds me of the laxative.

Maireas · 01/10/2021 17:17

Sienna is a popular name where I teach, like Miley, Lexi, Lula and Tallulah.
I've never taught a boy called August, though!

Maireas · 01/10/2021 17:18

Senna is the daughter of Lady Davina Windsor by her ex husband who was Maori, so that must be the origin. Her son is Tane.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/10/2021 17:29

@Maireas I know that names & naughty feeling! Hopefully the next Sienna you teach will be the most loveliest child ever or maybe the one you have will grow into a lovely girl.

Pretty name Sienna Elizabeth.
Though I do wonder what HMQ privately thinks to all these non traditional royal names considering she allegedly vetoed Bea being called Annabelle as she thought it was too yuppy.
Or maybe now HMQ is in her 90s she may have got a bit less rigid in her thinking as my late Nan certainly mellowed in her 90s as she said once you get to 80 nothing ever surprises or shocks you anymore.

KillingMeDeftly · 01/10/2021 18:01

Does HMQ get right of veto for GGC?

BeaLola · 01/10/2021 18:02

My friends lovely GD is called Sienna & is a sweetheart ( but at only 6 'o this hasn't developed the mardy face..... yet Grin)

6 months !
KillingMeDeftly · 01/10/2021 18:04

I have to say the name Beatrice has aged better than Annabelle so maybe HMQ was onto something!

More likely to be a F1 fan. Wink Senna isn't Maori, since they don't use that letter (it becomes H, usually).

Sienna Elizabeth is a lovely name.

HMQ and PC look like they're about to visit Rivendell in that photo.

NotMiranda · 01/10/2021 20:01

I would imagine that now that the line of succession is secured with the impeccably traditional George, Charlotte and (maybe slightly less so) Louis, HMQ is rather less bovvered.

Maireas · 01/10/2021 20:07

Interesting, @GrouchyKiwi, Senna has a Maori middle name, and what with her brother, I just assumed. I like the F1 idea, though!

OP posts:
GrouchyKiwi · 01/10/2021 20:13

Maireas Kowhai is cute for a middle name. Tane Mahuta is quite a name to live up to! I didn't know much about Lady Davina or her family; interesting to see that her ex-husband is Witi Ihimaera's nephew! (If you've not seen or read Whale Rider it is wonderful.)
